Jun 12, 2010I was wondering if there was a way to use the iPhone's audio jack as an external jack for the macbook pro via USB or so, as i own the 13 inch model, that only offers one jack.
I want to use garage band just trying out a bit and i'd need an extra jack for the headphones, otherwise the microphone will record what's played over the internal speakers.
EDIT: I forgot to say that I already tried things like AirPhones, meaning wireless stream to iphone. But there's unfortunately few moments of latency, so i hardly can use it for recording.

Apr 16, 2012I've had an iphone 4 for 2 years, always syncing contacts with outlook on my old PC. Everything worked fine until icloud; I then found that any new contacts weren't syncing to outlook, I'm assuming because the phone was only syncing to icloud? No matter, decided not to worry as I wanted to buy a mac, having worked with them recently.
So my issue now is (very similar to before) that I can't sync my contacts from my iphone to my mac, again because it insists the phone is backing up to icloud. I tried this morning; it prompted me that the phone was 'on' icloud and therefore not syncing with mac etc; I checked the box to sync contacts, hit apply and merge in the hopes I could get my contacts from my phone onto the mac. Instead it's created another phone book on my iphone with just the three contacts that were on the mac?!
Now when I go to contacts on my iphone it has three groups: All contacts, all on my iphone and all icloud. The first and last have all my contacts in; the all on my iphone has zero. I know the transition to something new isn't always easy, but I'm now really confused.The Mac is on Snow Leopard, and my understanding of browsing the forums is that only lion will work with icloud. I haven't bought any software yet, so I'm not concerned about compatibilty if I upgrade. I AM however concerned as to how icloud will work if I do upgrade?
Will it use the iMac or the iphone as the 'senior' device?
If it uses the mac will I lose all my contacts?
With cloud do I not need to backup my iphone?
What's the difference between backup, sync and icloud?

May 20, 2012I have had recurrent kernel panic attacks on my Macbook pro runnig 10.4.7. This seems to be OK once rebooted in safe mode but I can find the underlying software/hardware problem. The logs are not helping me with this issue.Â
Anyone have any suggestions. I am thinking of backing up all my files and erasing hard drive and starting with reloading all my applications and then files.The computer is only useable in safe mode at present.

Jun 5, 2014I setup my new iMac (purchased 14 May 2014) with a whole bunch of FaceTime contacts.  These are there in my FaceTime pane. I bought an iPadAir last week and also have an iPhone. On both these Apple devices I also entered some FaceTime contact data, tried both out and they worked just fine; that is they talked to each other and other people. As this information was slightly different on all three devices, I wanted them to automatically follow what I have on my iMac, so I plugged them both in to the iMac. I then (separately) did a Sync of both devices from iTunes, and all the data for FaceTime in both cases instead of being updated and streamlined/synchronized with my iMac has been wiped. automatically rather than have to enter and re-enter all the data again and again each time I do a Sync.Â
Note: when I did the Sync the music I added today went where it should, so there's no problem with connections, etc. On the Info page I've clicked on "Sync Contacts" which would seem to be what was necessary. Now when I try to Sync either of these devices, the Sync process goes on and on and never stops. I can't see any way of stopping it other than doing a Force Quit of iTunes - which is pretty useless as I will obviously want to Sync these and my other Apple devices again in the future. As a result of this neither of these devices will now Sync with my iMac, other than locking themselves into a cintinuous loop. As I've just bought both the iMac and the iPadAir I could contact Apple direct, but I thought I'd try here first.

Apr 12, 2012Yesterday, Safari began crashing every 45 minutes. I get a message that says Safari quit unexpectedly because of a plug-in called .MasterofDefense.tmp. I used finder to search my computer, and I cannot find this file.  PlugIn Path: /Users/<myname>/Library/Application Support/.MasterofDefense.tmpPlugIn Identifier: .MasterofDefense.tmpPlugIn Version:   ??? (???) The file is NOT in that location mentioned in the crash log. According to web searches, MasterofDefense is some game, but I have never installed any games on my machine.Â

Oct 6, 2010I used Macthe Ripper to rip my sons chuggington dvd to my macbook pro, then i used handbrake to convert it, i managed to copy the converted file to my itunes library, but when i symc my iphone 3gs, it says it won't copy the file because it can't be played on my iphone.Several forums mention using the iphone/ipod touch preset when converting in Hnadbrake, now i may be a numpty, but i cant find this preset anywhere?! The closest thing i can see is an apple button/setting.when i selected apple and told it to play again, it said it would overwrite the prev converted verison. It took hours to convert the first time, if I do this, will it really work? Or will I waste another 3 hours?!

Jun 27, 2012I unfortunately lost my whole itunes library that was on an external hard drive. I was able to download my music and apps stored in icloud. Apr 18, 201010.5.8, 2.16 Core 2 Duo, 2 gb, Itunes 9.0.2 (25), iPhone version 3.0 on a 3G virgin (not unlocked/broken) I can't get my Iphone to sync or charge. I've uninstalled & reinstalled itunes several times, trashing the preferences and killing the itunes helper. I've reset the pram. I've rebooted multiple times with the iphone connected. I downgraded from itunes 9.1 and tried it all again but made no difference. The computer doesn't see it. The usb ports work with other hardware. The sync cable charges fine with the wall outlet adapter. Can't think of what else to do. Please don't make me go buy a blackberry. It will bring a curse upon my household and my children's children.

Oct 26, 2009I have an Iphone and I have a macbook pro. Now, I used to have at my work Hosted Exchange were all my contacts were on. Now, lost my job and now I want to delete the workaccount (mail). When I do that, my Iphone erases all my contacts on my iphone, which i don't want of course.
Now, what i did, I have tagged all the boxes in entourage to sync with Icall, etc. BUT when i do a sync from Itunes, it whipes away all my contacts again, because it probably takes it from the empty folders. So that's a big issue. I'm not able to get all my contacts into Entourage or I call. Normally when you put the cable in, it should sync everything from the iphone to your mac right? Well it doesn't. It doesn't even asked the question. I have no clue what to do anymore or how to get my contacts into my entourage, so i can make a new e-mailaccount (personal one) and link everything together.
