Intel Mac :: How To Get Sound To Tv

Apr 26, 2012

i have been spending ages and a bit of money trying to get my LG tv linked up to my 2008 iMac. i have had advise from the guys at apple and bought a mini dvi to dvi adapter and a dvi to hdmi adapter. i was assured this would work but so far all i get is my desk top and when i play a film it plays fine (acting as another monitor) but the sound is still coming out of my imac.

am i wrong in thinking you can get the sound to come out of the tv? do i just need to set up some speakers under my tv and connect my imac to them so if feels like the sound is coming out the tv? obviously i dont want to do that, i want the sound to come out of my tv!

Intel Mac :: Sound Randomly Goes On And Off?

Mar 1, 2012

I have a 2006 IMac that works perfectly except for one thing. One day last year out of the blue the sound stopped working and I would get the 'not allowed' circle when I tried to adjust the volume. the problem persisted for a week or so, then the sound just came back on. Everything was fine untill a month ago when the same thing happened. I did some research and tried the toothpick trick and everything related but nothing worked, then the next morning the sound was on. Over the next few weeks the sound would go on and off randomly for no apparent reason. It has now been off for two solid weeks and I don't know what to do. Is it possibly a loose connection inside the computer that just needs to be plugged in?

Intel Mac :: Audio Keeps Going To External Sound On It?

Mar 17, 2012

My iMac switches from internal audio output to external when I log in after computer wakes up from sleep mode.  It also does it when I "shut down" under apple menu and physically turn on via the power button on back.  My quick fix is to go under audio settings and manually switch audio output back to internal speakers. I don't understand why it's switching on it's own. Could another program be switching the audio output, maybe iTunes?

Intel Mac :: Why Is It Making A Clicking Sound

Jun 10, 2012

I've bought my iMac in December 2011 and everything was functionating just fine untill 1 month ago. My iMac started to make clicking sounds for around 5-10 seconds, the interval between these sounds is usually half an hour to one hour. I personally think that it comes from the right side (the one with the CD/DVD entrance). I'd like to know what it causing this, how I can get this fixed and if it could be harmful to my iMac. I'll contact some premium resellers tomorrow and ask if they know what I can do about it.

Intel Mac :: OS X Keeps Muting Sound For No Reason

Jun 21, 2012

This is really getting old.  Now I want to return the $4000 computer and go back to Microsoft.  I've seen discussions dating back to 2007 about Macbooks and iMacs automatically muting themselves with no solution. APPLE FIX THIS NOW.  Enough of this problem. Write your OS so that it is IMPOSSIBLE for the iMac to mute itself

Now, before I return this hunk of junk, can you please tell me how to STOP this iMac from muting itself? (In system preferences/sound/output, the Mute box is checked and GRAYED OUT so that it cannot be changed by the ADMINISTRATOR (why on earth would you program it to do that?).

Intel Mac :: Sound Constantly Mutes On / Off

Jun 24, 2012

I have a 2009 24" iMac with OS X 10.7.4 and 8GB RAM. I have a problem with the system cycling through mute/unmute constantly, i.e. both in the sound functionality going on and off and the mute/unmute symbol appearing on screen. I thought this was just due to me filling the keyboard buffer by leaning on it, but none of the following measures has stopped this:

1. Switch off/on bluetooth keyboard;
2. Disconnect bluetooth keyboard, power off the keyboard and substitute a USB keyboard;
3. Several reboot, both by a restart and a cold reboot
4. Reset the PRAM

The symptom starts as soon at the Mac is running, i.e. at the screen with the user icon/name list, before anyone has logged in. Apart from this, the system seems to be completely usable - no unexplained crashes, slowness etc.
