I looked at my System Preferences and nothing is on Mute or checked. When I open my email, I've a long title and have to scroll down to read the actual email. I went to View in Messages and try to de-select Long Headers. how I can get rid off the long headers in my emails?
i have been spending ages and a bit of money trying to get my LG tv linked up to my 2008 iMac. i have had advise from the guys at apple and bought a mini dvi to dvi adapter and a dvi to hdmi adapter. i was assured this would work but so far all i get is my desk top and when i play a film it plays fine (acting as another monitor) but the sound is still coming out of my imac. Â
am i wrong in thinking you can get the sound to come out of the tv? do i just need to set up some speakers under my tv and connect my imac to them so if feels like the sound is coming out the tv? obviously i dont want to do that, i want the sound to come out of my tv!Â
Somehow the sound is muted. I don't seem to be able to unmute it. When I go to system oreferences and go to sounds, it shows the sound is muted, but the box that is checked is grey and won't respond to clicking.
I have a 2006 IMac that works perfectly except for one thing. One day last year out of the blue the sound stopped working and I would get the 'not allowed' circle when I tried to adjust the volume. the problem persisted for a week or so, then the sound just came back on. Everything was fine untill a month ago when the same thing happened. I did some research and tried the toothpick trick and everything related but nothing worked, then the next morning the sound was on. Over the next few weeks the sound would go on and off randomly for no apparent reason. It has now been off for two solid weeks and I don't know what to do. Is it possibly a loose connection inside the computer that just needs to be plugged in?
I do not know how my iMac has no audio device selected. I did go to settings, sound, and even went through some others' questions to select internal speakers, but that option is not there...and I still couldn't figure it out. It was working just fine yesterday.
When i am pressing the volume keys on keyboard it is showing muted sign on the screen. No sound is coming from the speakers. Sometimes the muted sign automatically goes and also suddenly display on the screen. But when i am connecting a external headphone sound is coming.
Info: iMac (21.5-inch Mid 2011), Mac OS X (10.6.8)
I have just upgraded to OS X Snow Leopard and my sound has disappeared. The icon is greyed out and from System Preferences there seems to be no way to get it back.
I have a 2006 imac with snow leopard- sound quality is going bad. When I plug in ext speakers- no sound comes through the speakers, there is an intial sound like an amp being plugged in, but then nothing.
The startup sound works but after you get to the desktop screen there is no sound. When you push the speaker keys there is a circle with a line thru it. I reboot and everything works after reboot. So I have to start and reboot everytime to get the sound to work.
I have no audio, either on the internet or YouTube. I checked System Preferences>Sound and note that both sliders in this drop down box cannot be moved. Also the "mute" box at the bottom right is checked. I cannot "unmute" this check mark. Before i did all the above I pressed the F12 button to increase volume but nothing (no sound) comes off.
I've been sending music from spotify out to my pioneer vsx-1121 through my WAN to a WAN adaptor on the reciever, but I've been getting annoying drop outs in the transmission.I've been told I can hook up a hdmi cable to my imac route the sound into my a/v reciever this way. There doesn't seem to be any clear information out there on how to do this (that I've found).
My iMac switches from internal audio output to external when I log in after computer wakes up from sleep mode. It also does it when I "shut down" under apple menu and physically turn on via the power button on back. My quick fix is to go under audio settings and manually switch audio output back to internal speakers. I don't understand why it's switching on it's own. Could another program be switching the audio output, maybe iTunes?
Processor 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5 Memory 12 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 Software Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3 (11D50d)
the ONLY output device listed in my system preferences is Digital Output with Optical Digital-Out Port. I NEVER used headphones or any external speakers. I don't know what turned the Internal Speakers OFF But I would like to turn them back on. I can't find any thing any where in the OS that would do that. Any one has ANY Clue to why this would happen?
my imac g5 model: a1174 Intel based computer powers on with the light on but no chime sound and a black screen. The fan's spin really really fast and i hear the hard drive power on, i replaced the ram and replaced the bios battery but it didn't
I recently ugraded my fathers iMac to Snow Leopard and he complained of it running slowly, i performed a permission check on the system and restarted, once started up the machine now has no sound from any application.Â
My iMac 27" 2.7 GHz Inter Core i5 has just stopped producing sound. The speakers seem to work fine, because I can hear the startup sound, but nothing comes out of iTunes, Youtube, Quicktime, DVDs or any other medium.
I videotaped a presentation - the speaker was using PP projector close to him (close to his lapel mike) - sound volume on my camera was quite low. Now I have buzz from the projector equally loud to his voice. Is there away I can remove the projector buzz?
My iMac has no more sound after a power outage. I fear the soundchip is fried. I've tried all things like reparing permissions and verifying disk. I've read something about PRAM resetting?
I've bought my iMac in December 2011 and everything was functionating just fine untill 1 month ago. My iMac started to make clicking sounds for around 5-10 seconds, the interval between these sounds is usually half an hour to one hour. I personally think that it comes from the right side (the one with the CD/DVD entrance). I'd like to know what it causing this, how I can get this fixed and if it could be harmful to my iMac. I'll contact some premium resellers tomorrow and ask if they know what I can do about it. Â
This is really getting old. Now I want to return the $4000 computer and go back to Microsoft. I've seen discussions dating back to 2007 about Macbooks and iMacs automatically muting themselves with no solution. APPLE FIX THIS NOW. Enough of this problem. Write your OS so that it is IMPOSSIBLE for the iMac to mute itself
Now, before I return this hunk of junk, can you please tell me how to STOP this iMac from muting itself? (In system preferences/sound/output, the Mute box is checked and GRAYED OUT so that it cannot be changed by the ADMINISTRATOR (why on earth would you program it to do that?).
I have a 2009 24" iMac with OS X 10.7.4 and 8GB RAM. I have a problem with the system cycling through mute/unmute constantly, i.e. both in the sound functionality going on and off and the mute/unmute symbol appearing on screen. I thought this was just due to me filling the keyboard buffer by leaning on it, but none of the following measures has stopped this:
1. Switch off/on bluetooth keyboard; 2. Disconnect bluetooth keyboard, power off the keyboard and substitute a USB keyboard; 3. Several reboot, both by a restart and a cold reboot 4. Reset the PRAM
The symptom starts as soon at the Mac is running, i.e. at the screen with the user icon/name list, before anyone has logged in. Apart from this, the system seems to be completely usable - no unexplained crashes, slowness etc.
