My brother in law helped me set up my computer when I first got it, and told me I should have a password on my computer. He set it up, but lost it and doesn't remember the password at all. I have been using it this way, but I need to download software to it now and I am being asked for a password to download Adobe Reader of all things.

I am running OS X Mavericks, and when I want to, let's say, install a Sims 3 game, it asks for my administrator password. Now since someone else owns the computer (and they don't want me to know their password but I can install the games with their permission) I don't know the admin password, and I want to know, is there a way to bypass that admin password without having to reset it to a pass I know? I have tried to use the install disc to reset the password, but it does not allow me to do so. Is there a way to reset the name and password without the install disc? For as long as I can remember whenever I would turn on my mac there would be an image that I had chosen and then a field to enter password. Just recently I turned on my mac and the image or avatar was no longer coming up and it asked for Name and Password. I have tried every combination I can think of and nothing works. I recently got my computer fixed and ended up getting a new one. it is a mac book laptop. I changed the password before it got sent and i completely forgot it. They backed my new laptop up with my old hard drive so now i got my old stuff on the new one. I want to download this application so i can fix this .zip file but i need the admin password. I've tried using the install discs but they tell me to enter the admin. I've tried putting the install disc in and pushing c on start up but it just freezes on the white screen with the apple. Is there something wrong with my computer? should i contact the insurance company who i dealt with?
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy IMac (intel) usually goes straight to my desktop when it is switched on. Normally only asking for a password if it sat idle for some time. Today it has gone straight to a password box, which when I enter my password it doesn't accept it. When it is not accepting the password it goes to a black screen (prior to which it has a very very dark green hue to the screen for a second).
I have tried inserting the Snow Leopard disc, both with and without holding down the command key. I have also tried holding down the command, option and P & R keys. These give the chimes every few seconds. I have done this allowing it to chime up to 10 times, but once I release the keys it still goes back to the password box. Is there an over-riding password I can enter? Or something else I can do to get past this?

I just installed Leopard to my old 14" Mac G4 laptop. Everything was going fine until the first screen dialog box asked for my password. I tried the usual suspects.. even my hint was "the usual one" and I cannot get the computer to accept it or anything else. I am in a loop and cannot get any further. The dialogue box gives you log in, restart and shut down. Is there a work around? How do I get out of this mess? I am in deep poop as I need to access my computer. What can I do... I'm logging on to someone else's computer until I can get back into mine.
