Intel Mac :: Asking For Password Rather Than Going To Desktop
Jun 7, 2012
My IMac (intel) usually goes straight to my desktop when it is switched on. Normally only asking for a password if it sat idle for some time. Today it has gone straight to a password box, which when I enter my password it doesn't accept it. When it is not accepting the password it goes to a black screen (prior to which it has a very very dark green hue to the screen for a second).
I have tried inserting the Snow Leopard disc, both with and without holding down the command key. I have also tried holding down the command, option and P & R keys. These give the chimes every few seconds. I have done this allowing it to chime up to 10 times, but once I release the keys it still goes back to the password box. Is there an over-riding password I can enter? Or something else I can do to get past this?

My brother in law helped me set up my computer when I first got it, and told me I should have a password on my computer. He set it up, but lost it and doesn't remember the password at all. I have been using it this way, but I need to download software to it now and I am being asked for a password to download Adobe Reader of all things.

My imac takes my password and then the color wheel displays. The screen cycles quickly and then comes back to type password again. I have shut down and restarted the computer multiple times.Â

I have just bought the new Mac Mini,but when the screen comes up it has a football icon in the middle of the screen below that it says type in password (To get to your Desktop}
I hadn`t a clue what the password was so Looked in my book at all the passwords.
I tried them one by one then I struck lucky I typed in this password which I new that it wouldn`t work but to my surprise it worked.
how I can to the desktop without these passwords. In system preferences you can change it,but it says then you will have to remember two passwords.

I have an application on my desktop that is attached to a webserver updating account that I need to modify the settings for. Problem is, I've forgotten the password and their 'forgot password' thing isn't responding after a few hours. If I could just reveal the password that's saved on the desktop application then I wouldn't have to mess with it. I looked all though Keychain, but it doesn't seem to be anywhere in there. Back in PC days there were tons of applications that could just reveal what was behind the little dots. After about 20 minutes of searching, it seems that the mac world offers no such convenience. Anyone know some other way around this? I mean, it must be stored somewhere on here. The application is remembering the password.

I have a Powerbook G4 running Tiger. I forgot my admin password (which was the only user account I had), but I couldn't find my install disc. I have since found it, but since I am the impatient type, I went searching google to figure out how to reset my password without the disc. One website told me to change the name of my "home folder," so I changed it from "Jason" to "Hello." It then said to reboot and type the following at the command prompt: "sh /etc/rc"
Which I did, and a bunch of text came up. Then I typed: "passwd Jason" to change the admin password. It prompted me to enter a new password twice, which I did. Then I rebooted. When the login came up, it had two logins to choose from, "Jason" and "Other." I chose Jason and entered my new password. When it logged in, all my desktop files were gone and all my Safari and Firefox bookmarks were gone. In my "/Users" folder, it now has "Jason" as the home icon, and beside that there is a folder called "Hello." In "Hello/Desktop," I found all my files that used to be on my Desktop. How do I get my old account back (Hello)? I still don't remember the password. Do I need to use the disc? Should I just drag all the files from the "Hello/Desktop" folder to my "new" desktop?
Also, when I went into terminal, and typed "ls -a /Users" it came back with this:
..DS_Store Shared Hello
...localized Jason

I have a mac osx 10.4 with only 1 (admin) user account. When I try to drag any folder to the desktop, it will prompt me for the administrator password. I have checked the security settings in system preferences, and FileVault is turned off. how I can disable this function? None of the other macs on the network have this "feature" enabled.

I have two accounts a standard user account that I use all of the time and a separate admin account to use when I need to. Okay, so I just started my mac up and was creating some new folders and moving files from my user folder to my desktop (on my standard account). OS 10.5 comes up with a box asking for an admin password to make changes. It also does this when I try to move files to the trash. How do I fix this permissions error? (I've already tried repairing permissions and that didn't work)
