Apr 7, 2012Yesterday we set up the computer at the Apple Store. When entering the Password for the computer, apparently we thought we were entering one thing when in fact we entered something else. Now I can't log into the computer to install new printer software, reset/change my password or anything else. I have tried looking through the Manual for the iMac 27-inch, Mid 2011 and can't find anything for resetting the password, finding it in the Keychain Access, etc. The computer is a waste if I can't reset the password to install the apps I need on it.

Jan 13, 2009I just bought a used Emac running 10.3.9. The previous owner does not remember the administrator password nor did I realize how important it is to have. I have the original install discs and did boot using the disc. I then went under the install menu and chose reset password. I changed the user password but have been unsuccessful at changing the admin password. The drop down menu in password reset gave me the option of Administrator (root), Application, or finally user. I have read a couple of articles cautioning not to change or work with root changes.

Now I can't update any applications or change any of the settings. I can't restart the computer from the disk because it asks for the admin password. I wanted to change some settings on the computer, but when I entered the administrator password it did not work.I was told that I had to boot up with the system CD and then enter a new admin password, which I did. It seemed to work fine.Now I would like to eliminate the password entirely, but when I go to that section and enter a password, it reads "Incorrect Password"! It seems to work for individual applications, but when it comes to eliminating the password completely, no luck. Could it be looking for the old (UNKNOWN) password? If so I have tried everything and still nothing.

Now since someone else owns the computer (and they don't want me to know their password but I can install the games with their permission) I don't know the admin password, and I want to know, is there a way to bypass that admin password without having to reset it to a pass I know? Or do I just have to deal with the fact that I have to ask?

Jul 5, 2008My mother works for a school district which provides laptop computers. They recently rolled over to newer computers and my mother purchased the old one from the school. Most everything works normally, although there are quite a few things(system preference e.t.c..) which require a admin name & password. It has been impossible for me to acquire these from the school and I am looking for a way to override these. I read on a forum to reinstall the hard drive from an operting cd. I have no cds whatsoever with the computer. Would love any suggestions on how to override thise system admin & password problem.
