New to Mac computers. When trying to open computer after being in sleep mode, I clicked the mouse to open the password screen, & a blank blue/black screen appeared & the mouse timer( colored circle) appeared, as if to be waiting. I had to unplug the computer to reboot it. This has happened twice in 2 days.
When I open a folder in Finder with a large amount of images (4,500 photos), I cannot right-click these icons; when I do right-click a selected icon, it deselects it, and the right-click menu reverts to the menu that would show up as if I clicked the background of the finder. Since this only happens in this folder, and I can click on desktop icons in another Finder window simultaneously, does this mean it is memory issue in that particular window or something? I am trying to organize this massive folder (move to trash, copy, etc) and having to go up to the file menu to do this can get pretty time consuming. Intel Macbook 10.4.11
When I click on the finder icon and the trash icon in the dock, nothing happens. Even when I right click and press New Finder Window, nothing happens. If I want to upload a file, a window doesn't pop up for me to be able to access my files. When I edit a Pages document, it somehow says it is saved, but doesn't tell me where.
On my desktop I have some files and folders, the images and other files open but not folders. With the trash I am somehow able to right click it and empty the trash can. I have restarted my Macbook Pro 13inch running OS X Mavericks Version 10.9.3 several times and it still doesn't work. I even tried booting in safe mode but finder still doesn't work.
Ever sense i've updated my machine to lion I cant open folders by just clicking on them anymore. I am forced to right click them and then hit "open" it is beyond annoying where to i go to fix this problem?Â
I tap on the Mail Icon in the Dock, Mail doesnt Open, quite often there is what appears to be a Mail Window opening but it disappears as quick as it arrives.Â
The only way I can Open Mail is to lightly double tap my mouse pad, which pops up a menu from the Mail icon, there is often a list of previously opened Mail windows, I can often select one these, but only the one showing a Black 4 sided Diamond shape opens a Mail window, if it is blank or has a Tick, it doesnt open at all.Â
Failing that I have to select Open New Viewer windowÂ
[URL] ... See image above, this may explain easier my problem, normally MAIL should open by tapping the Mail Dock Icon, I just did that , it did nothing, zilch.
instead I have to often SELECT "New Viewer Window", other times I get by, by selecting one of the recently opened Windows with a Black shape next to it !!Â

I have a new iMac with MS Office for Mac 2011. When I go to finder and click on a document the computer opens all word docs. How do i stop this behavior?
I have a 13in MacBook Pro Mid 2012 model with a 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5 processor and 4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 memory. I've got it new in the summer of 2012, and haven't had any real problems until now. I have a 1TB Hitachi external hard drive with over 600GB left of storage. I'm running Yosemite.Â
Lately, as in the past few weeks but more noticeably the past few days, I can't open files if I just double click on them from my desktop or from searching them outside of the application. For instance, if I click on a word document on my desktop, it will cause the work icon to bounce for a while, pretending to open, but it never does. If the application is already running, the file just won't open. If I search from the "open" selection within the application, it works fine. This is true for all of my Microsoft Office apps, Photoshop, Preview, iTunes, and everything in between, all of which I had never had a problem with before.Â
Next, anytime I try to backup my system using Time Machine, it simply shows the "Preparing Backup" status and never starts. I've had the hard drive and used it as a Time Machine since I got the computer, and have had zero problems at all.Â
I've tried CleanMyMac2, Memory Clean, and I've always kept my Mac very clean and organized, as in no duplicate files, moving my biggest files onto my hard drive, and deleting any of my unnecessary files. I know I don't have a ton of RAM left, but I'm honestly not completely sure what to do about that, as this model apparently doesn't have RAM updates available. Â

Here's an interesting one for all you intelegent people out there. Â
I have a 2011 iMac running Lion. I have a USB harddrive connected which stores digial versions of all my DVDs so that I can stream them to my AppleTV. Has no issues with it before now. A moment ago my Mac crashed and had to be restarted by holding down the button at the back (first time ever!!). When i turned the thing back on, the drive didn't mount so I went into disk utility and repaired the drive which resulted in it mounting. Â
Here lies the problem, I can access files on my drive in every other folder but the Movies on. See the below video. [URL]
I have an iMac9,1 Intel Core 2 Duo 2.93 GHz with 8 Gb RAM. OSX Lion 10.7.3. Whenever I right click on a file in Finder and select "open with" the spinning wheel starts and may continue for 5 minutes, then stops and still doesn't open a drop down list of applications. During this time it's not possible to force quit or do anything else.
Info: iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.3), iMac9,1 Intel Core 2 Duo 2.93 GHz
earlier I tried emptying my trash and my cursor started spinning and hasn't stopped I've tried to open finder and won't, tried to hop online and no luck.
I was told, to highlight the information and do a get Info on it and report back what the message said. When I go to finder and click on the attachment the attachment comes up picture stamp size but so does Picaso. I am unable to find a get information attached to the attachment at finder.
Sometimes I simply cannot open a new finder window. If I use Command-N or if I choose New Finder Window in the Finder menu, nothing happens. If I am using Command-N, I can see the File heading in the Finder menu bar highlighting, and then after a few seconds the highlight goes, but no window opens. Also, clicking on my Downloads icon in the dock, the dialog opens showing all the files, but if I then click on Open in Finder, the dialog closes but nothing happens. Now that I am writing this message, it all works again! That's what I mean by 'sometimes'. This issue can last for tens of minutes. Secndly, and this is still a problem, my finder Preferences do not stick. So for instance, I don't want to see an icon for my hard disk on the desktop, so I untick this in Finder preferences. The icon disappears. If I now re-start, then it comes back. The same happens for removing the empty trash warning and all of the other Finder Preference tick boxes.Â
Now, when the first problem of not being able to open a finder window suddenly stopped being a problem, the icon for the hard disk suddenly appeared on my desktop. So the two issues are linked. This has been going on intermittently for a few days. I have verified my disk, and repaired permissions.
I plugged in a new external HDD, and clicked "Don't use" by mistake, and now I have no clue how to be able to use it, as it doesn't show up in Disk Utility or finder. This is on my iMac, in case you couldn't figure that out. It works fine on my Windows computer though.
Finder was not responding so I did a force quit and now it won't relaunch. I can still open other apps using spotlight. I just can't get to the finder icons and the finder menu bar. When I click the FInder icon in the dock, I get the -10810 error code and a message that says "The application Finder can't be opened"
I just upgraded to Lion- yes, I'm a late adopter- and now, my "Finder" won't open in the dock. I have repaired permissions, and I can "work around it" by clicking on my apple logo and doing a force quit on finder. After I do, the dock icon will work. However, if I then reboot, I'm back to square one.Â
This is a switcher question What I miss in Leopard is the ability to open one photo in Finder and then clicking next/previous to access other photos located in the same directory. I know that I can select all the photos I want to view and open them in Preview but I don't like this. In some cases I just dont know in advance all the photos I want to view. The Coverflow browsing is not large enough to view he photos. In Windows, the image preview could do this as well as the Picasa's preview. Is that somehow possible in OSX?
How do I open a folder in a new finder window? I know on a PC you can right click the folder and choose open in new window. How is this accomplished on the mac?
It has been bothering me for some time that when I open the Finder window, it opens pretty small and I either need to re-adjust it or scroll to find the folder. Is there a way to set it so that the Finder Window opens to a set amount of space?
I just turned on my 20-day old 17" MacBook Pro Unibody and nothing happens other than a LONG boot sequence. The Finder isn't even indicated as running in the dock, and the only thin the conputer is capable of is opening a few select windows. Every time I attempt to run an app, I get the following warning: You can't Open the Application (null) because it may be damaged or incomplete. That's all the computer can do. I tried to launch Onyx to clean out the baffels, but it just won't launch. The computer only shuts down or restarts by holding the power key down.
I've just noticed this happening tonight. I did perform todays Mac Update but I don't know if they are related. Whenever I try to open "Macintosh HD" (my boot drive) the Finder closes. Does anyone know what the solution could be? I was able to run a "verify disk" and it said there were errors so I did a reboot to my Snow Leopard start up disk and was able to repair the errors.
I've googled everything I can think of and can't seem to find anyone else with this issue. I'd rather not have to reimage the machine. Upon further investigation I've noticed that the problem seemed to have started on June 20th. I can access the back-up folders of my Time Machine for "Macintosh HD" for all dates prior but starting on the 20th if I try to access the Macintosh HD backup folder, Finder shuts down just as it does with the current Macintosh HD.
Have a 3 1/2 year old imac with OS 10.5.6 and love it; use it tons.
I was adding some music to my idisk's public folder when the copying process froze;got stuck. The little spinning disc would not go away.
I closed down all other applications. My finder window was frozen with that disc, and could not force quit it, even though tried several techniques to do so. I finally turned off the computer manually.
When I turned my imac back on, the finder window was gone. I cannot open a finder window from the finder image on my dock.
My word documents, Safari, email all work, but my desktop is blank and I cannot open any finder window.
I think that it must have been something that the idisk caused.
My finder does not open up to the Desktop and I cannot find items. Also, when I try to upload a photo in FB or other sites, I cannot find the iPhoto libraries to upload photos.
