View 1 Replies View RelatedLately I've been getting this error more and more often.
The application Finder can't be opened.-10810
I did some searching, and the only info I could find was for other applications, but nothing on Finder.
I get it from a fresh restart, with only Safari and iStat Menus running. Whatever is causing it is also hammering the processor to 100%. It's taken me almost 5 minutes just to type out this thread.
I'm on a 1st gen. MacBook Air, running Snow Leopard, fully up to date.
Am I looking at a fresh install?
I'm using the latest update (10.6.4) on a new 2.8 quad iMac. Tons of HD space left. I have started getting the 10810 error. I've posted this at Apple support, but no support yet. I've also read every thread I can find.1) Finder is crashed upon login. Opening it gives the dreaded 10810 error.2) Can't empty the trash or show downloads3) Nothing appears on the desktop- HD, DVD, etc. Saving a file to the desktop does not cause it to appear.

Here's an interesting one for all you intelegent people out there. Â
I have a 2011 iMac running Lion. I have a USB harddrive connected which stores digial versions of all my DVDs so that I can stream them to my AppleTV. Has no issues with it before now. A moment ago my Mac crashed and had to be restarted by holding down the button at the back (first time ever!!). When i turned the thing back on, the drive didn't mount so I went into disk utility and repaired the drive which resulted in it mounting. Â
Here lies the problem, I can access files on my drive in every other folder but the Movies on. See the below video. [URL]
have I lost my 660gb+ collection of movies?Â

I have an iMac9,1 Intel Core 2 Duo 2.93 GHz with 8 Gb RAM. OSX Lion 10.7.3. Whenever I right click on a file in Finder and select "open with" the spinning wheel starts and may continue for 5 minutes, then stops and still doesn't open a drop down list of applications. During this time it's not possible to force quit or do anything else.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a problem when I'm transferring files from my powerbook g4 to external hard disks such as lacie or ipod. It keeps popping up "The finder cannot Complete operation because some data in File AVI could Not be Read or Written. (Error Code -36).
View 2 Replies View RelatedSo a few weeks ago, I copied my entire music library (97.5gb) onto my external hard drive (Mac OS X Extended, Journaled) to save space on my boot drive. Since then, I've been able to update my iPod, receiving the message "Attempting to copy to the disk <iPod name> failed. The disk could not be read from or written to".
I formatted my iPod to see if that was the problem, but it still won't copy. So, in order to right that situation, I tried to copy all my music back to my regular HD, but now am receiving the Finder Error code -36 "The Finder cannot complete the operation because some of the data in (name of file) could not be read or written." I can't format the external drive either because then I would lose all of my music.
I keep getting the following error intermittently while copying files in Finder: The Finder cannot complete the operation because some data in "<file>" could not be read or written. (Error code -36). I have a 20" Intel iMac with a 250 GB internal drive running OS X 10.4.7 with the latest updates, plus 2 external drives - one a Lacie 300 GB d2 Triple Interface Extreme (attached via Firewire) and the other a Lacie 300 GB Ethernet Disk mini (attached via USB 2.0). The error has occurred 3 times in the space of a few days.
- The first time, I was copying files from the Firewire drive (which was NTFS-formatted at the time) to the USB drive (which is HFS+J formatted). After the error occurred, subsequent attempts to copy and open the file on the source (Firewire) drive were successful.
- When it happened a second time, I had already reformatted the Firewire drive to HFS+J, so they were both HFS+J now, and I was copying files the other way (USB to Firewire). The copy failed with the same error, but on a different file. This time subsequent attempts to copy or open that file on the source (USB) drive failed - the file was corrupt and I had to restore it from a backup.
- The third time it happened, I was copying files from the iMac's internal drive to the Firewire drive. On this occasion, subsequent attempts to copy and open the file that error on the source (internal) drive were successful.
This has all happened in the space of a few days, and has made me very worried - I can't even pin the problem down to one particular suspect drive or cable, since each time the error occurred I was copying from a different drive. The Firewire drive was involved all 3 times (once as the source and twice as the destination) - but the only time a file got permanently corrupted was on the USB drive.
Does anyone know the meaning of an error code -43? I receive this when trying to burn a data DVD from the Finder; the error text is to the effect of "<cannot find resource fork> for <path not accessible>". Doesn't seem to matter what I'm trying to burn. Burning disc images using Disk Utility or from iDVD works fine. My hard disk, from where the files are being copied, verified with no errors.
View 1 Replies View RelatedSometimes I simply cannot open a new finder window. If I use Command-N or if I choose New Finder Window in the Finder menu, nothing happens. If I am using Command-N, I can see the File heading in the Finder menu bar highlighting, and then after a few seconds the highlight goes, but no window opens. Also, clicking on my Downloads icon in the dock, the dialog opens showing all the files, but if I then click on Open in Finder, the dialog closes but nothing happens. Now that I am writing this message, it all works again! That's what I mean by 'sometimes'. This issue can last for tens of minutes. Secndly, and this is still a problem, my finder Preferences do not stick. So for instance, I don't want to see an icon for my hard disk on the desktop, so I untick this in Finder preferences. The icon disappears. If I now re-start, then it comes back. The same happens for removing the empty trash warning and all of the other Finder Preference tick boxes.Â
Now, when the first problem of not being able to open a finder window suddenly stopped being a problem, the icon for the hard disk suddenly appeared on my desktop. So the two issues are linked. This has been going on intermittently for a few days. I have verified my disk, and repaired permissions.

I get the following message when I try to open a document on my external HD- "The operation could not be completed. An unexpected error occurred (error code -43). I can open other documents in all the other folders on the hard drive and I can open the problem documents when I attach the hard drive to a PC. Does anyone know why I get the error code? Is there a list of error codes that I can look at?
