Well this is a truly annoying "feature" in Lion. I just upgraded from Snow Leopard. Every time I open Safari, windows open from a previous session.
I've searched Safari's preferences and can't find anything to disable this. Even emptied cache. No luck. Same is true with certain other apps.Â
This is not good, for the obvious reasons. Is there any way to disable this? I know about logging in and out, seperate accounts, private browsing, but this is crazy as it requires MORE work not less. Whatever happened to keeping it simple?Â
My finder does not open up to the Desktop and I cannot find items. Also, when I try to upload a photo in FB or other sites, I cannot find the iPhoto libraries to upload photos.

I upgraded to Lion a few weeks ago and now the FINDER will not open and all of my desk top icons are gone. I've been reading different posts, but everyone says something different. Snow Leopard was working great.
View 4 Replies View RelatedThe Mac OS X on the system has suddenly frozen her out of everything but the finder and the desktop. It boots fine and pops up on the desktop, and everything looks completely normal. But when you want to run an application and click on it, a big fat question mark appears over the icon in the bottom menu, no matter what application you click on. Further more it appears that all applications has been wiped from the system when you enter the applications folder. It is completely empty.
Now I've tried to click on different stuff, such as the internet, to turn it off, but nothing happens. I've also tried to enter the OSX preferences, but nothing happens when I do. At times it comes up with the message that you don't have permission to open certain programs, even though the programs apparently dont exist on the Mac. I've interrogated my girlfriend about her activity, and she swears she has done nothing out of the ordinary like download shady software or anything, and apparently all of this has come like lightning from a clear sky.
I usually have several desktops open, and want to have a separate Finder window open in whichever desktop I happen to be working in. But it always opens in a desktop where it's always running. Then I have to go get it and put it where I want it.Â
Is there a key combination that lets me override that default (if that's what it is) and let's me open it where I want it?Â

Here's an interesting one for all you intelegent people out there. Â
I have a 2011 iMac running Lion. I have a USB harddrive connected which stores digial versions of all my DVDs so that I can stream them to my AppleTV. Has no issues with it before now. A moment ago my Mac crashed and had to be restarted by holding down the button at the back (first time ever!!). When i turned the thing back on, the drive didn't mount so I went into disk utility and repaired the drive which resulted in it mounting. Â
Here lies the problem, I can access files on my drive in every other folder but the Movies on. See the below video. [URL]

I have an iMac9,1 Intel Core 2 Duo 2.93 GHz with 8 Gb RAM. OSX Lion 10.7.3. Whenever I right click on a file in Finder and select "open with" the spinning wheel starts and may continue for 5 minutes, then stops and still doesn't open a drop down list of applications. During this time it's not possible to force quit or do anything else.

Sometimes I simply cannot open a new finder window. If I use Command-N or if I choose New Finder Window in the Finder menu, nothing happens. If I am using Command-N, I can see the File heading in the Finder menu bar highlighting, and then after a few seconds the highlight goes, but no window opens. Also, clicking on my Downloads icon in the dock, the dialog opens showing all the files, but if I then click on Open in Finder, the dialog closes but nothing happens. Now that I am writing this message, it all works again! That's what I mean by 'sometimes'. This issue can last for tens of minutes. Secndly, and this is still a problem, my finder Preferences do not stick. So for instance, I don't want to see an icon for my hard disk on the desktop, so I untick this in Finder preferences. The icon disappears. If I now re-start, then it comes back. The same happens for removing the empty trash warning and all of the other Finder Preference tick boxes.Â
Now, when the first problem of not being able to open a finder window suddenly stopped being a problem, the icon for the hard disk suddenly appeared on my desktop. So the two issues are linked. This has been going on intermittently for a few days. I have verified my disk, and repaired permissions.

I bought an external Hard drive for my macbook pro to use to work on all my protools sessions on. After transferring all my sessions to the external drive and opening up a session, I get no sound coming out of my speakers. Protools is working properly, all meters are working, and protools is working as if nothing is wrong with it. I thought something was wrong with my settings for my interface(m-audio firewire solo), but there still isn't any sound coming out. I took all my files out of the external drive and transferred it back onto my macbook pro and now sound is coming out of my speakers. I can't figure it out. Do you think it's the external hard drive? Should I get a new one?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been having repeated kernel panics for a little over a week now. I've run disk utility, tech tools, the disk utility on the installation disk, remember ram test, installed a virus checker, reinstalled (archive/install) mac os x. I am not receiving any errors in the tests, but I am still having kernel panics. They always happen when I am on the internet, not immediately, but I'd say about 20 minutes or so into a session. I first started having the panics when I clicked on a link from someone's facebook page and a kernel panic immediately popped onto my screen. I've been having them ever since.

I started up my iMac (see sig) this morning as usual, and noticed that my hard drive ("Macintosh HD") did not appear on the desktop, or in Finder windows. I checked Finder preferences to see if the option to show it was checked, and it was. I tried restarting, logging out and back in, and god knows what else to try and solve the problem. However, it still hasnt appeared.
View 24 Replies View RelatedMy desktop keeps refreshing automatically. Even if I'm not doing anything on it, after about 1 minute, all of the icons will disappear then they all apear again like nothing happend. Nothing else seems affected by this, but if I have a Finder window open, it gets closed. When I am on another program and when it refreshes, it brings me onto the finder instead of program I am on, which gets annoying after a while. If I am trying to copy some files on the finder (like from one folder to another), when it refreshes, it stops the copying.

I have plugged in the disk after I purchased without any special formatting or anything, and it worked fine so far. It just took a while, about few minutes, for the Macbook to show it on the desktop every time I got it disconnected and connected again. However, this time, I can not see the disk on the desktop nor on the Finder no matter what. I have plugged it in and out several times, I have restarted the machine etc. Nothing works. The disk is quite empty and it works fine with the PC..no cable problem or and disk failure issue for sure. I can see the disk on the Disk Utility app, but I can neither verify nor mount it...
View 5 Replies View RelatedIs it normal for the Finder to quit using the Cmd+ Q? I thought it needs to be force quit. But of late, sometimes, accidentally if I press Cmd+Q on a finder window, it quits, and does not relaunch either. So to speak, the Desktop disappears. I have to launch Downloads/Documents from the Dock to start the finder running once again. Doesn't seem Mac like. Something wrong, is it? And I recall this started happening after I ran an update for 10.6.1. It was running fine with 10.6.0

Is there a way in OS X to get the finder windows or any open windows or programs to "snap to" and align with the edges of the desktop? Not the icons, the windows themselves.
