Intel Mac :: Auto-search Misspell Words In Url Bar?
May 20, 2012
On my mac just like every other computer in this world it has a url bar. If I mis-spell something in the url bar it searches it using some bad search engine called optimum. I wanted to change it so I would automatically be searched with google instead of optimum.
Lately I have downloaded a lot of files from Google Drive, and I'm trying to sort a lot of documents (262 exactly) by finding a set of numbers and letters that only one kind of document has.
For example, I'm trying to find the documents that have "5R-ET1" to see which documents has those set of letters inside the documents to sort them in a diffrent folder. Is there something in the Finder that can allow me to do this, or is there like this program which compares documents that fits my use?
Sometimes titles do not match the content. If I have a bunch of files with similar title, i.e. Chapter 1, 2, etc., but I want to find the chapter with the jabberwock in it, I used to be able to type "jabberwock" and it would come up in my search window. Now it's only finding titles. I have so many files on my puter that it's taking me forever to find important documents. Where did they hide this feature??? Tearing my hair out.
I'm a new safari user. in firefox, for example when I've searched "bacon" on one site, if I search it again on other website, bacon would show in the dropdown when I type "b." but in safari that's not the case. "bacon" only shows up on the website that I've searched it on. the same with forms. I have to type my e-mail on every website. it's tiring.
In a previous contact software program I have used for years, the first letter of names, streets, and cities, were automatically capitalized as I typed them in. Unfortunately, that software does not work under Lion and the developer is out of business. Because of that, I am trying to convert to Address Book. I can't find the ability to have that same thing happen in Address Book. Is there something I can turn on in Preferences or some other obscure window? My old contact software also automatically filled in cities, names, or states that I previously entered. Great time saver but doesn't seem to exist in Address Book.
I don't know if this is properly autofill or autocomplete - the two overlap too much anyway so I'm not wasting brain cells trying to come up with a distinction that makes sense to non-engineers. ANYWAY. Here's the point.
I'm on my bank website. My login is xtnjohnson -- just like here. Only I mistyped it once, so in autofill/autocomplete (whichever it is), I get a little drop-down showing two options: xtnjohnson or xtnjohson.
I want to delete only the second option. I recall at sometime finding a very simple way that involved highlighting the offending entry and hitting either control-delete, shift-delete, command-delete, or function-delete, only I can't seem to get any of those combinations to work. And of course I can't find the thread anymore.
The solution did *not* involve dealing with the autofill preferences in *any* way -- I've seen that option and it doesn't help (a) because there's no quick way to find the website where the problem is occurring (my list is long), (b) even when I go through my list, I don't see my bank's url, (c) the place for entering my login appears to be in something like JavaScript, so I'm not sure it'd be tracked in one of those lists, and (d) I don't know that this is properly an "autofill" problem anyway.
I am unable to use the search window on the right to get results when Google is selected as the search engine.I type in a search term and I am directed to a blank google search page. I have to type in the search term again, then I see a list of "hits". But when
I click on one of these hits I am not directed to the URL displayed. I have quit out of Safari and relaunched. I have rebooted my Mac. Neither changes the problem... This is a Google problem: I have the same symptoms when I use Safari on Windows XP. When I switch the search engine to Bing, the problems go away, for both platforms Has Google been hacked? Is this a Google attack on Safari? How can I enter GoGoDuck as a search engine choice?
On my macbook pro which is using mountain lion, by safari search engine preferences is set to google, but when i enter a search term it defaults to bing. Only noticed this problem after downloading adobe flash player for what it's worth.
Is there a keyboard shortcut for switching search engines in Safari's search box (I believe Chrome had this feature before they got rid of the search box in the latest version)? The arrow on the left-hand side is cumbersome.
Hum I dont know how or why this changed havent told Safari to change it. is there a way to set it back to safari? Only thing I have downloaded is Makethewebbetter for a plug in for facebook dont think that changed it (its a app for elfyourself)
Is Firefox crashing frequently for anyone else? I'm running 3.6 and it is crashing on me almost every day, and every time it is just after I start typing in the address bar or the search bar.
I have a 2000+ page PDF, and I need to search the PDF and print those pages that have a specific search term. The last search I did turned up 617 pages, I would not be economical to have to go through and manually input every page to print them. I've tried every method I could think of with preview. I've tried Adobe. I've tried PDF Reader, PDF Reader X,PDF Reader ++ ...
How does this work? If I have more than one user logged in, the power goes out and the computer decides (based on the settings I have selected for UPS) to shut down, will it be able to complete the shutdown? When I do it manually I have to log out the other users.
I purchased a program from a trusted website and was able to download it....however when I try to install it I get an "Apple Run Script Error"....the support team for the web site thinks it is Automator.
i've looked thru Mail Preferences and can't see where i can delete an old email address. deleted already from address-book & contacts but still seems to pop up automatically when i type person's name (along with the correct email).
I tried to get auto clicker for my mac, to play minecraft and I set it on the script to click 10 times a second. Now it wont let me click on the mouse or use the keyboard. I have tried turning it off and back on a few times and still nothing all I want to know is how to stop the script and let me play minecraft.
I'm using the newest IMac. And the problem is every time I put data using number (iwork) for accounting, the font is very very little almost unable to see by normal. I must pinching my eyes a little bit to see it clearly. Should I change something in setting and how? and this is happen when using safari too. From the first time I bought it, I never change the setting except to change username and password to login in. So I let it all in default version. I'm using IMac 27-inch, Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4 processor 3.1GHz intel core i5. Nothing changed since I bought it till now. It's very annoyed and difficult for me to input, edited, even read it as report.
I have close to 30 sites in my keychain, but one will not remember login info. When I had first joined the site, it worked fine. Unfortunately it had not synched my login info using the cloud to my iPod touch. I had of course forgotten the recommended suggested password (letters, numbers & symbols), and so had a password request sent to my phone. Again unfortunately the cloud did not resend the password to my computer, so I just ended up creating my own easy to remember password. It was recalling the strange passwords, but wouldn't put my password into my mac. It also began to stop asking to save passwords from that site altogether. I ran keychain first aid, & I trashed the Keychain Access.plist. I didn't reset my Default Key Chain button, because I don't to loose all of my saved info.
Some time in the past week or to, the search results that are returend from Finder, are now in descending order. I have no idea when or how that was changed, but I'd like to change it back to ascending. How do I accomplish?
I tried clicking and right clicking the column header. Nothing. Can't find anything Settings either.
