When I turn on my computer the log-in menu appears and i type my password and then it seems as though it is loading the desktop, however, after a couple minutes the login screen just pops up again. I ran the hardware checker and it told me I have the error 4M0T/4/40000003:HDD-1445

I turned my iMac on (2008 model) but after 10 minutes it went black and beeped 3 times loudly, repeating at 5 second cycles. Shut it down by pressing the ON button for 5 sec. Restarted and all worked for a hour before repeating the same problem...screen and keyboard and touchpad all locked out....shut down with the ON button. On restart it gave me the 3 beeps every 5 sec with an ALL BLACK screen...no hard disk whirring, either. I don't know how to do cardiac massage on an iMac. Is it dead? Is it the processor? Is it the video card? Is it the hard disc?Â

I was having problems before the battery sign desided to display an 'X'earlier in the day the system was not regestering the trackpad's 'click'I spoke to an apple support guy and it was sorted in about a half after a few tries of some restarting and command holding about a couple of hours later the same 'click' problem thought it'd bloody come back! and so i tried to repeat the restarting and command holding to see if i could get my book going by myself...but then the moment i restarted the book the fan sound (a sound i had never heard my macbook make before) was there, loud, and i knew somthing was not right. My IMac (intel) usually goes straight to my desktop when it is switched on. Normally only asking for a password if it sat idle for some time. Today it has gone straight to a password box, which when I enter my password it doesn't accept it. When it is not accepting the password it goes to a black screen (prior to which it has a very very dark green hue to the screen for a second).
I have tried inserting the Snow Leopard disc, both with and without holding down the command key. I have also tried holding down the command, option and P & R keys. These give the chimes every few seconds. I have done this allowing it to chime up to 10 times, but once I release the keys it still goes back to the password box. Is there an over-riding password I can enter? Or something else I can do to get past this?
