Just retired my G3-333 MHz (Gossamer MT). Had two (250 GB SATA) HD?s running 10.4.11. Put one in my ?New? G5 2.0 GHz Duel Core, which also has a 250 GB HD running Leopard. I have thousands of MS Word & PDF documents stored on my G3 drives. When I drag & drop my documents onto the Leopard drive ? their blue, white, red, colored icons are transformed into a bunch of ?non-descript? almost translucent icons. This really sucks ? One should be able to distinguish various types of documents at a glance! Does anyone know how to get the icons for Adobe PDF & MS Word documents, which were standardized between OS 8 and OS 10.4.11, to appear ?normal? in the Leopard OS? Is there a ?Preferences? setting or a ?Third Party? software fix for something like this?

My iMac keeps dropping internet connection. This has only been a problem since installing Lion, it often tells me there is no connection when my iPhone and MacAir work perfectly so i know its not the broadband itself. I also get the message that my network configuration has changed.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy Lion OS 10.7.3 iMac just does not seem to be able to hold a stable connection with my home wifi network. After around ten minutes, sometimes more, sometimes less, usually when I've gotten up to do something else, the wifi is lost. It stays "connected" to the network (ie the wifi bars are black) but no internet comes through. Every time this happens, I turn WiFi off and reconnect and it fixes it every time, but it is still extremely inconvenient and troublesome to have to redo this constantly.

Deleted all wireless accounts. Checked the router. This makes me want to drop Apple (new iMac user...not a good start). This is very intermittent, and only happens on my iMac, not my laptop or iPad. Anyone wanna buy a really great iMac that ***** when you try to go online? (haha...actually just want this crap to work)

I have an iMac (without an Airport Base). It is connected to a Sky router through an Ethernet cable but still with wireless capabilities. The internet connection keeps dropping out at regular intervals throughout the day to the point that my partner may just throw it out the window! The router lights still show it is connected as does the wifi signal at the top of the screen. Our iPhones still work even when the Mac drops off.

It seems to happen randomly...sometimes it's there, sometimes not and I must go to Networking icon and all the steps to reconnect!. (My iPad2 and IPhone are not having this problem...or perhaps their 3G has kept me from noticing.)

Since last week my iMac (Early 2009, OS 10.7.3) has been dropping its connection to the Internet. I'm using a router connected to an Airport Extreme and connect to it via WiFi. I tried connecting via Ethernet cable from modem to iMac but it would drop the connection entirely, which is why I had been connecting via WiFi. I have no problem with my other devices (iPad, iPhone and MacBook, this one with 10.7.2 installed), they connect immediately to the Internet and all, even the iMac, are able to connect to each other.Â
I already tried restaring the Airport Extreme, zapped the PRAM, reset the SMC, repaired permissions, disconnected the router and Airport from the power source and it still won't connect. Last time this happened, my iMac went to sleep and dropped the Internet connection after waking. I put it back to sleep and woke it using the power button as someone had suggested in another post, that helped and the connection was reestablished. This morning the iMac it was working fine, did not go to sleep at any time and suddenly dropped the connection, which I haven't been able to restore since.Â

At least 2-3 times daily my brand new Imac drops the connection to my home network- I have tried to reboot my airport extreme- my ipad and iphone and nest thermostat do not have these issues of dropped connections. As soon as I click the pale wireless signal at the top of the imac, it finds my home network and joins again, but it is a drag to have to redo this every time I want to stream music around the house or check my mail. All of my updates are current.

Every 2-20 minutes, my iMac is dropping, then instantly resetting my wifi connection. The actual wifi drop lasts no longer than 5 seconds, and instantly reconnects itself with no input from me... the problem is it completely interrupts any downloading, streaming, gaming, or anything else I might be doing that requires a constant internet connection. It seems to drop off just long enough to stop the connection, then it resets all on it's own.
I'm currently using a mid-2011 27 inch iMac intel core i5 3.1 ghz processor w/ OS X Lion 10.7.3. I have a Linksys router and a GCI issued modem, unsure of the brand as there are minimal markings on it. The internet/tv service (run by GCI) is smooth throughout the rest of my home, and no other items we own connected to the net seem to have the same problem...
I have tried soft resets on both the modem and router. I have restarted my machine several times and re-added the network location and wifi connection to my computer. I have unplugged both modem and router to let those reset and have unplugged and reconnected my coax cable for several minutes as well. No time of day seems to work well, and it's becoming quite difficult to work and do other fun functions like stream television or game

I upgraded to Lion after its release and ever since then my wifi has been driving me crazy. The wifi disconnects, and when I click on my network I get the error that the connection timed out. I'm always forced to turn the wifi off and then back on. It happened a ton, and consistently. It's extremely frustrating especially when I'm in the middle of a movie on my Apple TV and my iMac loses its internet and interrupts the show. Sometimes it happens three or more times during one show. So I decided to do a clean install of Lion. I made sure all my important documents were on my Hard Drive and even wrote a list out of every application that I use regularly. Then I completely reformatted my hard drive and did a clean install of Lion.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI managed to get Site2Site VPN working between two different networks/office buildings using the guide from apple.com. One network server/gateway is 192.168.0.1 and the other is 192.168.1.1, everything works, every client can see every client and every client can see every serverSo far so good. But what I can't do is ping from Mac server one (192.168.0.1) to the other mac server on the other network (192.168.1.1) and vice versa. The VPN Site2Site option is great and very easy to set up, I only need to resolve this last?

I have a new iMac purchased in Q1 2014 and connect my G-Grive to it via an Apple Thunderbolt to Firewire 800 adapter. My iMac runs 24x7 and this FireWire 800 hard drive connection drops out on a regular basis - I'd say maybe once every week or so leading to a dismounted drive and an unavailable iTunes library. I have a slightly newer USB3 G-Drive which is connected by the USB socket next to the TB socket on my iMac. This one doesn't drop out/dismount. I cannot tell if it is a software issue or a physical (cable movement issue), the plug has never been out and I can't deliberately disconnect it at will by wobbling the cable/plug.
So, evidence and experimentation suggests the physical connection is not the issue. This problem has only come about after switching from a physical FW800 connection (my old iMac) to working via a TB adaptor (my new iMac). I'd rather not replace with more USB3 G-Drives (lack of free ports) and I'm not sure if I want to invest in a TB drive if the connections cannot be relied upon. I've seen lots of complaints of TB-FW800 connections dropping on MacBooks but did not see a specific solution. .

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have close to 30 sites in my keychain, but one will not remember login info. When I had first joined the site, it worked fine. Unfortunately it had not synched my login info using the cloud to my iPod touch. I had of course forgotten the recommended suggested password (letters, numbers & symbols), and so had a password request sent to my phone. Again unfortunately the cloud did not resend the password to my computer, so I just ended up creating my own easy to remember password. It was recalling the strange passwords, but wouldn't put my password into my mac. It also began to stop asking to save passwords from that site altogether. I ran keychain first aid, & I trashed the Keychain Access.plist. I didn't reset my Default Key Chain button, because I don't to loose all of my saved info.
