View 3 Replies View RelatedI have recently got some awesome collection of font from URL but as first time mac user i dont know how to install them on my mac book . I need to install them as quickly a possible for my designing project .
I just started work as a graphic designer and the company uses macs. I am used to using a PC platform. Anyway, the company bought a new IMac, from my understanding it is Mac 10.6 known as leopard I think? Anyway, the company saved all their fonts onto the database for me to install into my workstation. I tried installing it, and most of it did install. When I opened adobe illustrator and opened up a formor project it couldn't find a font, Century Gothic. So I tried downloading it and saving it from the other stations, but it wouldn't install. I then renamed it to century gothic.tff. Restarted my mac then it worked. Next day I tried opening a different project, and now it can not find the font Friz Quadrata.
I tried doing the same process I did for the Century Gothic font, it didn't work. I tried changing the file extension, I tried saving the whole fonts folder from the other station (as the files are .ffil and .lwfn) so I thought this might work. It didn't. I even tried downloading font finagler, that didn't work either. So I figure to ask Mac directly on how to solve this problem, as I cannot start any of the projects given to me which needs to be started ASAP. So basically I need a solution on how to transfer ALL/most of the fonts from the other mac to this new mac. There are about 600 fonts I think, or something close to that number.
If I download fonts from the internet from sites like it doesn't install them. I was able to do it originally when I first bought this mac book 2 yrs. ago, but recently when I download them and try to install, they never show up in font book.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI have a macbook that is about 2/3 years old - works fine and does the job. However i was babysitting a few weeks ago and took my laptop and nail varnish/remover with me all in a bag. (yes i regret it now, but they only live next door, i was intending to take it out when i got there but they are crazy little kids)Â I took my laptop out the next morning to find that i had a massive purple stain on the front of my laptop. The nail varnish remover had leaked onto my macbook but fortunately it wasnt alot, (the bag wasnt wet or anything). It's purpley colour like the remover and you can tell it has burnt it as you can feel the dented outline when you rub your fingers over it. Its not done any damage to the laptop itself which i am EXTREMMMELY happy about. I just have a very large purple blob on my mac thats all. I was wondering if anyone could help me?? Â
I've tried magic eraser a little but i didnt want to use that too much on the shiny part as it says so on tutorials not too ect. I tried general cleaner. I dont know what to do?! Dont know how much it would be to get it replaced or whatnot.

I recently went on a trip to Poland with my Macbook air (OS 10.7.3). As I tried to connect to a wifi network, I found out that its WPA password included a Polish letter (ł), which I couldn’t type in any way. I tried setting Polish as system language, copying and pasting from Word, using both the character and keyboard viewer, but with no results.

fonts must be messed up in Snow Leopard. Some system things display strange fonts. For example, my user name in upper right hand corner of the screen doesn't look right.ALso, the font on the "tabs," in Safari is not correct, and I can compare it to other SL computers.

When I download a font, I drag & drop it in to Macintosh HD - Library - Fonts. I basically want to restore the fonts in this folder to the ones that came with my Mac, so I can start from scratch, and catalogue where I get fonts from, make sure they're from a reputable source etc. So how do I do this? I thought I could restore from Time Machine, but I can't, as I imported everything across from my old iBook & the fonts were messy on there too. I tried logging in as Admin rather than my user, but they're not "original" there either. I also wondered if I could do it from the original install disk, but it looks like I'd have to reinstall the whole system, which I don't want to do! I could manually delete the ones that shouldn't be there if anyone has a list of the originals..?Â

I have a set of fonts that I need to use for a client's logo design. When I switched over from my MBP to this newer iMac, not all of the fonts in the font book are working. I've gone to several tech blogs and inquired about the issue and have gotten good advice but none seems to be the answer to my dilemma. In the FontBook, I can see the following:Â
New Peninim
Ariel Hebrew
Corsiva Hebrew
Raanana
IsraelÂ
But, when I try to engage them in either Photoshop or Illustrator, nothing but blank boxes seems to come up.

I recently installed a couple font management tools and ever since I have noticed that I don't have the full list of default system fonts. Below is a screenshot of what I have. I notice that there are a lot of missing fonts that should be there such as Georgia, Trebuchet, Verdana and many more. Is there a way to reinstall them or restore them? I tried the restore Standard Fonts option in Font Book but says no problems encountered. I also downloaded a program called Pacifist but don't know what to do next.

I have been sent a zip folder containing a whole suitcase of fonts, with what appears to be screen and printer fonts. However when I open the zip folder all fonts are losing their extensions and so are not registering as fonts. I have two files within the folder which say the extensions are ".suit" but the rest are showing the "unix executable file" symbol. Not all of the "unix" type files are the same kind of file as (for example) one says Omnes Black and one says OmnesBla, so I would guess these were both the printer font AND the screen fonts corrupted to another format. Our client keeps resupplying the zip file and I always get the same result. The zip file is being created on a Mac, but I have now tried unzipping it on OS9, OS 10.3.9, OS 10.6.8, OS 10.5.8 and a PC, each time the fonts are not registering as proper font files and so are unreadable.

I inserted the ssd and used the mac osx install disc. I partitioned the ssd. At this point I went into utiities and selected restore from backup. I want to install a SSD (preferably 512 GB) in my mid 2011 27in iMac. The local Apple Authorized Service Center tech said, "Apple has not released the mounting kit needed for correctly installing the drives" Â
It's hard for me to believe that Apple would not think that people would want to upgrade their Macs after purchase. I'm not one for "hack" jobs and I heard that without the proper connectors the fan will go into overdrive and I don't want that.

So when I go to configure an iMac, apple wants to charge me $600 for a 1TB ATA Hard Drive + 256 Solid State. I'm pretty sure that's way over priced, and am not sure why apple is charging that much. If I just buy an iMac with the minimum memory can I install my own Hard Drive and SSD?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a 1.83 ghz intel mac mini. it has a busted internal cd drive, i use a sony dl dvd burner and 2 external hard drives. I have a retail copy of snow leopard. In the instructions, the guide says sl will install from an external optical drive. Heres what I have tried so far.
Installing from external optical drive- when i try this it goes through the normal verifications, i agree to eula, when i get to the grey screen with spinning apple, after a few minutes a "no" sign pops up, like a no smoking sign and my computer restarts and takes me to the login screen.
I thought maybe it was a disk space issues so i backed up, erased some items and freed up about 20 gb, giving me 30 gb of free disk space. tried again with installation and same thing happens.
next i went into disk utility and verified and repaired permissions, which was a lot, tried again and same thing. next i verified disk. disk is ok.
next i started thinking perhaps its the disk. so i tried to install sl on my moms unibody macbook. installation went fine, she is running 10.6 like a champ.
So then i decided to try a remote installation. i unplugged all usb devices, including the dvd burner and ran the remote install assistant. im using and ethernet cable connection, with the 2 computers plugged directly to each other, and i can browse both computers files from one another. when i restart the mini with the assistant running on the macbook, when i hold down option to select the start up device, the only option listed is starting from the mini's own hard drive and not the macbook.
I've tried everything i could think out with asking. But now i would really like some. If any one has any suggestions, i am all ears. Im gonna be heading for school now, and will respond with what ever I can after 10pm pacific.
I have an Intel iMac running under Lion 10.7.3. and cannot use FaceTime, which never worked anyhow, since it does not accept any of my 3 Apple ID's, which otherwise work perfectly fine. I uninstalled FaceTime assuming that there was a fault in it and tried to reinstall from the Apple Store, where it shows that I own a copy. But reinstall tells me that my OS X version is too new.
Info:iMac (24-inch Mid 2007), Mac OS X (10.7.3), FaceTime cannot be reinstalled
After I have updated Safari, the installed windows 7 was lost. Where can I find it? Do I have to re-install it again.
