View 1 Replies View RelatedIs there an Apple Program equivalent to Photodex Pro-Show Gold?
My friends have PCs and are able to produce great slide shows with every slide having a different timing to fit in with the music.
I have searched many Apple options and have bought 2 programs but haven't been able to find anything as easy to use and reliable. I spent 2 hours working with one program then when I saved and replayed the show, many of the timings were altered.
Snow Leopard's abandonment of Creator Code metadata, used to open a file with its creating application, has some users are worried that Apple has killed off a core Mac-centric feature. Instead, Apple has invented a superior alternative for the old Creator Code in order to support a variety of new features. Here's why, and what the new Uniform Type Identifiers offer. What is a Creator Code?
Back in the early 80s, Apple developed a variety of unique conventions to make the Macintosh intuitively easy to use, almost to a magical extent. One example pertains to invisible file metadata that helped the system identify documents using Type and Creator Codes. Each file was tagged with both a Type and a Creator, allowing the system to distinguish between applications that could open a file and the default application that should open the file. The Finder could also use this invisibly associated file metadata to present custom file icons for different files of the same type but created by different applications, such as two JPEGs, one saved by Graphic Converter and the other by Photoshop..............
Will OS X Mountain Lion be free???

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.3), OS Lion
I have a 2009 imac running intel core duo 2.66ghz processor, 4gb ram and 256mb graphics. It currently runs os x 10.5.8 and I wish to upgrade it to the latest operating system (lion?) I recently purchased a macbook pro 3 inch running lion. A friend told me I'd be able to upgrade my imac too as 'apple doesn't charge people twice.'
1) Is this true? and if so, how do I obtain the free upgrade?
2) should I wait until mountain lion is available?
3) Is the computer going to be capable of running the latest OS or will it need a ram upgrade?
I need to get windows 7 for bootcamp, for work. I don't want to spend the money I will if I have too. But I would rather not.

I bought my Mid-2011 iMac a few weeks before Lion came out...so I was eligible for a free upgrade. Now, unfortunately, I am having problems with my iMac so I want to reinstall the OS. However, I only have the Snow Leopard disc to reinstall. Can I still upgrade to Lion for free? Would it be in my App Store as I already upgraded so I can just re-upgrade?

Moving from a PC to a Mac...plugged in Free Agent drive, all seemed well but files say they are locked when I try to open them and I can't open anything but read-only or copies. Any suggestions on how to "unlock" them? I'm completely new to Mac.

I've backed up all the contents of my computer to a 1TB external hard drive connected by USB (LaCie Porsche). Time Machine is working perfectly with it! Now, I want to erase lots of files from the startup disc or do whatever I need to do in order that I might have way more available memory on the startup disc. I need to know that my backups of iPhoto are truly on the external drive, and then I need to do something so that the memory available on my desktop is maximized.

I forgot my administrator's password for my home computer. I purchased office 2008 for mac with a free upgrade to office 2011. I upgraded it to 2011 when it came out (late 2010/early 2011). I have since made a new password and forgotten what it is. The mac tells me to reinstall my microsoft office but when I do, with the office 2008 disc, it tells me I have MORE RECENT SOFTWARE and to use that. I did it on line and cannot find it again.Â

Yesterday I apparently interrupted Disk Utility when it was erasing free space, which was far bigger than the used space on my beloved black Macbook. Apparently the free space, because the program was interrupted, is seen as one honking big file.
This morning, the disk utility tells me that I have zero free space. Verify says I do not need repair. I checked because of all my sudden problems (I am unable to save anything to the laptop, unable to cut-and-paste . . . and unable to erase free space again since there officially isn't any, etc.).
Trash is empty.
I tried (based on advice in another thread) to reboot with the installation disk so as to use its disk utility program, but the installation disk menu offers "install" etc. but not (as far as I can tell) just access to its disk utility.
I plugged in my Timemachine external drive [WD MyBook], but the most recent "save" there has the "restore" button greyed out. That's scary.
I'm willing to do a complete re-install if necessary, but I hope that one of you has a simpler solution that will simply get my free space back.
I have often heard that "free ram is bad ram" or "free ram is wasted ram", and this is particularly true in Mac OS X, and by extension iOS and Linux like OSs, yet it is not true of Windows (or is it?)
Why is it true of some OS's and not other OS's?
So what else can I do? Is there anything I should do to free up more RAM or something like that?
I did notice that when I'm offered the choice between HD and standard res... the standard res is watchable.... but still not perfect.

View 13 Replies View RelatedI'm not sure if this is going here or in the iPod Touch section, so I decided to just post it here.
I got an iPod Touch this Christmas, and when I was going to connect it to my computer, it said that the system was too old. I think you need to have Mac OS X version 10.4 (or 10.4.10) and I have version 10.3.9
I have searched everywhere, and gone through 20 pages in the iPod Touch section, but no one seemed/seems to have this problem.
And because I don't have version 10.4(.10), I can't use my iPod.. I can only turn it on and off.
My folks have recently cancelled our houses comcast internet bill in order to wait out the bad economy by making sure they have enough money. Ive been stealing my neighbors internet recently, but its not enough; and always crashes in 30min. of making use of it. I have a 20' ethernet cable, a comcast modem, and a netgear wireless router (not sure what model) before the bill got cancelled i was connect through the internet via airport. I have an iMac g5 9.0ghz /w 512MB RAM I currently have 10.x Leopard installed.
Is there any tips you guys have for me to connect? i only have 1 phone jack which is about 22' from where my computer is positioned in my bedroom. (Obviously thats not going to go too well because ill have cables running all over my house).
So what I was thinking, is that i could set up my cable modem and wireless router, put a phone jack cable from the jack to the modem, then turn on my router so i could get a wireless DSL signal to my computer and dial up for free without any cables in the way.
