CD wont eject from drive?

I can't eject a DVD from my disk drive nor can I play the DVD? It freezes up my cpu.

I have a portable drive that I plugged into my imac (2010, OS 10.6.8) and as it was starting up and being found by the imac, the usb cable slipped out so the drive was not properly dismounted, but a file remained on my desktop. I cannot delete or eject this 0Kb file. I tried to rename the file and got an error code -8058. I cannot move the file.
fyi, I replugged in the portable drive and it shows up separately (I've since renamed it) and works fine. When I eject it, the other file still remains.
I can't eject the CD from my iMac. There is no icon representing the CD on my desktop and the CD is spinning constantly

When I insert a CD or DVD into my iMAC superdrive it is recognised and will play but then it is not displayed in the finder sidebar. consequently I cannot eject the disc. The only way to eject is to restart the machine.

I'm not a total newbie with mac and computers in general, but I cannot get the one and only super drive to eject... yes, I have hit the eject button, it shows the eject icon in the screen and nothing...how can I get the thing to eject?
View 17 Replies View RelatedI have a iMac (iMac7,1) Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz that is 5 years old. The MATSHITADVD-R UJ-875 (DB09) Superdrive has been replaced once already. It is malfucntioning again. I was wondering if there were any troubleshooting steps I could take that I am unaware of before I replace the drive.
It seems to be a mechanical issue. The drive attempts to eject a disk - it sound like the disk is ejecting, yet it cannot. It keeps attempting to eject the disk over and over again. It has happened with a number of different disks, often after some time the disk will eventually eject. This time this one seems to be stuck for good. [URL]

On the G5 and Intel iMacs, is there any manual eject (paper clip or other probe) on either of the optical drives, Combo or Superdrive?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've got a PowerPC G5 running 10.4. After four years of dedicated service, my Superdrive gave out, so I bought a Sony drive (SONY DVD RW DRU-842A in profiler) to replace it. Here's the trouble:
Any time the machine goes to sleep with a disc in the drive, it won't eject when I wake it up. I have to restart, then eject. Other than that, the drive works beautifully. If this question has been answered elsewhere, please redirect me there, sorry for the repost.
Speaking of sleep, when I put the machine to sleep through the menu it goes fully to sleep (no fan/other noise). But when it goes to sleep on its own, I can still hear the machine churning away. Any ideas? My roomate has a newer Mac Pro that doesn't do this.
after I get a bad burn (it's very rare, but it does happen), I get a stuck DVD. I can't open the DVD tray unless I either restart the computer or wait a &$?# long time before it gets done trying to read an unreadable DVD. Even the terminal won't allow me to open it. Is there a way to get the DVD tray opened "immediately"? Sucks to think that we don't have control over that.

View 1 Replies View RelatedEvery time I used a USB drive, I am told that it can't be ejected because a program is using it. Sometimes it says the finder is using it (it shouldn't be: if the finder is using it it is only listing it as a drive). Relaunching the finder using "force quit" doesn't work: it just changes the message to "one or more programs may be using it". Shutting down every single program - none of which are using it anyway. I eventually get a force eject option, which I use, though that comes with a warning that force eject may damage files.
Running Yosemite on a late 2010 Air (though I get the same problem on my 2011 Macbook pro).

Are there any specifics I should know about the second drive bay? I'm planning on buying just a really fast CD-ROM drive to put in there - can I get any ole' one? I noticed that the Apple drive does not have a faceplate - does this mean I have to remove the faceplate from whatever drive I get? Are there drives available that already have no faceplate?
I never used Mac OS X with more than one optical drive - how does opening a drive work? Does the eject button open both drives? One at a time?
Supposedly, the external is in use and cannot be ejected, but i don't think it's in use. I've only recently been encountering this problem, and i have no idea why. I've tried quitting every application, but it still claims to be in use.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI just got an external LaCie DVD burner (long story). It works great, but as of right now I can apparently only eject it by right-click > eject or drag it to the "trash." Is there any way to allow me to just use the button on the drive or tie it to the eject button on the keyboard when it's connected, or even another key command like Opt-Eject?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a MacBook with a storage drive connected via firewire. All was fine but now suddenly it won't show the contents of the folders and it won't eject. I tried dragging it to the trash, and I also tried the eject arrow in the list of drives. I tried to open Disk Utility, but it just spins. I also tried to throw something else away in the trash, and the trash folder will not take it.
Normally if something like this happened, I would just restart and hope it rights itself, but I don't know if I can do that with a storage drive still attached. (On another occasion, the storage drive got pulled out improperly and luckily I was able to repair it with Disk Utility.)
my mid-'09 whitebook has a dvd in it that will not eject. there's no disc image on the desktop and i can't eject from the dvd player either... i've tried shutting down and booting up, and restarting this is my first issue with this computer so i'm pretty worriedis there any way i can force it to eject?
View 3 Replies View RelatedAs a new IMac user (24 hours) I decided to copy my entire CD collection on to my computer. I now have a CD that is stuck in my IMac. It doesn't read/display at all, nor will it eject when I select this option from ITunes. Is there a way to manually eject the disc or another way that I may not be familiar with given my lack of apple experience? I have over 500 CDs to copy and I have only done 10 or so when this occurred.
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy MacBook Pro has had trouble burning DVDs and I noticed that there is a virtual DVD drive. How do I get rid of it? It's not on my desktop, but it messes up Toast and iDVD. Here is a screenshot of Disk Utility.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I go into Itunes, I cannot eject drive.
When I look at Toast settings, it says that there's no recorder.
When I press eject on the keyboard, it doesn't.
But when I press alt, command ... I and O (on restart) it opens.
If I need to reinstall the DVD driver, how do I do this please? (Because I inherited this Mac from my previous company; and don't have any software cds).
How do I eject a CD that won't come out of the optical drive on a MacBook Pro . I have tried the ejcct key on the keyboard. There is no longer an eject disk on the drop down menus.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a 1T Western Digital Auxiliary disk drive, and back up my system about every ten days. When complete I go to Finder and select the eject icon next to the drive. The light changes on the drive, and the eject icon disappears, which I interpret to mean the ejection is complete--but when I disconnect the cable, I get a scolding message from OS X saying the device was not properly ejected.
