I would like to upgrade my 17" Powerbook G4 to wireless n, but I'd like to upgrade the internal airport extreme card instead of using a PC Card adapter.
Are there any options for this? Will this airport extreme card from early model MBPs work?
my specs:
17" pwrbk Hi-res
1.67 G4
late 2005 model: Powerbook 5,9
What is the best and cheapest way to get an airport extreme card? I do not want to do it myself. I just want to know the cheapest and fastest way, because I don't want to spend to much time away from my baby.

I gave a fella a hand the other day by pointing him to a post I had on my site. I thought I'd list in in a new thread for others to see too. So if you want to add 802.11n to your Mac Pro, see how I did it. [URL:...]

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased an older model Airport Extreme on Ebay. Came in the original box and looks as though it was never used. I installed it on my G5 single processor which is equipped with an Airport Extreme card. I get my internet from Cox Communications in Tucson via a Scientific Atlanta modem. When I do a diagnostic, it shows everything related to the Airport is green. But, it doesn't work and I have no connection to the internet. What am I doing wrong?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI bought a MacPro two weeks ago and have just taken delivery of the bluetooth module and Airport Extreme card design specifically for the Mac Pro. I've put the bluetooth card in and connected up the cable that has "BT" label on it. I thought it would be same for Airport Card but there's 3 cables to choose from labelled intuitively "1" "2" and "3". All with the same connectors on the end and all taped up together. The Airport Extreme card requires 2xcables to be connected. Anybody out there have a MacPro with Airport pre-installed and can take the side off and have a look at their config for me please? They are supposed to be a service center install hence don't come with a manual, they refer you to the AppleCare Service Source Website.
View 24 Replies View RelatedI currently own a G4 PowerBook running OS X 10.2.8 (archaic, I know) which I use as a word processor. I want to set it up to recieve my friend's 802.11 wireless signal (with his permission), which is sent out by a base station tied to a Windows machine. Two questions I have:
First, will an Apple PowerBook and Airport card be able to receive a signal from a Windows machine (I don't see why not, but...)?
Secondly, I seem to only be able to find the AirPort Extreme card on the Apple Store. Will the Extreme card plug and play with my notebook, or not? Are there any good third-party cards that I can buy that will work well if not?
Will an Airport Extreme card from and ibook G4 work in an iMac G5??
View 1 Replies View RelatedI got a new Mac Pro in December of 2007 that came without an Airport card installed. I'm now looking into getting one to install myself, however I'm a bit confused as to what card to buy. The one available on the Apple website says it is incompatible with Mac Pro's introduced in 2005. So I'm assuming that will not work. I've looked online and have found some like this with model number MB363Z/A.
I THINK this is what I want, however when I enter that model number into google and search a bit I find that some websites have it listed as Airport Extreme Wireless Card for Mac Pro (2008). Now, what I'm wondering is if this will work for my Mac Pro that I got in December of 2007, or not.
As the title says, will the new airport extreme card with 802.11n work in an old iMac G3 capable of adding an airport card? I know I need the card adaptor, but does this new one work fine, or do I need to buy an older version? Also, which old macs would have compatible airport cards?

View 4 Replies View RelatedMy university was tossing an eMac so I decided to take it. I put Leopard on it (10.5) and purchased an Airport Extreme PCI Card (A1026). I followed the instructions here: [URL] to a T, and no luck. System Profiler doesn't recognize the card. So, I decided to take the card out and put it back in while the computer was on. The computer came up with the black screen that says I need to restart the computer; however, upon restart it still doesn't recognize the card.
View 15 Replies View RelatedI decided to get an Airport Extreme Mini PCI-E WiFi Card for my 2x3.2 Quad MP and after looking around for a while found several selling online for between $49.00-$89.00 which I thought is a little high for what after some research seams to be a pretty generic part. Unwilling to throw my money out the window I bought this part on eBay for a total of $20.00 including shipping: [URL] The card arrived today 9 days after the initial purchase. The installation took about 5 minutes and the card appears to be working perfectly. I'm unable to test the N protocol as my router does not support it but the Network Utility seams to recognize the card as supporting it.

Im trying to connect to my Linksys router downstairs which is password protected. The airport sees the wireless network but when I try and connect and insert the password i get a 'connection timeout' message.
I tried to use the assistant also but when it come to inserting the password its says the password is incorrect even though it definitly is correct..
Im relatively new to Mac so please excuse the lack of knowledge.
I called Apple and they were very unhelpful about which airport card is required for the iMac G5 1.6 Ghz. I found a bunch on ebay (A1126) but I think those are for different models.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running a PowerBook G4 15" FW800 (running 10.4.11) which has only ever connected to the internet via an Orinoco WiFi card, and I'm trying to upgrade it to a better card whose signals aren't stopped by a couple inches of walls. So I bought an AirPort Extreme card on Ebay and hooked it up, but it's not working right. I'm hoping for some advice. Note that I don't have an AirPort base station; I have a Linksys router, which the Orinoco card was able to communicate with fine. Anyway, I got the AirPort Extreme card (no software CD included), and hooked it up as demonstrated in this video. My laptop already had some AirPort software on it, which refused to acknowledge the existence of the card.
I then I installed the software available here, which seemed to overwrite the previous set of software; I also ran Software Update. No matter what, the laptop refused to acknowledge the existence of the card. Applications->AirPort Utility, AirPort Admin Utility, and AirPort Disk Utility all turn up blanks. AirPort Utility, for example, just says it's "unable to find any Apple wireless devices". The software that was there before I installed the software linked to above gave a different message. if I do get the laptop to recognize the card, will I even be able to connect to the Linksys without an AirPort base station or something?
I have a Dual 2GHz PowerPC G5 running OSX 10.5.8 and want to have wireless capability, if possible. There does not appear to be a dedicated slot for an Airport Extreme card on the motherboard, so I'm wondering if there's a card that would work in one of the spare PCI slots?

old G5 (ver. 7,3) running 10.5.8 OS and want to add airport extreme card. purchased A1026 card, installed and attached attenae cable and external ant, but the profiler shows "no info" under aiport. am i missing something obvious?

I have a nice clamshell 300 mhz that worked fine, yesterday I tried to install an extreme airport card and now it doesn't start anymore. The power receptacle goes from green to orange in seconds and the computer appears dead, may be I pushed too much the card inside breaking something or may be I should have removed the battery (that is not working anyway), I don't know, what do you think I should do now? May be the logic board is gone?

So this is what I have done so far my desktop is wired to the router running XP the connection is fine and my setup is a WPA, my macbook is running 10.5.6 Lepord my router says the MB is connected to the router but I'm unable to connect to the internet. TCP/IP is set to DHCP my airport says status on, and that it has a self-assigned IP address and may not be able to connect to the internet I've already have my MB set to share web, internet, files & printers on my network. Is there something i missed or i'm doing wrong I called belking and got no problems with the router we used many setup changes and I ran a hardware test on my MB and no problems were found.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI bought an eMac off Craigslist. I really really love it. Its the 1GHz model, it does everything I want it to.
I needed it to have wireless for when I bring it home over the summer (Im at school now and we have ethernet cables) so I bought an airport extreme off ebay for about $20.
I followed the instructions (Held the door down, turned it off, installed it and plugged the antenna in) and turned it back on. No Airport symbol appeared at the top.
I searched a little bit, its running 10.3.9 and so i found it requires a driver (it didnt come with a CD).
I installed the Driver, restarted it and still nothing. I even made sure it was installed properly, and as far as I can tell everything is hooked in ok.
The guy who sold it to me is supposedly sending me an install of Tiger, would that help it recognize it? Im not really placing all my eggs in one basket either that he'll send it to me, any suggestions?
I'm lucky if I can get more than five feet away from my Linksys wireless-G router before the Airport Extreme says it's getting no bars. My son also has an Airport Extreme card in his iMac; connection is always iffy, even though his computer is barely four feet from the router.
Do I need a wireless-N router? Is there no backwards compatibility here (e.g. shouldn't a wireless-G router be able to work with wireless-N Airport Extreme cards?)
