ITunes :: Unauthorize The Itunes On The PC Drive Using A Mac?
Oct 31, 2010
Quite some time back I had a PC that a family member had an itunes library on. When said computer gave out I removed the hard drive and replaced the computer with another Mac. Since my household now only has Macs can I deauthorize the itunes on the PC drive using a Mac? If so, what would be the proper method for doing so?
I recently got a new logic baord in my MacBook, and I think it had messed with my iTunes, because now I can't put new music or apps on my iPhone; so my question is what exactly happens when I deauthorize all the computers? I've had several computers with my iTunes account, and didn't realize I had to deauthorize them.
I transferred all my itunes library to an external hard drive.I had all my songs in itunes and then went to "preferences" and set itunes to look on my external hard drive for my itunes. Then I went to "library" and then "consolidate", and it moved all my library over to my external. I can verify that my songs are all there on my externalHowever, now, itunes won't play any songs of mine. I double click on the song in itunes and it just wont play. There's no error message, there's no exclamation point, it just won't play. Any idea what is goign on? Preferences still shows that my library is directing to the external
I'm running out of space on my harddrive and am wondering. Is there a way to move some of my library to an external harddrive? Like TV shows and movies that I don't need to access all the time. I don't want to delete anything. I don't want to carry around a harddrive all the time.
...now I don't have the same functionality with iTunes. Basically, I can't use iTunes at all anymore as the interface for my music and videos. Once the external drive is mounted, I can navigate through it and play individual songs, but I can't use iTunes to do that. All my previous Playlists show up down the left side of iTunes, but there isn't any music in them.
I downloaded 2 songs yesterday, made a Playlist out of them, and because the path in the Advanced tab of the iTunes Preferences is correct, it automatically added the songs to the external hard drive. I synced my iPod and it was completely erased except for the 2 new songs. Is there a way to use iTunes to navigate my music like I used to when I stored the information on the internal hard drive but keep the information on the external drive? I have a Mac running Snow Leopard and the latest version of iTunes.
My iTunes library has apparently filled my entire iMac (according to the computer I have over 97 days' worth of music). I would like to know 1) how to properly save my iTunes library to an external hard drive and 2) how to use iTunes so that it uses the library on the external drive.
Just transferred my iTunes data from Snow Leopard to Lion ( Both same version of iTunes} and I am getting a message saying the iTunes will no longer sync Photos to my iPhone. Has something been changed as far as photo syncing?

If I have iTunes on an SSD drive (the boot drive in my Mac Mini), can it read the music library on a second rotational hard drive? I'd like not to have the large music library on a 120GB SSD drive.
When importing songs into iTunes, the software by default is set to copy the music files to the iTunes media folder and convert them to .m4a format. This, of course, results in having two copies of each song after the import is done. Before I disable this option I'd like to know what you think are the pros and cons of having this option enabled/disabled.
This is what im trying to do. I have a macbook with 120gb hard drive. thats not enough space from my music collection. So i was wondering how to make itunes run off a external hard drive. I looked around and found was for a PC.
Last night I decided to update to iTunes 9.1.1, via the software update prompt. It prompted me to restart my computer (laptop, Windows Vista). I proceeded to do so, but it got hung up in the log off screen for over 15 minutes. I turned off the computer and came back into the desktop. Tried to load iTunes, but it wouldn't load anymore. Tried to reinstall the software update, but now it's searching for a .msi file that I have no idea about? Anyone have any input as how I can resolve this, and have I lost all of my music in iTunes at this point?
When I go into Itunes, I cannot eject drive. When I look at Toast settings, it says that there's no recorder. When I press eject on the keyboard, it doesn't. But when I press alt, command ... I and O (on restart) it opens.
If I need to reinstall the DVD driver, how do I do this please?(Because I inherited this Mac from my previous company; and don't have any software cds).
I have started ripping dvds and adding to itunes (although not copied to the itunes media library under preferences) but before i go any further, i think i will put all my media on an external drive instead. Is there an easy way to update the path of the files i've already copied to itunes or is it easier to delete what i have already done (approx 200 files) and just re add them to itunes from their new location.
How do i play media files from my external hard drive without transferring the files to my mac hard drive? I have a lot of media files and want to be able to play them soley from my external hard drive.
I have a 30G ipod thats almost full. I have it sync'ed to my MBP so I don't lose any music. But I don't wanna keep it stored on my internal drive, rather an external drive. It takes up too much space. Should I just set the ext drive up as a separate bootable drive, and only sync my ipod when this drive is booted/connected?
I have a Macbook pro which harddrive is getting full. I want to move my itunes library to my network drive and make some room on my laptop. I have an Airport Extreme and a western digital element 2tb partitioned so I can have a time machine on one and crap on the second part.
I used to have iTunes and my external music library on a PC. When I got my Mac Mini, I moved the iTunes app to it and pointed to the library on the PC. After I got a back up drive for the Mac Mini, I ran the Consolidate files option. The files were consolidated into the iTunes directory on the Mac Mini. My usage of the PC became so infrequent that I finally turned it off. Now when I got to play a tune, I get the error: There was a problem connecting to the server "ukasare" (ukasare was the network name of my PC). I click OK and the tune plays. If I then stop playing the tune and double click on it again, it starts playing without giving an error message. The same is true if I do Get Info first. Short of playing every one of the 7200 tunes in my libary
I have uploaded all my music to iCloud so am under the impression I do not need my local files which are all stored on a 4TB (not fun to move around) G-Tech drive.
I cannot run iTunes without the hard drive plugged in, if anybody knows a way for me to play my music through iCloud on just my internet-connected laptop
Info: MBP, Mac OS X (10.7.2), 17", 2.66 GHz Intel Core i7, 8 GB
My old mac died do to Motherboard Failure. I want to move my iTunes from that hard drive to my new Mac. I have the drive in an external housing I just need the how to on moving the iTunes library and combining it with the new iTunes.
Info: MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Yosemite (10.10.1), i7, 16MB Ram
We got a new hard drive. When restoring from Time Capsule, I needed to eliminate restoring music for space. How do I get music from my iphone to the new hard drive. Or, how do I get music from Time Capsule to new hard drive? I also got an external drive to move files to before doing the music restore.
I am trying to copy CDs to my macbook air and I have done this quite a few times before. Suddenly though the attempts fail (on more than on disc). I insert the disc, iTunes reads and displays the tracks on the disc and starts spinning the disc (i.e. I can hear it). The iTunes window shows and initial progress on the first track and then gives me an error message saying it can't read or write to the disc ...
I can't find a thread that addresses my particular problem, so I'm hoping somebody out there can point me in the right direction. I have a 100gb iTunes folder on my MacBook which I wish to transfer to my new iMac. Rather than simply copy it across to the iMac's HD, I would rather copy it to an external HD and then run iTunes from the external HD connected to my iMac. So my question is simply what is the best way to do this. Also, can anyone recommend a great external HD which won't expire after 6 months?
I will shortly be receiving a new i7 iMac to replace my aging Mac Pro. I have a couple of TB of movies and music that I had on an internal drive in the Mac Pro that I used to stream to an Apple TV in another room. Since I am losing all of the drive bays I had with my Mac Pro, I am looking at external drives to use on the iMac. I was wondering how a USB drive would handle streaming movies and music. That is about the only thing that would be on the disk. Would it be fast enough? Or would it stutter? Or should I bite the bullet and go for a fire wire drive? I have a USB enclosure that I can use for it and when my Mac comes I can obviously try it, but was wondering if anyone was doing something similar.
Currently I have my itunes library on an external hard drive that is connected to my AEBS, I have a few things I need to resolve. My external drive is not always on so whenever I go to itunes and download a new tune my library path automagically changes to the default path on my MAC, thus leaving the new downloaded tune on my MAC and not on the external drive! I do not have the space on my MAC to hold my entire itunes library. How can I make sure that my external is always on? I have a mac mini I could hook it up to instead of having it on my AEBS ,would that be a better solution?
Also I have all MAC products (MBP, ipad, iphone4 x2, MAC Mini, Apple TV 2) in the house and I want to make sure that they all can share the itunes library. You guys/gals with large libraries that have multiple devices sharing one itunes library how do you manage your tunes?
