Hardware :: Way To Change The Port Forward Settings
Feb 16, 2010
I have orb installed on my Mac Mini and I'm trying to get the orb iphone app to wake the Mini up when I want to use it. I'm very confused about this whole port forwarding thing. I went to [URL]and entered in the correct info, but it still doesn't wake the Mini up. My question is this. I've configured my Airport Extreme to have 2 networks, one 5GHZ and a 2.4 (both with different names) so that I can use my iphone wifi with it and run the rest of the Macs in the house at 5GHZ. When I go into the airport utility, I only see the main 2.4 one listed on the left column. When I change the port forward settings, are they only being applied to that one, or both the 2.4 and 5 GHZ?
I am having issues with my Dual Band 1TB time capsule for some reason the damn ports won't forward I have enabled the correct settings with the ip address and the ports, but when I use a program to test if the ports are open they are always closed, regardless on pc or mac. Does anyone have a solution to this? I even reset my Time capsule to see if it would work, but no luck.
Here's the deal, I am so frustrated. I am trying to open port 59152 for Transmission on my Macbook Pro. I have the latest releases of everything, I am using an Airport Extreme base station with an older airport to boost my signal/connect my tivo w/out a wireless adapter. I have managed to get it open in the past but there was an update or something a month or two ago and at first it was still open and then it closed. I don't know what changed with the update, all I know is that I did n't change anything.
I have granted permission for Transmission to accept incoming connections on the firewall, little snitch allows it too. I have lighthouse, which worked at first but now I don't even know why I bother having it run. I have the port mapped through the airport utility.
PLEASE don't say to go to portforward.com because they haven't updated the Airport section since Leopard came out, yet every search I do someone repeatedly tells the person needing help to go to [URL]
I am going to attach some screen captures so you can see what I've got going on and maybe point out something I've missed.
forwarding ports to my semi-new iMac. I got my iMac back in September and I've been trying to forward my ports since then but have unsuccessfully done so. I've followed every guide i can find but still i dont know what i've done wrong. I have a Belkin N+ router. I think that I managed to give myself a static IP but from there i can't get anything to forward.
It was drawn to my attention recently by a friend that I may not be getting the speeds I should from Transmission due to my lack of port forwarding. I just want to make it clear that I know nearly nothing about setting up/configuring routers, ports, upnp, static ip, or whatever other jargon is associated with this stuff. Quite frankly, most things to do with routers terrify me.
In the preferences for Transmission it says that my port is closed. In case any of this is relevant I'm using a 2008 model 20" iMac connected wirelessly to an Apple Extreme Base Station, which in turn is connected to a D-Link 502T modem.
I've already gone to [URL] but everything I try seems to not work and confuse me. Every other forum post I've read about this topic has lots of jargon I don't understand, so if it is at all possible I would like somebody to explain how to do this to me as if they were teaching their grandfather how to use a computer for the first time!
If I forward an HTML e-mail manually, it appears the same to the recipient as it does to me, i.e. properly formatted. However, if I forward using a Rule, it appears to get sent as plain text with all the images in the mail as attachments.
why Forwarding should be different when done via a Rule rather than manually? I can't find any settings that may affect this.
I have had my MacBook Pro now for a little over 2 yrs and I was very frustrated I could not change any print options in any application. I know that the Triangle button expands print options screen but when I do, I have only two print choices. It gave me Standard or Page Attributes in Office and any other App it is Standard and Last used settings. I can't print in Draft, Best or other setting because it does not even give them as a choice. I have two high end color photo printers, Canon i9900 and Epson Photo series and an old HP830 series. Any app I tried to print from and the same thing. I tried to capture the options on the choices but it would not grab that part of the image but here is my screen shot. I searched many forums and I still get the same answer so something else is not letting me change things so I figured best to ask since I am a 20 year win user now switched to Mac. Well right after I posted this question, my wife found the answer. I never though to check the application NAME in the print setting screen. Example, in the screenshot I am using Preview. I never thought to hit the up/down arrow next to the Preview label and wouldn't you know, that is were the quality and several other settings were. I felt pretty stupid that it took 2 years to figure this out but if I posted the answer maybe someone else will not have to take as long as I did to change their print quality!
I was using my MBP when I noticed that the display (the built in one) looked a little washed out. To make sure my color profile was set to the correct one, I opened up the display panel in System Preferences. The moment I opened it, the display snapped back to its regular appearance. As far as I can tell, it goes into the washed out version after going to screensaver and coming back, and going into display prefs is the only way to restore it. Anyone seen this before or know how to keep it from doing this?
I need up figure out how to set up forwarding for a few programs I use, however, the Mac I'm using at the moment will be replaced soon with a new one. So I'd like to know if port forwarding settings are saved on the Airport Extreme or the Mac connected to it. If it's saved on the Mac, then I would just wait till I get my replacement to set up port forwarding.
I have Leopard 10.5.4 and I need to connect to it from my iphone. So I installed VNC lite on my iphone but the problem is, to get through the firewall of my uni I need to have a port higher than a certain number. How can I see the port on my Mac and change it from 5900 to sthg else.
I'm currently using crashplan as an online backup service. Crashplan uses port 443 to send its backup data to its servers. I need to figure out a way to differentiate crashplan traffic so that I can create a QoS rule in my router to assign it a low priority, and I'm not quite sure how to do this.
I can't use a mac address, since that would deprioritize the whole computer. I can't use port 443, because that would flag a huge amount of other traffic as well that I don't necessarily want de-prioritized. Currently, crashplan does not offer a way to change the port it uses.
It may sound mad, but I miss the ubuntu look. Is there anyway possible by either the use of applications or changing settings that I can make my mac look a little like ubuntu (all orange and stuff). I'm running os x 10.5 btw, and there doesn't seem to be much way to customize it as far as I can see.
Before I totally loose what little I have in the way of hair on my head.....For the life of me I can not remember how I changed this setting...When you close a application eg. Word.. and when you reopen the application, that last document used always opens aswell. Regardless of what I told the application to open like a completely different document. It goes the same with safari, preview text edit, the list goes on....I dont recall how i stopped it on my old macbook and now i bought this new macbook pro,
Anyway I can control the fans for my Powerbook G4 so it starts to pump air out at an earlier time than 63C? I tried G4 fan control but it never saved the settings (was at default after restart) and not sure if it even worked.
I want to change the settings for Parallels 4, because when I go to configure, it shows that it is currently only using 512MB of ram, and 128MB of video ram. However, I can't change the settings because it is grayed out, so I cant move any sliders...
I'm trying to set it so that all finder folders have to view property 'Snap to grid' enabled... I've done it before, but can't remember how to on my new MBP.
I bought 2 new macs with the new leopard operating system. When i use roxio toast 7.1.3 to export videos i get real grainy sound. I was able to do this fine on my old imac g5 with panther. Do i have a setting that i need to change?
I have QT Pro 7.6.6 installed on a system running 10.6.8. When I try to export a file as a Quicktime movie, the setting button doesn't do anything. I doubt anyone will be able to reproduce this, but here are the steps: - Open a file with quicktime 7 - Go to File > Export... - Change the Export dropdown menu to Movie to QuickTime Movie - Click Options… - Under Video click Settings… That's it. When I click Settings in that last step, the button changes color to indicate that I've click it, but nothing happens. The other buttons (filter, size, settings) on that same dialog box work. As I said, I don't believe anyone will be able to reproduce this, but what I'd like to know is are there any pref files or other files that I can trash to see if it helps? I've already deleted my quicktime preferences, and that did nothing.
Is there anyway to change the listening port for the default website without messing up the server app?? I have a program that need to run on port 80 for ease of use, however lion listens on all ports because of the default website.
I seem to have a problem with my ethernet port not working after a specific location change...I have three locations I used frequently. Let's call them:
1) HomeWireless
2) WorkWireless (used when I'm in meetings)
3) WorkEthernet (used when I'm at my desk)
My general practice is to change locations just before putting my MacBook Pro to sleep, and then it is happily ready for the desired network when it is awoken.I'm not sure what this change in behavior coincided with, but as of ~1 month ago, I am finding that going from WorkWireless to WorkEthernet, my ethernet port appears to be completely dead and I have to reboot the computer to reactivate it (yes, I've checked the cable itself and the wall port at they're OK). I've tried a couple ways of disabling & re-enabling it in software, but I don't get the impression anything actually resets this interface - suggestions are welcome as perhaps I just didn't try the right thing. I couldn't find anything quite the same as "networksetup -setairportpower" for the ethernet port.Oddly, this is not an issue with going from HomeWireless to WorkEthernet. Both HomeWirelss and WorkWireless have the ethernet interface deactivated in the Network pref pane, and perhaps the only notable difference between HomeWirelss and WorkWireless is that I use a static IP on the former and dynamic on the latter.
I have an internal drive I've partitioned. I want to give my kids access to only one partition. When I use the 'get info' on a drive, I get 3 names for access. Me, '(unknown)' and 'everyone'. I cannot access the + and - below. even though the '+' is black and not grey. When I click on it, no list of users appears and the box disappears. It appears taht the finder is re-launched.

I am giving my old G4 iMac 20 (OS X 10.4.11) to a relative and have transferred my files; cleared caches, passwords, etc. and setup selected apps, iTunes songs, and iPhoto pictures for the new user. In order to conclude this iMac transfer, I have several questions:
When I change the Mac account to the new user and make her the administrator, what impact on the settings, iTunes songs, iPhoto phones, etc. whenever I delete my account/administrator?
I'm down to one last change on the DVD region code setting. It boggles me why Apple would do this. I've tried using VLC and it does not work. Not sure if I'm doing it right, there is a brief window that pops up and then closes immediately. There is time indicated and it looks as though the movie would play, however the the window closes right afterwards. I also have DVD Player still opened because if I were to click cancel, the DVD just pops out. Are there any other alternatives I can try or am I doomed to this one setting? I don't have the time, nor want to go through the hassle of completely wiping out the hard drive and OS again.
how I could change my settings so that when I double-click a file, it opens in a new "(default)" application. I have noticed that I can right-click -> open with -> other... -> and click "always open with" but it has never worked once. Where can I manipulate this setting?
I did not have to use smc fan control earlier but ever since 10.6, it seems my notebook does not ramp up the fans until 90C or even higher. In 10.5 I would see the fans to start coming on when the temp got in the 80C range. Anyone else have a similar experience? I was converting a movie to my iPhone using Quicktime X last night and I saw the temp get to 100C before the fans ramped up and stayed at about 6200rpm. I hate to make another cpu temperature thread, but I am trying to see if Snow Leopard had any impact on SMC settings.
(I also did a SMC reset after installing SL and the effects are the same with the fan speed not coming on sooner) I guess now is the time to get the program to control my fan speed. Just sucks that Apple themselves cannot control their own temps
