I finally tired of the QWERTY layout and decided to take my fathers advice and learn Dvorak. It feels a lot more comfortable, so I am ready for the switch. a good tutorial that they have used or tried with success? Specifically one that works well with Leopard? I am using a spare keyboard with a Dvorak arrangement with me MBP.
View 5 RepliesSo, I'm helping someone who created a site in iWeb make some changes and I'm finding it very difficult to do using iWeb. Considering I've never really used it before, I'm sure my lack of knowledge is a huge obstacle.
Can someone direct me to a good iWeb tutorial? Is it possible to see or edit the raw HTML through iWeb?
I've seen a few threads regarding changing apple keyboards to the 'dvorak' stup. I looked into it a little bit, and was thinking about trying it out just for fun. I type about 70-80 words per minute with the qwerty setup.
What are the main advantages of dvorak, and how long does it take most people to learn? Would it be worth me mastering, even though I am pretty fast on a regular keyboard?
I use the Dvorak keyboard layout on my MacBook Pro, but like to use the Dvorak-Qwery Command option, which means that Cmd+* uses the Qwerty layout (When I try to use Dvorak for Cmd, I always end up pressing Cmd+Q when I don't mean to).
This works great in every app I've tried so far, except for one: Microsoft Word (and possibly the other Office apps as well). Initially, I dismissed it as a problem with Word 2004, and figured it would be fixed in 2008. I was mistaken - kind of.
Anyone knows a good WebCam for the Mac Pro ? as i heard most of the webcams has problems with mac OS .

Most scanner companies don't put an emphasis on making good Mac drivers, and I know a lot of printers and scanners are not compatible with Macs running Snow Leopard. Can anyone recommend a good scanner that has a solid, updated driver and great support for scanning film negatives?

For the MBP I know that it differed based on different wifi cards used in diffirent revisions.
I installed google chrome for mac and love it, it looks sick and its fast. Oh but theres one problem, youtube or any video site wont work on it
I just installed safari 4 and it completely does not work. It will load a site and I cant do anything on it. Nothing clicks, I cant scroll, nothing. Its not frozen, I can move it around my desktop and go under the preferences, but I literally cant use it.
I have tried so many now .... Here is what I want/need:
1) Multiple accounts
2) instapaper/read it later integration with links
3) easy marking of "read" tweets
4) This is the most important: I want to be able to place different people I follow into groups, like I was with seesmic for windows ... for example, I can put some people into a "tech" group and some into a literary" etc ... Why is this so difficult to find?!?!

I'm starting my career in networking configuration (basically configuring routers & switches) and need advice on a good serial terminal app. Since Terminal that ships w/ Mac OS X doesn't deal w/ serial ports, I've had to resort to using apps like Zterm & QuickTerm. Both of those haven't been updated in years, and they don't really have a "Mac OS X"-ey GUI goodness about them.

I own a wireless printer already that has wireless built in, and would really like to have my A3 printer wilress but I'm having trouble finding a good adapter ( printer server) that is cheap ( i.e. a little more than a good quality USB cable )
Any ideas/reccomendations as to where I can get one ?
o iTunes is no "GOOD" music player - iTunes is yet another player that can only handle a few file formats/codecs and cause of that is utterly bull.

I have looked at ichat and like it but it doesn't work with many of the above services. Also, I have seen some clients that may work with msn but chat only, not video. I want to be able to use video whenever possible.

Im going on a big roadtrip this summer and would like to make up a nice travel itinerary to put my lady at ease.
I'm looking for a good (preferably free but beggars cant be choosers) Subversion client for Leopard. Currently I am using ZigVersion, which runs fine and is free but it regularly gets confused and does horrible things to my repository, or gets itself into a loop trying to check the status of items which dont exist and other horrible things.
I have searched around (here and general googling) and there are several clients but they either seem to be hideously ugly, old or missing features. I would really like to take a look at Versions but as yet it does not seem to exist! Whether it will make an appearance seems to be unknown.
Does anyone have any suggestions for what they use, or which they find to be the best? Ideally I'd like it to be a nice modern leopardy (is that a word?) app, and free, but more important than that I would like it to work. Properly.

Is there a plugin for iMovie to fix this or something? I would you Final Cut, but my computer is slow enough, and adding heavy video-editing applications like that would not be good. Especially since I've had to replace my hard drive twice in the past year.

I was on youtube and I saw a gentleman who was sharing his desktop in the video and in the lower right corner there is a small box that showed him. It was a tutorial. I would like to do something like this for a school project. I want to be able to share my screen and still have others be able to see me. However, I was trying to google it and couldn't find what I was looking. I tried typing in "screen sharing and webcam". That didn't work and tried to rephrase it a few times!! Can anyone help me? My Macbook (10.6) is messed up right now. It won't boot. I suspect it's RAM-related, but I don't have the time/tools available to fix it at the moment.
It can, however, boot into Single User Mode. I was just curious if there's a way to access wifi while in Single User Mode, so I can at least use elinks.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have recently gone cold turkey on QWERTY in favour of the Dvorak keyboard layout, to see if it's really all that it's cracked up to be. However one thing really bugs me, and that is when entering my password in the log-in window, the keyboard remains in QWERTY mode. This is especially annoying because I have actually switched the keycaps on my keyboard to the Dvorak format, so I have to rely on my muscle memory to type my password in QWERTY when I'm logging in after a restart.
Does anyone know how to fix this so that the log-in window is in Dvorak format as well? I am the only user of this computer, so if a fix exists that applies to all users, well, that doesn't matter - as long as I can still undo it later on if I decide QWERTY is better after all. (basically, I want to make the Dvorak layout a system-level default rather than just a user-level default)
