Hardware :: Time Capsule Back Up Failure

Dec 11, 2008

Just invested in a TC as my MBP had to go in for repair. Got it all set up and backed up, and was working great.

However, having got the MBP back with new logic board, its stopped working.

Backups just fail, and if I open Time Machine, it doesn't see the back ups made before the MBP went for repair.

The Time Capsule shows up in the finder OK, as being connected, and with the .sparsebundle file visible. It also shows up in Airtport Utility OK.

MacBook Pro :: Restoring OS X Mavericks From Time Capsule After Boot Drive Failure?

Sep 5, 2014

I've had my TIme Capsule for a few years now. Last year I decided to self upgrade the internal HDD to 3TB to actually fit back-ups from my two mac's at home. On my MBP the boot drive failed. It's unfixable unfortunately. how to restore full system on a new HDD on my MacBookPro from TimeCapsule, after boot drive failure?

how to connect the laptop with clean/ empty HDD to MBP and make it boot and install it all from Time Capsule. Moreover, I am not sure how to connect it to Time Capsule, so that it doesn't take 3 days to restore. There is both an ethernet port as well as USB 2.0 one too.

That 'old' boot driveis still barely running, I wanted to hand copy at least my iPhoto Library of 110GB in size, but it just keeps crashing, as the file is so big. I mean, I should have it all back-ed up on TimeCapsule,

Hardware :: How Far Back Do Time Capsule Back Ups Go?

Aug 17, 2009

There are a gazillion Time Capsule threads and my question is probably answered in one of them. But I've been skimming them and can't find it. Also couldn't find it in the Apple support docs. So...Does anybody know how far back TC backups go? Does it just hold on to the latest backup or can you go back awhile to recover your files? For example, if a file was corrupted six months ago, will I be able to retrieve the prior uncorrupted version of it - or just the latest TC backup version of it (which would of course also be corrupted)?

Hardware :: Time Capsule Won't Back Up

Jun 16, 2009

Yesterday was a most joyous day for me as I got my new mac, a 15.4" MacBook Pro, I also bought a 500GB Time Capsule with it to keep everything backed up. Once I set the Time Capsule I went through all the set up stuff and the wireless network works fine as does the wireless printing. But as you can guess from the title of this thread the Time Capsule wont back up. It gives the following message when I try and get it to back up "Time Machine Error: The backup disk image could not be created."

I've tried reseting the Time Capsule, Tried all the different settings, Looked on the Apple website and it still isn't working.

Hardware :: How To Make Time Capsule Back Up

Dec 27, 2010

Now that the new hard drive is installed, I've connected the MacBook to the Time Capsule, but it's not finding the October back up (or any back up). I'm worried that I have lost all of my pictures and music.

Before I lost the hard drive, I was running snow leopard. Now, I have only installed leopard so far. I left my snow leopard disk at work and have not had a chance to grab it. Maybe the different OS has something to do with this...

Hardware :: Time Capsule And Mozy Back Up?

Feb 12, 2010

Im new to the Mac OS having just purchased my Macbook Pro 13 2.53 a few weeks ago. Im learning my way around and trying to figure out how to eventually switch everything over to the laptop. Currently, I use Mozy to back up my PC and all my files. It has worked well over the last few years and saved me a few times after hard drive crashes.

I need a new router so I like the idea of getting a time capsule and adding in an on site back up to my set up. I also want to use it as an archive of old photos and videos so that I dont have to fill up the hard drive on the lap top.

My question is: Can I just have Mozy back up the contents of time capsule thereby backing up time machine back up content and what ever other files I have stored on the time capsule hard drive. This way, if the time capsule hard drive dies, I can get a new one, and restore from Mozy. I understand the danger of backing up a back up. I just want to know if it will work and if anyone is doing this.I know mozy supports networked drives. I asked their customer support if this set up would work and they were evasive.

Hardware :: Option For Time Capsule To Back Itself Up To Another Disk

Mar 11, 2009

Is there an option for Time Capsule to back itself up to another disk? Is this automatic? It just seems dumb to store everything on Time Capsule if it has the same failure rate as a hard drive with no redundancy even though apple says its server grade.

OS X :: Stream Music From Time Capsule To Mac Mini / Hookup Mini To Time Capsule Via USB

Jul 19, 2009

I am planning on purchasing a mac mini solely for the purpose of playing music - it will be hooked up to a hi-fi amplifier and speakers. All of the music that will be on the computer will be in lossless format, which is very large. I will need a lot (320+ GB?) of storage.

I'm wondering if I can cut costs by buying an old 80 GB mini and augmenting its hard drive with a time capsule. I was planning on buying a time capsule anyway, so I could save something like $300. My questions are: would I be able to stream music from the time capsule to the mac mini? Would I be able to import music from itunes directly onto the time capsule? If I hook the mini up to the time capsule via USB, can it serve as a hard-drive, even if my internet is down? Is it going to be much more worth my time to buck up and buy a new 320 GB mini?

MacBook :: Potential [Permanent] Back-light Failure?

May 12, 2012

I got a 2008 MacBook that has a misbehaving backlight. Just recently, the backlight refused to go on for any amount of time.Toggling the brightness from (0) to (1) bar turned it on for varyings amounts of time lower than one second.I continued to toggle the brightness in this fashion to use the computer for a time.Occasionally, the screen would remain lit for a little over a second and dim again.I changed the power settings from power saving to performance and back to power saving. Then, I opened up Chrome and the backlight remained on.It still remains on, as I am somewhat unwilling to test opening and closing the screen.I can, however, now vary screen brightness fully.tl;dr - Backlight was finicky, but is now functioning normally.I suspect the backlight is going to malfunction completely in the near future.

OS X :: Time Machine Restore Failure

Oct 10, 2009

Following my internal startup disk failure (System v. 10.5.8) on a G5 (mid-2004) I am trying to restore it from the Time Machine backup folder Backups.backupdb located on an external 1TB WD called Time Machine Backups also containing additional folders with other backups.

The internal startup now has only Sys. v.10.5. installed from Apples disk.

Using Leopards start-up disk to Restore System from Backup it finds the 1TB WD disk called Time Machine Backups. After clicking on continue the next window reads No Mac OSX System Backup Found.

The backup folder called Backups.backupdb begins on 5-13-09 with 7 day backup intervals to 7-30-09. The month of August only contains 4 backups. The month of September shows daily backups.

Hardware :: Can Time Machine Backup External Drive Attached To Time Capsule?

Mar 11, 2009

I have an external 500gb drive plugged into my brand new Time Capsule. The 500gb drive basically stores my entire library of music and my iTunes points to this external drive.

Is it possible to have time machine backup all information on the 500gb drive to the time capsule, so encase the external drive takes a dump, I don't loose my entire music library? Maybe time machine is already doing this, I am not sure.

Hardware :: Time Machine/Time Capsule/Airport Extreme With Verizon FIOS?

Nov 10, 2009

I will be getting my new Macbook Pro in the near future and am very interested in using Time Machine to wireless back up my data to an external hard drive. I know I can use Time Capsule to do this, but also hear a mention of just getting an Airport Extreme and my own ext. hd. My question is that I have Verizon FIOS Internet and my modem also functions as a wireless router. How would the Time Capsule/Airport Extreme work with this? Is it possible? I do not believe that the Verizon router supports wireless N, and I would like to take advantage of the faster speeds. If I were to connect a Airport Extreme to the wireless router, would I then have 2 routers to choose from and just use the Airport Extreme to use the wireless N? I'm very confused as to how I could make this work.

Hardware :: Time Capsule Vs Base Station - External Drive For Time Machine

Jan 11, 2010

As my 160N series Linksys router neither has gigabit ports, usb connector or dual band networking, I am looking for a replacement.

When it comes to Apple routers I am looking at 2 options - either the base station with an external USB drive or get a 1TB capsule with the buildt in drive and worries regarding reliability.

What I like about the Time Capsule is that it is neat to have all in one, takes up less space and only has 1 plug to attach, while Iike the idea that I can just connect a bigger drive later on the base station solution.

1. Will the connected USB drive function just like the internal drive in the Time Capsule for Time Machine use?

2. Will everything be transparent to Snow Leopard?

3. In case of both units with an attached USB drive - can I control who actually can see the drive and access it?

4. Do they support this DNLA thing so that e.g . PS3 can access an attached drive??

OS X :: Accidently Trashed My Time Machine Back Up Folder - How Can I Transfer It Back?

Sep 8, 2009

I'm an idiot, pleased to meet you.I had 2 external drives connected to my Macbook Pro, both had time machine back ups on...I meant to delete one of these but deleted the wrong one, and dragged it into Trash. On realising my mistake I tried to drag it back out of Trash, as you would normally but after "preparing to copy" for four hours it told me the drive was full...It's a 500gb drive, and the Time Machine back up is the only thing on it, so presumably it's just trying to copy itself when the back up is still present on the drive, albeit in the Trash.

Hardware :: Connect To Time Capsule While Connecting To Wifi Network At Same Time?

Sep 22, 2009

I recently purchased a Time Capsule to use as a wireless hard drive. I connect to the internet both through wifi and ethernet to a educational network that does not allow extra routers, etc, to be added to the network, therefore I can not use the time capsule for this wifi.

I therefore want to connect to my early 2009 MBP17unibody to both the academic internet network for http/pop3/ftp/etc while simultaneously connecting to external hard drive to store data/itunes-library/etc.

I expect this has been asked before but I can't find any threads where it has. If anyone knows it would be highly helpful. I'd prefer to connect to both wirelessly but I could potentially put up with connecting to either or both with ethernet.

OS X Mountain Lion :: Time Machine Can't Complete Backup To Time Capsule

Jun 19, 2014

MacBook Pro mid-2012, 8GB RAM, 750GB hard drive, Mac OS X 10.8.5

One Time Capsule at home

One Time Capsule in vacation home

MBP backs up everything on internal hard drive to Time Capsule at home, where we live during summer and spring. When moving to vacation home in fall and winter, MBP backs up everything to Time Capsule in vacation home.

During the 6 months at each residence, the backups work great to the Time Capsule at that particular house. However, after some time (maybe a week?), Time Machine displays an error in Notification Center: "Time Machine can't complete backup to Home Time Capsule" (when in vacation home) or "Time Machine can't complete backup to Vacation Time Capsule" (when at home).

It's obvious that this occurs because Time Machine was set to back up to 2 Time Capsules and expects both of them to be reachable. Is there a way to suppress these Time Machine errors for the time that we're away from one of the Time Capsules?

OS X :: 10.6.1 Update Destroyed Time Capsule / Time Machine Setup

Sep 15, 2009

Ever since I updated to 10.6.1 I've had the following problems:

- Time Machine does not work at all with my Time Capsule. When it attempts to back up my data, Time Machine gets hung up with a status of "Making backup disk available..." and the icon in the menu bar just spins forever (the status appears in the menu bar icon's menu). I also cannot enter Time Machine; it gets hung trying to connect to the Time Capsule and I have to cancel it. Finder then takes up 100% CPU and I have to power down by holding in the power button (shutting down from the Apple menu doesn't work).

- I store my iTunes library in a folder called Music under the Data folder on the Time Capsule. When I open iTunes, it prompts me to choose my iTunes library. When I do, it starts to load the list of albums, then iTunes locks up and I must force quit it. This also causes my machine to not be able to shut down or restart from the Apple menu.

Oddly enough I can still access the Data folder from Finder with no issues. I just wanted to put this out there in case other people are having similar problems. It's pretty frustrating as all this worked fine before the 10.6.1 update.
