Hardware :: Sharing Same Mouse With 2 Macs Possible?
Jan 10, 2009
I am trying to figure out how I could share a mouse with 2 computers. One of them is a MacBook Pro and the other is a Mac Pro. If I can find a way to share both the mouse and keyboard as well that would be great. I don't have a lot of room on my desk for another mouse and I've heard of people sharing keyboards and/or their mouse. I searched the forums for something of the sort and the closest I came was a guy looking to share between a Mac and A PC. They recommended a A/B switch but if I could avoid using one of those I'd prefer it. Mostly because I don't have on at this exact moment. I thought since both of mine are Macs there might be an easier way?
I cant get my speakers to work with my Mac Pro so since I have my macbook pro on my desk also I want to share Itunes with my macbook pro since I can use my speakers through that. Is there any way I can have the itunes on my macbook pro use the library from my Mac Pro?
I'm trying to set up my old iBook G4 as a print 'server' for other Macs on my network. I'm having a problem getting the other computers on the network to SEE the shared printer from the iBook. They can see the iBook as a network computer, but can't seem to connect or even 'see' the usb printer. I've clicked 'Share Printers on the iBook in both Sharing preferences and the Printer and Fax preferences, but no luck.
I am trying to enable screen Sharing between my tow Macs. my iMac and my Macbook. i see the "share Screen" button when i click on my imac/macbook in finder on the left side corner. I am asked for a password and a username... what username and password is it asking for? i typed in my macbook's login name and password, imac's login and password, and my e-mail and password (bassically the username for my internet provider)i need help, i googled this but i can't find the answer to my question. i Youtubed this but all i got was a lot of info on what screensharing is, i know what it is, i want to be able to use it....
I am relatively new to Macs, have been using it for 5-6 months. I already know how to do everything but share folders and drives using my network connection. I have an iMac and a Macbook Pro. I have a 120GB Hard Drive hooked up to the iMac via Firewire. How can I share that Firewire External Hard Drive with my Macbook Pro? What are the steps I have to follow to connect both macs? Is there a way that I could also share my iMac's desktop files with my Macbook Pro? I already have a wi-fi connection between both computers, I just don't know how to share that hard drive between both simultaneously..
I'd like to know what the best way would be to share movies on my xserve with other Macs and my TV. I want every device to show changes that are made on the server. (So not that I have to add the movies on every Mac to have them show up). If possible, I'd love this to work through iTunes (it should at least work easily; my mother has to understand you know).
I have a new iMac MacBook air and aebs with a USB drive, both computers are set up as the same user and passed and with full file sharing running. From the iMac I can see the laptop under the shared heading but clicking on it just sits for a while and then says unable to connect, the same thing happens when I click connect as. This happens from the laptop also and also exactly the same when trying to connect to the drive on the aebs.
They only way it works is to go the finder and going through connect to server and this is fine, any ideas what to do? Also my understanding is that the drive on the aebs should automatically connect but this doesn't? Which means every time I restart the laptop I have to manually reconnect to the drive which is annoying as I use it for time machine. I would also like to easily connect both macs together so I can keep files synced easier.
I have 2 macs - mac mini and a macbook pro Both audio outputs of the computers are teathered to my speakers with a Y cable. When computer one is playing music to the speakers, I'll be using computer two for work purposes. Should computer two experience an audible alert (instance message, new e-mail message, etc) the music will dim for about 30 seconds. How do I prevent the "dimming" of the music?
I use screen sharing a lot and want to be able to use it with a "headless" server (no monitor attached). I've notice with two separate "headless" macs that the screen sharing has major problems with the icon jumping and it really doesn't work. Is there a way to trick the mac with no monitor into thinking it has one? Is there some work-a-round?
I currently have a Mac Mini operating as a Home Theatre with my TV, i transfer media files between my MacBook and the Mini via the Wi-Fi network.
The files transfer fine, no problems. However when it comes to modifying or editing the files i have a labourious task of going into the info pane of the file & adding the Mac Mini as a user and then giving it the read/write permissions.
Is there any way that files transferred from my MacBook via this method already give the read/write permissions automatically to my Mac Mini? Instead of going into every file and adding the permissions manually?
Probably is a simple answer to this, but its the first time i've used file sharing between two macs.
Other than switching the backup hard drive between 2 Macs is there way the hard drive can be shared over the network for the purpose of using Time Machine? My external 1TB drive has two partitions. I'd use each one for a different computer. Right now I'm pulling the plug and switching it to the machine I want to back up. It would be nice if I did not have to do that.
Before I was able to access files in my drop box on my desktop from my macbook. Now i can't sing on at all....I didnt do anything different and didnt adjust any firewall settings or anything like that...anyone know wtf is up wit dat??
I successfully have my mac mini's external hard drives showing up on my macbook pro, however I have run into into a problem. When bringing up programs like ITunes I get a very slow response or application not responding, I songs and videos show up in ITunes after hours upon hours of loading them in. In Plex t also has this problem. It is hit and miss when I try to play a video that is on the hard drive. This is only happens with video and music. Other files I have no problem. I am using an apple extreme router and an apple express router as a booster.
I have a PC and a MBP and want to connect the MBP to my desktop monitor, mouse and keyboard. I know I need the mini displayport adapter for the monitor. What do I need that will let me use my usb keyboard and mouse on my PC and Mac without having to unplug them every time I want to switch?
I know about KVM switches but i haven't found one that would share two apple cinema using 2 DVI on the KVM switch.Any site suggestions of were they might sell this switch.
I was using Sharemouse to share a keyboard and mouse between my new mini and my old PC. I want to run them both for a while as a get things switched over. When I installed Photoshop I suddenly became a "power user" and they now want $50. Is their a similar program that is easy to use? I tried Synergy but set up was a nightmare.
I am a Windows User but would like to get started with a Mac. I am thinking of getting a Mac Mini. In the Windows world I can share two desktops with a KVM for Monitor (RGB) / Keyboard / Mouse. I don't want to run Windows on the Mac. I prefer to have separate computers. I have considered maybe using Remote Desktop from Windows to the Mac or the other way around. And can you even use a Windows Keyboard and Mouse with a Mac. I assume the Monitor (with DVI) is not a problem.
Ok, I'm going to try and break your brain...So what you think might work on this setup:Shared keyboard/mouse with:
1. Macbook - needs to connect to hdmi/dvi monitor 1 and monitor 2 as separate screen (separate browsing, etc.). In effect, macbook would be open with monitor 1 and monitor 2 useable as additional desktop space.
2. PC - needs to able to use monitor 1 as well. When PC is running Mac does not need to use either monitor 1 or 2. PC is sort of secondary to all this so I'm willing to be a bit more "manual" with PC monitor connection if necessary.
I am currently using an iogear device to share keyboard/mouse, though I'm flexible in losing it if needed.
I have just purchased a new iMac with Leopard. I already own a MBP with Tiger and I am trying to shares files between the two. The MBP connects to iMac and shows files easy as...however I have enabled sharing on iMac when I choose Network it recognises the MBP but always says connecting and after a few minutes shows connection failed.
I have two users defined on my macbook (one is New, and the other one, the Old one, is what I've always had).I was re-configuring File Sharing on the Old user.I turned files sahring off in the Old User, but when I log into the New, I can still acess to some folders that I have never set to be shared; only few folders have the red restricted access on it. The New User does have file sharing disabled, and non of its folder can be accessed; so, it's working Ok for this New User.
I am trying to set up my home network to have the iMac share its' media library via iTunes, and access that media on other devices in the home. I would like to use iTunes Music Sharing, which is a very simple setup on the iMac and doesn't require any Apple ID to be entered on the devices accessing the shared library. However, I have found that the iPhone and iPad will not even see the shared media library when the iMac is set up to share its' library.
Only when I enable Home Sharing on the iMac, and configure Home Sharing on the iPhone and iPad, do I see the shared library available on those devices.
I would like to allow other family members in the household to access the shared media library without requiring them to have my Apple ID and password. iTunes Music Sharing is supposed to allow this.
Does iTunes Music Sharing not work when trying to share to an iPhone or iPad?

When I attempt to share my project to a DVD, it gives me the option of 'Next' rather than 'Share' - why? Then it says that the DVD Sharing was successful - but it hasn't! It saves a disk image to the destination. I don't know why the 'Share' option has suddenly changed!! I was burning DVDs just fine a few days ago!
Also, what is the most effective / quick way of burning DVDs using the MacBook, without purchasing other software?

I've got a mac mini that i got less than 2 mos ago, and i'm trying to install ProTools onto my machine from a DVD. When i was initially configuring my machine, i checked out the Remote Disc feature, but over my lame wifi connection, things were taking way too long, and I dropped it. Now, when trying to setup this Pro Tools install, I seem to have lost the ability to use the DVD/CD sharing options in my System Preferences. The option just isn't there anymore. I have the option on my Snow Leopard MBP, and it's enabled there, and the two machines are connected on a computer-to-computer wireless connection.
If $$$$ is not an issue, here is an alternative for those people complaining about Apple's old Mighty Mouse & new Magic Mouse:ID titanium laser mouseThis mouse would double the value of your standard 21.5" iMac!
I just bought the latest macbook pro. It is actually my first mac so I'm not really sure if this is supposed to happen. But I tried plugging in my "ordinary pc" (meant to say that is not a Mac mouse) mouse which is an A4Tech brand. It's working when I move the mouse in huge spaces. It goes smoothly that way. But when I try to move it in small little spaces, it's kind of like not going smoothly. Especially when I'm working on small details like Photoshop, it's kind of difficult to maneuver the mouse arrow. I tried other "pc" mouse as well but it's just the same.. Does this really happen if I'm not using Mac's mouse? How do I fix this?
If I want to format my Mac Pro (6 core 3.33 GHz) and I have an Apple wired keyboard and a bluetooth Magic Mouse will the Setup Assistant be "smart" enough to pair the mouse with the computer or will I be stuck with no mouse during the setup process? Do I have to run the entire process with a wired mouse?
