I just got my new Magic Mouse and don't get the multitouch to work. Only a "real" click and moving the mouse is working right now. I don't know what I do wrong, I use 10.6.2, but to be totally sure, I even tried to install the Magic Mouse software update. Doesn't work. No mouse multitouch settings in the preferences.

The Magic Mouse is said to feature a seamless touch-sensitive enclosure that allows it to be a single or multi-button mouse with advanced gesture support. Using intuitive gestures, users can easily scroll through long documents, pan across large images or swipe to move forward or backward through a collection of web pages or photos. Magic Mouse works for left or right handed users and multi-button or gesture commands can be easily configured from within System Preferences.
The Magic Mouse laser tracking engine provides a smooth, consistent experience across more surfaces than a traditional optical tracking system. Magic Mouse uses Bluetooth wireless capabilities to create a clean, cable-free desk top and its secure wireless connection works from up to 10 meters away. To extend battery performance, Magic Mouse includes an advanced power management system that works with Mac OS X to automatically switch to low power modes during periods of inactivity. The wireless Magic Mouse is powered by two AA batteries which are included. Earlier this month, AppleInsider revealed that Apple was planning a makeover of its wireless mouse with multi-touch technology. Apple has broken its decade-long chain of terrible mouse designs with the new multitouch, wireless Magic Mouse, although its multitouch features are somewhat limited in functionality. If previous versions of Apple's Bluetooth wireless mice and the sticky trackball of the Mighty Mouse have left you skeptical of the company's ability to design a desirable mouse, you may be in for a surprise with the new Magic Mouse. There's no real magic; just a highly accurate laser optical mouse paired with a hard plastic, multitouch surface that supports smooth document scrolling, right clicking, screen zoom, and two finger swipes. Given that Apple has pioneered practical applications of multitouch technologies in consumer products, you might have high hopes for the new mouse's multitouch surface. While scrolling up and down and left and right is smooth and satisfying, the surface of the mouse isn't big enough to act like a trackpad, so don't expect it to act like one.
Unlike Apple's multitouch trackpads, there's no provisions for touching to click (which makes little sense on a mouse), or for fancy gestures like four finger expose. You'd be hard pressed to even get four fingers in contact with the mouse's surface at once. Instead of trying to make a mouse with a conventional trackpad surface, Apple has delivered a usable Mighty Mouse that primarily uses touch sensitivity in place of a scroll ball. Touch to scroll This part works very well; there's no small ball to target, so you can freely move your fingers anywhere on the surface to scroll within documents. You can even scroll by touch without the mouse making any contact on a surface. There's also an option for scrolling with momentum, which provides a little scrolling inertia when you flick, similar to the iPhone. Scrolling within documents or menus (such as the slides list in Keynote) seems appropriately accelerated at the default speed setting. However, trying to scroll within Cover Flow requires subtle finger action, because the touch surface is tremendously sensitive (and Cover Flow exaggerates this sensitivity). Your first attempt to scroll in iTunes will likely whip you through a couple hundred albums. With some practice and patience, you'll be able to scroll album by album with finger motions that seem almost imperceptible......
I just got a Magic Mouse. It works perfectly in OS X, but when I boot into Windows XP, it doesn't work at all. I read that the Bluetooth Update 1.0 is for the new iMacs only. But I read that others got the mouse working, just without the scrolling.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI got a Magic Mouse for Christmas this morning and set up with my Macbook Pro. The setup went quickly and well. I was able to move the cursor around my screen with the Magic Mouse.
However, the click buttons don't work. I have tried left and right clicking and nothing happens.
Is there a problem with my mouse or did I miss something in the setup?
I got Mac Mini and i installed Windows 7 on it with Boot Camp, After i installed drivers and everything. Everything worked includes the Magic Mouse. After i did a restart my Magic Mouse didn't work anymore. I tried turning the Mouse off and on and it still doesn't work.
Completely out of no where my Magic Mouse decided to stop swiping. I toggled the two-finger swipe off then back on in sys prefs, turned the mouse off then back on, verified all software up to date, even rebooted. nothing.
What's up with that? I just was using my brothers iMac and noticed his Magic Mouse felt a little different while web browsing.. I went into the System Preferences > Mouse and realized that he had enabled the check box of "Scrolling" and had it set to "WITH MOMENTUM".
So I figured out that was why mine felt different. I went into my System Preferences > Mouse and have the dialog box for "Scrolling" but I do not have the option to select "WITH MOMENTUM" or "WITHOUT MOMENTUM". I'm using a Macbook, and he has a new iMac. Both with Snow Leopard.. and I just ran a Software Update, and it says everything is Up To Date.
word is i need to upgrade my imac which is running osx 10.4.11 to a minimum of 10.6.2 but this may mean that it doesnt support PowerPC based machines,now i may sound as though i know what i am talking about but i can confirm that i don't! this is what a mate told me over the phone
View 4 Replies View RelatedIt has been this way as long as I've had the Magic Mouse - if I change the batteries, it won't re-connect. I must plug in a USB mouse and manually connect the Magic Mouse. This is on a relatively recent 24" iMac. Am I doing something wrong?
PS: I think at some point in the past I made the mouse a Favorite in trying to fix this.
Would this new Magic Mouse work the PC (have bluetooth)? I just need click, scroll up,down, left, right.

Just purchased a Magic Mouse to use with my Macbook Pro. When I left click on a Bookmarked Website in Safari it does not open the website it gives me the option to rename the website. Very frustrating. I have to either click on the screen shot above the bookmarks or I have to right click and choose open.

BUT, I thought the "magic" of the mouse was that it's flat surface is supposed to work like a MacBook's trackpad. MINE DOES NOT. It just scrolls around, up and down within a window. Other than that, it works like a regular mouse, just move it, point and click. Is this right? Or did I mess up already? I called AppleCare and they say this is normal, but for what I paid, it should do more magic.

I just reinstalled SL, and I cannot get spaces to work with mouse buttons. The mouse does work, and spaces works with keyboard keys. I really want it on my mouse though (mouse button #5).

buying one of these to replace my mouse.There's no store where i live so i can't go into the store and try both I'v never tried the apple trackpad on their laptops either.I used a lot of windows laptops before and what i can say.They were so bad that i always had a little mouse in my back I rly don't know what to expect for the apple track pad.Can it replace completely the mouse and is it comfortable to work with ? Or should i go with the mouse ?

With Snow Leopard 10.6.8 on my MacBook Pro-13" (mid 2012) I could wake my sleeping Mac by just pushing the mouse or sliding my finger on the trackpad - this is connected to an external monitor mouse is a Logitech wireless (via USB connector to the sensor).I did NOT have to push the spacebar or click the mouse to wake the Mac BUT WITH LION I DO-- I cannot simply slide the mouse a bit this doesn't cause my MBP to wake.Is this something new with LION or do I have to set something to permit easier waking?
