Hardware :: Macbook Hard Cases Made?

Jan 19, 2009

I'm considering getting a hard case for my new Macbook, mostly considering the Speck See Thru Satin since I can't really find other good products, and was wondering if they scratch the aluminum on the macbook? I know people have said that hard cases have made it even worse from debris getting in between the outer Macbook casing and the hard case but I was wondering if there was something special, either about the new aluminum Macbooks or the See Thru satin, that made this not happen.

Final Cut Pro X :: Modifications Made To Duplicate Projects Also Made To Original

Jun 21, 2014

I'm basically trying to make a "save as" version of a project so I can change what I have without risk of losing everything I've done. But every time I save a new version of the project (and even rename it, store it on another drive, etc.), the changes I make to the new version are also made to the original.I'm also not getting the popup "duplicate project" window (which should give me a choice of where and how to save the project) I'm supposed to get when I click on "Duplicate Project." How can I simply save a fixed version of my project?

Applications :: Intelligent Cloning - Carbon Copy Cloner To Mirror Any Changes Made In Original Hard Drive

Aug 27, 2010

I have an external hard drive with lots of media files, and now I backed this up to an identical external hard drive. I wanted to use Carbon Copy Cloner to mirror any changes made in the original hard drive, but I have now tried this for the first time, after having moved some files around. Now instead of moving those files on the other hard drive, CCC just copied these files from the original hard drive, something that takes much longer. Is there any program that could do this more intelligently? (moving files on the backup drive instead of copying them over from the original drive again?)

Mac :: MacBook Pro Sleeves Cases

Apr 11, 2010

Longtime lurker and future MBP Arrandale owner (feels good to say it out loud). This will be my first MBP, but I got a small question about the cases/sleeves which is being sold by the Apple store. If the MBP comes out this week, will the current cases/sleeves fit the (new) MBP exactly? I want to buy a case or sleeve.

2011 Macbook Pro Crashing On Sleep (and Other Random Cases)

Jun 12, 2012

I am a proud (albeit frustrated) owner of an early 2011 Macbook Pro 15" with the i7 2.2GHz and the ATI 6750 HD.I am running Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4 (11E53) with the latest updates as of June 12 2012. I have been a big Macbook fan ever since my 2007 white core2duo macbook, but have been experiencing a problem with the latest beast. My problem is, as the title states, crashing upon sleep. The laptop will randomly crash when in use at times, though I thought that problem was a bit too vague to post about here. However, the crashing on sleep issue pretty specific.Basically, to reproduce my problem, all I have to is let my Mac fall asleep with the lid open. After a couple minutes of being asleep, it will either wake up or stay asleep with the activity light steady and dim. The ratio of crash to not crash seems to be roughly 7 to 3. The only way I have been able to fix the issue is to perform a hard shutdown and reboot. Upon rebooting I get an error report, but I'm not sure if that is related to the crash, or just the fact that I shut the computer down the hard way.

I heard that the 6750s sometimes have issues and crash a lot. Should I take this sucker in before my warranty expires and get it looked at?when I boot into Windows 7 via bootcamp, I semi-frequently get a crash when the screen looks fuzzy for a split second right before it reboots. This happens randomly, although I have noticed it happening sometimes when closing a 3D intense program (read: game). But it has never crashed during the 3D intensity. This is only a post-script becuase it could just be the fact that I'm using Windows on a Mac that is causing it to fuss.

MacBook :: Made The Switch From PC To Mac?

Apr 7, 2009

I've been following this forum for over 2 months now and I'm proud to say that it helped me to finally make the decision to buy a mac. I've always been an iPod-fanatic but a completely new OS seemed like a very drastic change. I recently moved houses and now I live about 200 metres from an apple store, so I guess it was just a matter of time before I caved in .Now that I've been using my new laptop for about a week I can honestly say that I've never enjoyed using a computer as much as I do now. I'm already getting frustrated when using my PC (a Dell Inspiron 1525) to transfer files because it doesn't function as fluently as my mac, I believe that this is a good sign . What I like the most about my new machine are the multi-touch gestures on the trackpad and the very good battery life (I can easily watch over 3.5 hours of video with Airport turned off and low light conditions. Coming from barely 1h15 of word processing on my Dell, I can say that I'm quite impressed). I'm also a lot more productive on this computer than I ever was on any other laptop, I don't know what it is but i'm guessing it has something to do with the fullscreen option in Pages '09. Also, the backlit keyboard is incredibly useful when instant messaging in my room in the middle of the night without my parents knowing, or typing in dark lecture halls.

MacBook Pro :: Sleeve Made Specifically For 13" MBP?

Jun 14, 2009

When I picked up my 13"MBP at the apple store earlier this week I also picked up the incase 13" neoprene sleeve at the same time. I initially was going to order an STM sleeve online like I have for my 15" PBG4 but after looking at the sleeve in the store and liking the extra soft interior I decided to give it a go.When I unpacked my MBP and put it in the sleeve, however, I find the fit a little loose to my liking. It's not loose in the sense that the laptop slides around inside the case, rather the case seems to be too thick or something because it seems like there is extra material that I can grab and pinch even when the laptop is inside. This doesn't happen with my STM sleeve and my PBG4, the fit is more snug and there doesn't seem to be any excess material anywhere.I'm not sure if it's just extra padding from the incase sleeve, or if the fit could be improved. I was thinking though, if the sleeve was made for the 13" macbook (plastic) it's a little thicker than the unibody designs, and maybe this difference in thickness is what I'm feeling as the slight "looseness"?

MacBook Air :: What Made It Finally Connect To Wifi After Sleep

Apr 19, 2012

I finally got my mid 2011 MBA to connect to my preferred network when waking from sleep. It is something you may have read elsewhere but I can confirm it worked for me. You have to disable the "deep sleep mode". When a Air goes into deep sleep is when (for me) it failed to wake my network back up. I switched off deep sleep and not only does it wake up faster it wakes up connected to the Wi-fi network. How do you turn off deep sleep? Using the terminal command

sudo pmset -a hibernatemode 0

If you are like me you may say what is a terminal command? Go to spotlight (that magnifying glass icon top right corner of your screen) and type terminal. Click the Terminal next to Applications. Copy paste the command I posted above and supply your password if you have one. What this does is disables the deep sleep mode that the Air's use for maximum battery life while left sleeping and on battery. This is why my Air always connected to wi-fi when it was plugged in to power, because it never enters deep sleep when on external power. Now the computer goes to sleep and wakes up as intended and no more turning airport on and off to start wi-fi back up. Try for yourself and if it does not work...your Air is broken (I guess).

If it did not work and you want to put the computer back to the way it was go back to terminal as above and then copy and paste this command back in.

sudo pmset -a hibernatemode 3

In case you worried your computer now does not sleep, it does. It goes into plain sleep mode as the old Macbooks that awoke just fine used to do.
