View 8 RepliesI use my macbook with an external monitor at home. When I visit my clients, I unplug the cable and travel with just the macbook. When I use the macbook at home, I have it sitting on a cheapo stand that tilts the laptop to improve ventilation at the bottom. I notice that the video adapter cable dangles on the side and this might be introducing some strain on the video connector.
Is there a connector or jig that will reduce this strain? e.g. the cinematic screen uses a connector that combines video and power connection and this seems to be nice and solid. Any such third-party product exist? alternatively, has there been any 'lifehacker' type of solution for this?
When it did show the screen saver the mouse arrow was on the tv and not on the computer and there were no icons to be found on the tv to click on. Right clicking would only bring up the screen for setting the background pictures.

I got the mini-displayport+USB(sound) to HDMI adapter. I just need a HDMI cable to plug into the adapter now. What is a cheap good HDMI cable? What kind should I get? 1.3 or 1.4? Does it matter?

View 3 Replies View Relatedi just bought the macbook alu. w/ the mini displayport, i tried to plug it directly to my samsung 1080p hdtv with the Mdport to vga cable but the tv didnt display anything. so i searched the web to find other solutions (Mdport to dvi -> dvi to hdmi cable), but for me that means buying 2 other cables so i was wondering if i could use this route: mini displayport to vga -> vga/dvi-i adapter -> dvi-i/hdmi cable -> 1080p hdtv? with this example, i would have to buy only the dvi-i/hdmi cable since I already have the vga/dvi-i adapter (my old MSI 6600gt one) so hows that sound? thx for giving me the answer ASAP cause I need to make a surprise presentation for my boy!

View 1 Replies View RelatedBuying both the Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter AND Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter is pretty expensive...
I was wondering if I purchase the Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter, will I be able to use a simple DVI to VGA adapter to use it as a VGA adapter also???
I'm not sure if the Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter only sends digital signal or digital & analog signal.
I was wondering how I could file share, or make the whole Hard Drive (HDD) accessible to another computer. The two other computers I have are a Toshiba Laptop with Ethernet and USB, and a iMac Intel with Firewire, USB, and Ethernet. Putting these to use along with:Three Ethernet Cables Now how do I get the whole HDD visible to the others computers (either/both) and be able to write to it? Also, I do not want to use CDs and have no CDs that came with the computers. I want to put Xubuntu on the eMac and Debian on the iMacs and erase the rest of the Hard Drives. The computers getting this are the iMac G3s and the eMac G4 in my Signature.

I bought a cable and connected it to the Mac Pro, but the receiver(where I want to plug the line in) is old and only received optical. I was able to connect an analog cable from the front of the mac pro's headphone jack into the back of the receiver, but the sound isn't really the greatest.

Can I split the cable line in my room so that I may watch TV, or would this cut my download/upload bandwidth in half?

I have an aluminum macbook. I've had it since April 09 and I absolutely love it. I purchased a 22" Dell external monitor that i am connecting via mini display to dvi adapter. I've just been using this for about three hours and I've noticed that my laptop is REALLY hot right by the adapter.
I have two VGA cables. My first is simply a cheap one which I have been using for the past few months on my full HD (1080p) TV. I use a Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter on my 17" Macbook Pro and have been able to get full HD output to my TV.
However, this cable was poorly shielded and I got some wavy lines from other TV inputs.
I've just got a new VGA cable, and this has far greater shielding (so that problem is fixed), however I cannot get it to go above a resolution of 1400x1050 - going to 1920x1080 @60Hz as I did with the other cable gives me a message from my TV - "Unsupported signal. Adjust your PC output."
When I try and use the 'Detect Displays' button in System Preferences, I don't see anything happen as a result...
Edit: After a bit of research, my new cable is actually an SVGA cable. It has the same pins, layout etc and as far as I'm aware it should work. Why doesn't it!?
Edit2: Tried another VGA cable, and that works. So my findings are that 'Super-VGA' cable doesn't work, at least by default. Any way I can fix this?
I have a gateway 24" flat screen that I am trying to hook up via VGA to my i5 macbook pro. I have hooked up this computer to projectors before with no problem, but for some reason when I plug it into the monitor it says no signal even when I refresh it in system properties. I thought the cable might be weird, but it works with a windows computer that I have.
I just bought a 32 inch RCA flat screen tv, and I wanted to hook it up to my macbook. So I did some research, bought the VGA adapter and a VGA cable. Everything is hooked up and in place but when i turn on my TV it just says "unsupported"

View 12 Replies View RelatedMy question is if it's possible to connect my MacBook Pro (13") with ethernet connection to my PS3 with an ethernet (or other) cable. So that my PS3 sees my MacBook without using any router, etc... and that I can play movies (e.g. in Blu-Ray) or music that's on my MacBook through my PS3 on my TV?
I've tried Medialink but I guess that's also for wireless streaming also because when I connect my MacBook with my PS3 my PS3 doesn't show up under "devices".
I've been using an HDMI cable to connect my macbook pro to a LG TV. I haven't used it in couple of weeks, the cable seems fine but when I connect it to the TV it says NO SIGNAL. Any help? I've tried restarting the computer, turning it off and back on with the cable plugged...

My old G4 had no DVD drive and I bought Myst IV, but could not load it. My new MBP uses 10.6.4 and Myst IV does not support anything other than X.3 or 4. Can I use my MBP dvd drive to load the game files to my G4? What kind of adaptor would I use?
