Hardware :: Connecting InFocus Projector To PowerPC G5
Jun 27, 2008
I have a PowerPC G5, an Apple cinema display, and an InFocus X1 projector. I need to hook the projector up to the Mac and have it display what's on the monitor.
- The G5 tower has DVI, ADC, USB ports (I have a DVI/VGA converter as well)
- The cinema display has USB ports
- The projector has in/out VGA ports, an S-video port, and a USB port
What are my options for connecting the projector to the G5 and have it project while still being able to see what's onscreen? I see Apple has $19 converters on their store site but those seem to be for iMacs with video-out ports.
- Can I connect the projector to the computer or monitor simply with a USB?
- I'm looking for VGA-to-ADC converters- would the Apple store sell such a thing?
- Or maybe something like an S-video to the ADC port would work?
I need the projector set up for Sunday so it's urgent I get this figured out and whatever needs to be purchased purchased ASAP.s,

I am getting a Pico Pocket Projector. Unfortunately, it doesn't offer a vga port and the only way to connect anything is through composite. I was thinking of using VGA to Composite and purchased the following:
[URL]
However, when I hook it up to my TV (projector is wrapped away some where) it does not respond and the macbook doesn't pick up on it. Do I need the official apple one? I want to browse the web as well as watching movies.
I am operating tiger 10.4.11 and my graphics thingy is Intel GMA 950.

In a month or so I'm going to need to do a Keynote presentation with a projector. I have the new MacBook, so I need the Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter. It doesn't seem to be getting good reviews though (many saying it doesn't work for them). I will not be able to test it out with the project until the day of the presentation. Is there any other way to connect the MacBook to what I assume will be a basic projector?

There was another thread on this that I found via Google, but now I can't seem to find it again. I have to occasionally hook up my Macbook (not a Pro) to various digital projectors at different companies. I bought the $20 attachment thing. I brought it in and have not been able to get any projector to recognize it at all. This is on several different projectors. I try hooking it up both before and after turning the computer on and it doesn't work. I went to "Display" in System Preferences but there is nothing there about changing the display (to "dual" or "mirror" or anything), it just says "Color LCD" and some preferences about size, bits and stretching. There are no tabs. The worst part is that I teach at a lot of tech companies, so the people there should all know how to fix it, but...1.) can't read English that well, and my Chinese is OK but not *that* good, and 2.) they all use PCs. Macs are like aliens to them. So they can't fix it either. The manual is worse than useless.

I have only twenty-four hours to figure out how best to connect a large screen TV in one room and an Optoma projector in another so that Powerpoint can be viewed on both of them. It seems that my 15" Powerbook G4 cannot support sending both a DVI signal and an S-Video signal at the same-time.
Has anyone any knowledge of websites or threads that have related information? I know that multiple displays are supported....I think... Any ideas?

I have G5 that I am running leopard on. I have an airpot extreme network setup in the house. The G5 shows its connected to the network but will not open internet pages. It was working fine a few days ago. I also have a Macbook that works great on the network and can connect to the internet. All the network settings seem to be the same for the G5 and the Macbook. Literally one day it worked and the next it did not. Is there a setting I am missing somewhere that would cause it not to be able to open internet pages?

I have an Airport card in my eMac. My eMac sees it OK. I have an iMac connected to a wireless router. My eMac sees the router, but when I type in the password to connect I get a cannot establish connection error. THERE IS AN ERROR JOINING THE AIRPORT NETWORK " xxxxxxxxxxxxxx " (xxxxxxx being the name of my router. Just realised that even though the eMac sees the router it is getting no signal, all lines in airport icon in Menu Bar are grey and not black as when there is a signal of some strength.

I bought a cheap wireless adapter on eBay (dumb idea, I know, but I've done it before for my PC and it worked) And I'm having a little trouble connecting.Basically, the program it runs through asks me to input my IP address.Well, I looked it up on my iBook, but when I put that address in, it says something to the tune of "This IP address is already in use."So...am I doing something wrong? Or is this thing just crap like I expected?

I've got an iBook G3 with the B AirPort card installed that has worked fine until trying to connect it to the Linksys WRT610N. No matter what settings I use, AirPort cannot connect to the router. I've updated the router's firmware to the latest version, and am only using WPA, as WPA2 is not supported by the card. I've switch between TKIP and AES, which hasn't helped either. Also, I've changed the router between everymode (Mixed, Mixed B+G only, B only), and that hasn't worked either.

I've just found my old G4, I'm now trying to connect it to the network (wireless).
It finds the router, I then connect, it asks for the key, enter wireless key, click connect.
I then receive the following message: The password you entered is not correct for the Airport Network "Netgear".
The password is correct, any ideas?

I got an 1.33 Ghz G4 iBook logic board, given to me as a working part. However, nothing else that goes along. I do have all the basic cabling such as speaker and power button, flex cables and such. Also got myself a new external AC power adapter. Now, I do not intend to use this as a laptop, thus, I will not be looking for a battery, just AC use. However, there's a big problem, I've no screen. I know there's this software hack that allows to connect an external display, in order to have a "mirroring" desktop.
I suppose that'd be achievable if I had the original screen to actually do the hack, but I don't have it. So, is there a way that I can just directly connect an external display and completely forget about the internal one? One more thing, suppose I can't do what I have in mind, if I actually found and borrowed an internal display, would I be alright if after the hack I give the internal display back to it's owner and continue with the external?

Would someone please tell me the steps to connect my MacBook to my Emac, so that I can transfer some files between them? I have a firewire cord plugged in to both. I thought I should use Sharing but the harddrive never appeared on the desktop. I know it's probably done very simply, but I just don't know how.

I just bought a 23" ACD and I'm having trouble getting it to work with my 17" Powerbook. I checked it in the store before buying and it worked fine, but at home it's not responding. The display is recognised in Preferences and is giving me a choice of resolutions, the light is on, but I can't get the screen to show anything. I've tried adjusting the brightness to bring up an image to no avail, turning mirroring on, and closing the lid on the Powerbook then waking it again but nothing gives me an image on the 23".
My Powerbook is a 1GHz 17" with a GeForce4 MX 64 MB.

Hi- I have an ibook G4 (mid 2005). I'd like to be able to connect it to my new 22" external display so that I can have dual monitors. However, the external display plug obviously does not fit into the slot in the ibook.
Does anybody know the name of the converter cable I would need to buy in order to connect the external display to my ibook? And roughly how much these cost?

Now when im in front of the telly, it would be nice to use the iBook, however ive tried tonight and failed Basically I unhooked the ethernet cable from the iMac, into the iBook - but nothing. The iBook is running OS 9.1. I went to the TCP/IP panel on the iBook and changed it to connect via ethernet...from there I assumed everything else should be automatic. For the configure section, there are four options - manually, using BootP server, using DHCP server, or using RARP server. I have only tried with the using BootP server, as for the others it asks for settings which i do not have, and are not provided under the iMac TCP/IP settings.

I've been on a 1.25 GHz Emac for 2 or 3 years now. I use it for pretty much everything, but mostly messing about in logic 7. I have a M audio firewire 410 interface, and daisy chained into that is a Iomega firewire harddrive. Everything has been fine for a long time with the exception of some very occasional digital distortion.
But since sometime last week, my interface hasnt been connecting to my emac properly. When booting up, the interface's blue power light is meant to flash until it connects. But at the moment, it never stops flashing as it never connects.I initally thought the interface just needed its firmware updated, or had a dodgy cable. But I've also tried plugging my external straight into the emac, and that dosnt mount when its on its own either.
So far I've tried: 2 cold starts, hundreds of restarts/power cycles, zapping PRAM, reseting NVRAM, reinstalling the interface's firmware, installing the "combo update" and using the alternative firewire port. However none of this has worked.'ve spent a long time just trying to get it work and i really cant.Does anyone have any ideas of what I can do to get my firewire ports working ?

Two days ago my iBook G4 1Ghz started to have a big problem in turning it on: when I pushed the power button the fan started to whirl speedier than usual and nothing happened. The monitor stayed turned off and the startup "Boeing" did not sound. I tried to reset the PMU and the PRAM several times and the iBook finally turned on (I still don't know why!). I did a hardware test and no problems were detected.
Then, I connected my connection Ethernet cable and the computer crashed down. Now I am in the same situation that I've just described: I can't turn the computer on anymore and the fan starts wheeling. I also showed this problem to a local Apple center and they told me that the motherboard is dead. I am still not convinced, because one time I have been able to restart the iBook. Is the motherboard really broken?

I recently acquired an iBook G3 600MHZ with an Wireless B Airport Card. My router is a Netgear WNR2000 that is standard N but is backwards compatible with b/g. I have no idea how to set this up. I've tried and it doesn't connect. Oh, and I am running 10.2.8.
I went to Starbucks and it connected there instantly. So I don't know what's going on.
