PowerPC :: Connecting MacBook To EMac With FireWire
Jun 15, 2007
Would someone please tell me the steps to connect my MacBook to my Emac, so that I can transfer some files between them? I have a firewire cord plugged in to both. I thought I should use Sharing but the harddrive never appeared on the desktop. I know it's probably done very simply, but I just don't know how.
I have an Airport card in my eMac. My eMac sees it OK. I have an iMac connected to a wireless router. My eMac sees the router, but when I type in the password to connect I get a cannot establish connection error. THERE IS AN ERROR JOINING THE AIRPORT NETWORK " xxxxxxxxxxxxxx " (xxxxxxx being the name of my router. Just realised that even though the eMac sees the router it is getting no signal, all lines in airport icon in Menu Bar are grey and not black as when there is a signal of some strength.
I bought a cheap wireless adapter on eBay (dumb idea, I know, but I've done it before for my PC and it worked) And I'm having a little trouble connecting.Basically, the program it runs through asks me to input my IP address.Well, I looked it up on my iBook, but when I put that address in, it says something to the tune of "This IP address is already in use."So...am I doing something wrong? Or is this thing just crap like I expected?
So after coming home from school to see my finished downloads so now after putting it all on my external harddrive so now I am trying to get on MSN. I look at my modem its fine go on firefox not connecting to google go reset modem and router nothing any one know whats going on.
I've been on a 1.25 GHz Emac for 2 or 3 years now. I use it for pretty much everything, but mostly messing about in logic 7. I have a M audio firewire 410 interface, and daisy chained into that is a Iomega firewire harddrive. Everything has been fine for a long time with the exception of some very occasional digital distortion.
But since sometime last week, my interface hasnt been connecting to my emac properly. When booting up, the interface's blue power light is meant to flash until it connects. But at the moment, it never stops flashing as it never connects.I initally thought the interface just needed its firmware updated, or had a dodgy cable. But I've also tried plugging my external straight into the emac, and that dosnt mount when its on its own either.
So far I've tried: 2 cold starts, hundreds of restarts/power cycles, zapping PRAM, reseting NVRAM, reinstalling the interface's firmware, installing the "combo update" and using the alternative firewire port. However none of this has worked.'ve spent a long time just trying to get it work and i really cant.Does anyone have any ideas of what I can do to get my firewire ports working ?
i've just got my sister a emac G4 1ghz i installed the airport extreme card from my G5 cos she wants it in her bedroom but it's not connecting to the router, my router is a Thomson TG585 V7 i never had this problem with old airport, it only seems to be with extreme although the card was connecting to the network from my g5 was basically inches away from it, the Emac is on the floor about 2ft away i goto connect and it just keeps timing out, i've made sure the wpa key is correct and even tried manually entering the network config details but to no avail, is there any hope?
Setting up my mom's eMac to the internet via an airport base station. The main computer that is hooked up to the cable modem is my new iMac. Does anyone know the settings I need to input or where I would find them? I'm at a loss for what to do because usually it all works when initially connecting.
I just bought a 1TB Seagate extreme. On the box it said it only supports PC and I actually had some trouble formatting it with Disk Utility. Everywhere I've searched says to create (for a bootable backup) a Mac OS Extended (Journaled) GUID scheme. The drive shows up fine both in Tiger (10.4.11) on the mini, and Leopard (10.5.6) on the MacBook via USB. When you plug in via firewire (which is kinda the point) - the LED's don't come on (or even flash) but the disk still spins up.
I have done a power cycle, unplugged everything for 10 minutes, reset the PRAM, and trashed a few caches. and yes. I tried another Firewire cable and I know the firewire port works. Before you reply, also note that I unplugged all the USB devices and tried both firewire ports on the hard drive about 100 times. I have no way to test if Firewire works on the MacBook (with Leopard instead of Tiger) because I have no firewire port. Plugging in the USB cable for power doesn't do anything, and i can't switch from USB first, then to Firewire - it's almost like the data port doesn't switch (but LED's stay on).
Does anyone have experience with how well USB drives work when connected to firewire drives. I have a LaCie drive that has a USB port. I am wondering how well it would connect to a USB external drive?
My next computer purchase will probably be a MacBook (or MacBook Pro) but I obviously want to be able to plug it into a better screen when I'm at my desk. I was wondering if anyone knows if it would be possible to use my current eMac as this screen?
I have heard that in the early iMacs the monitor was connected internally with a normal monitor lead - so you could open it up and connect a longer one. Does anyone know if this would be the case with an eMac?
I'm thinking of getting the new MacBook which only has USB ports. I have a Firewire/USB hard drive that I'll connect via USB. Can I connect another HD that's firewire only to that drive?
Windows 7 has been awesome so far, but there are still the occasional driver issues. What I'm having trouble with now is firewire. I used to use HFS Explorer to access my external (HFS formatted) hard drive but it no longer shows up in HFS Explorer. Windows doesn't even make the "device connected" sound when I turn it on (yes I'm running HFS Explorer in admin mode/Vista compatibility). Pretty sure it's a firewire driver issue, but I have no clue who makes the firewire for my early 08 MBP.
I'm wondering if the speed difference with Firewire 400 over USB 2.0 is worth the extra $30. I'll primarily be using this for Time Machine backup, but also to store other large files when necessary.
I'm creating a slideshow DVD on a new MacBook. I want to burn it to a DVD, but my MacBook doesn't burn DVDs. I have an Emac (10.2.8) that can burn DVDs. Is there a way I can hook up the MacBook and eMac to burn an IDVD project created on a MacBook. I can't just do the project on iDVD on my emac as it's an old version of IDVD that doesn't support the transitions I'm using.
Can I attach multiple hard drives to my iMac chained by Firewire or do I need a separate port? I now have multiple Western Digital drives and find that sometimes they don't connect to the iMac so I'm wondering if I need a separate port or if my iMac FW port is faulty.
Here's what's happening: We can connect the iBook to the MacBook with a FireWire cable and boot the iBook into FireWire Target Disk Mode (TDM) successfully. The MacBook recognizes the iBook and mounts it as a drive on the desktop. When we try to launch Migration Assistant, it asks us where the old data is located. Specifying another Mac (which is the logical choice) causes it to beachball for about 10 minutes then tell us to connect the two computers with a FireWire cable and boot the other one into TDM, which we've already done. Choosing from a Time Machine backup or other disk causes it to display a blank window, as if it can't detect any other systems.
I have a 1.25 ghz eMac with 1 512 stick currently in. What's the max amount of ram that I can put in? And, do I have to look for anything else except for "DDR SDRAM?" Do I need a certain PC number?
Im purchasing an eMac in a couple days, but am a little confused about performance. Its a 1 GHZ PowerPC G4 with 256MB of Ram but my last pc blew up (literaly) However the 1GB of RAM that was in still works and will fit in it.
Besides that my Questions pertain to Leopard and Time Machine. I Know that Leopard will run on this Mac, But what about performance? and I heard that the eMacs cant experience the i candy Time Machine offers.
How So? is it true? I really want the Ability to use Time Machine. (Right now i'm just using Genie Timeline for my Windows 7 PC)
So yeah I need 2 gigs of ram for my eMac 1.42ghz model. I found this but I don't know if there is anywhere to get it for less $. http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other...g/2700DDR1024/
I just got a USB 2.0 emac for nothing that was going to the recycler. The door specs are: 1.25 ghz/256/40GB/Combo "About this mac" shows that it has 512mb RAM installed in one slot, and it is running 10.4.11 Anyways, it seems to be working great so far. I was able to get one stick of 256mb supported RAM from the only other 1.25 ghz machine in the lot - the rest were 700 - 800mhz emacs. Is it OK to mix the 256 with the 512? I've read many places that it is fine, but will it actually boost the speed of apps and things, or should I just leave it as is? I read somewhere that it might slow down the speed between the two RAM capacities. I don't want to spend any money to buy more RAM.
I have an EMac g4-255mb(just got 2 (256mb chips) never put in yet)-60gig running 10.4 (just got it) and now just got iLife 06) and then I have an 80gig external hard drive. So its like 140gig of room. But I only have a cd burner and dvd drive. Would it be cheaper to install an new internal drive? Or pay more for the external(cause there is no hard installation). What drives would work? And I have a $200 dollar gift card to bestbuy or futureshop.
I have just got an excellent condition eMac 1.42GHz with the Radeon 9600 Card every transition is so smooth! Smoother than my MacBook!
Everything is standard, but it has an Airport Card in it as well which is cool
However, standard also means only 256MB of DDR3200 Memory.
Tiger is installed and everything updated.
Now I am planning to move this thing to Leopard alongside my MacBook. How much RAM shall I get for it? 512MB or 1GB? (bringing it to 768/1.25 respectively) Also what do I need to look out for brand-wise or type wise?
I am wondering because of the click sound if it may actually be the hard-drive causing the pausing issues (as processor/loading noise on macs is generally silent). I have done all of the disk utility fixes etc. with no positive results; disk utility can not find any problems with the HD.
my grandfather's dell laptop is horribly slow. I want to buy him a new computer thats runs faster for his emails/videos. I was looking at the old imacs/emacs on ebay (the 2000-2005) versions.
These comps fit in his budget of approx 100$. I was planning to buy an imac/emac with the following specs
500mhz (or faster) Processor (or 600/700mhz) 256mb (or more) Ram (512mb) 20gb Hard drive (adding external memory) with the newer os x operating system.
My question will these computers fit his needs? He writes emails, he writes a ton of word documents, and he views videos off youtube and off a media player.
My question is that will these spec'd computers be able to run his needs efficiently?
Are there programs that are similar to the windows (which he is used to)?
Can you run microsoft office on these computers?
If not what would be the recommended specs I should look for?
My 5yo eMac (1GHz G4 with 1GB of RAM) freezes intermittently. Sometimes the mouse & keyboard lock up, sometimes a semi-opaque grey 'curtain' covers the screen with a message window in the middle telling me to restart.
Sometimes it restarts okay, sometimes it freezes on the Apple/cog-wheel screen, sometimes the grey curtain comes down again, sometimes the desktop loads okay but then lines of code scroll down the left side of the screen and it locks up again. The RAM is third-party stuff but it's been working fine for over 12 months. The freezing occurs under 10.4 and 10.3.
Trying to get the ps3 eye to work with my emac. OS X 10.5.6. I have downloaded the latest macam and installed it, dragged the component over to the folder, and copied the component into the library/quicktime folder. When I open macam it recognizes that I have the ps3 eye hooked up, but the screen is black. Skype and yahoo also recognize the camera, but the cam monitor screen is black. I really want this to work, and have seen many posts from people with the emac/eye/macam combo and a lot of people have said it works.
