Final Cut Pro X :: No Project Files And Events Folder?
Aug 23, 2014
Can i create my own FCP X Projects file? I'm new to FCP and the training I'm on said i should have a project and events folder but I've only seen the FCP X Events file. I'm afraid that these folders may not be able to communicate properly? From what i understand i need two specific folders to manage all raw event and smaller project files separate but able to reference one another.Â

This may be a complete bone head question, but whenever I duplicate a project in a library, whatever I do to one is done to the other. I want the two projects to be distinct. How do I disconnect the editing from one project to another?

10.1.3 freezing issue. When editing a project, fcpx tries to 'load' a series of unrelated events and freezes, requiring me to shut down the computer and restart. The events are in my same G-drive library but not being accessed and there are no common files. It's doing it every few minutes.Â

I have a strange thing happening when I attempt to update a Final Cut Project and Event from FCPX 10.9. I'm choosing to update manually. When I tell FCPX to go ahead and update, everything looks like it is happening as planned - except that inside of Final Cut the Project files are no where to be found. I know Final Cut is supposed to put them into an Event created especially for the old Projects. But when I look for it there are no project files. When I look at what actually took place at the finder level I find that all the Events have been moved just fine but the old Project Folder is left alone and still intact.

I opened up fcpx and out of nowhere one of the projects I was working on is missing and there is an explanation point next to the event name. But when I go into the actual library folder inside finder I can see the project name in there. I also see inside fcpx at the bottom is a "no data (1)" portion where the media or projects go.

I have a new Mac Pro running Maverick bought when my IMac running Leopard died on me. The reason I never upgraded the old IMac was because of FCP 6 which I did not want to lose. I backed up regularly onto Time Machine and kept my FCP project files on an external hard driveÂ
I was part way through editing a project when my IMac died. I bought 7toX thinking I would be able to import it but now find that I can't because you have to have FCP 6 or 7 already installed to do so, which you can't with OS 10.9.4.Â

I have an event that's not showing up in FCPX, but it is there in the Finder, along with a CurrentVersion.fcpevent file..The media from this event is not showing as 'missing' (red) in the project, but simply as blank (black) clips, so re-connecting does not work.
How do i get these files back into the project?I've tried removing the CurrentVersion.fcpevent and re-starting , but no change...

I have a bunch of projects created pre the FCPX 10.1 update (ie created prior to June 2013) that when I try to update so that I can access the project in 10.1 , FCPX refuses to relink to the original media files. It says that the files are recognised, but are incompatible as they do not share the same media range.Â
The media files are stored on external drives (and were always stored this way), the folder structure hasn't changed since the projects were originally created. The only thing that has changed is the old project has been converted to a new 10.1 project. Â
I have noticed that the info tab of the new project lists all the missing media as having a media range beginning at 00:00:00:00. However, if I reimport the original files into the library, the media range never starts at 00:00:00:00. It will start at a different time code, often with the first number corresponding to the hour of the day the footage was shot (so something shot at 11am will read 11:00:00:00). Â
Both original media, and missing media, share the exact same duration, audio channels etc, just the timecode form Media Start/End is different.Â
I am wondering whether:Â
1) In converting the old project, has FCPX reset all the media start codes to begin at 00:00:00:00? And can it be fixed?
2) Has FCPX has changed the way it recognises time codes with the 10.1 release, so that my original media is being imported correctly, but differently to when the original project was created?
3) If there are any situations where the media start/end timecode of my original media could have changed? Say in upgrading to Mavericks?Â
Either way, almost every single project I have completed with FCPX prior to June 2013, is now unlinked, and cannot be relinked due to the fact that the project has one idea of the media start range, and FCPX has another.Â
I have tried deleting the alias files in the library file, replacing them with the original files. That has no impact.Â
I'm currently operating on FCPX 10.1.3, working on OSX 10.9.4

I've been working on avery complicated project all day with multiple layered clips with key frame animations, colour effects etc. All was fine until I opened a new project in the same event which I was going to use to create some effects sequences for the main project. When I went back to the original project it was empty. Tried the Undo function in case I had done anything stupid but it was greyed out. Went to the FCPX backups and the last file was almost 2 hours old but did not have any sign of this project. The only thing I have left is all the imported media.Â
Using FCPX 10.1.3. This is really annoying as all I have left is an h264 file of the almost complete project and it will be almost impossible to start from scratch.Â

I've been working on a lot of projects lately, and I've noticed that my files are getting scattered all over my HDD. I'm just not thinking about organization right now, I'm thinking about getting the projects done as quickly as possible. I have found the Smart Folder interesting because of this recently. My question is how can I tag my Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, Cinema 4D, After Effects, JPEGs, PNGs, Final Cut, and any other file type to show up in the Smart Folder for the same project? This way I'll just be able to open the smart folder and bang, everything for the project is in that folder. Less worrying about organization, more focusing on work!

I wrongly assumed that when you go to system settings to select the scratch disks (root folder where all the audio and video render folders and files go, capture files, etc.) that Final Cut would save the folder locations within the FC project you are working in. Makes total sense, but for reasons I don't understand, FC does NOT save these folder locations and the result is that I have render files scattered all over the place on my hard drive and it is quite a mess! Fortunately, the project file remembers where it put the render files, so as long as you don't remove or rename any project folders, everything shows up rendered on the time line as it should. The problem is, if I'm working on several projects at once, I have to reset the scratch disks every time I reopen a project, otherwise the program will save it to the last scratch location selected and put all of the render files in another project's folder. I often forget to reset the scratch disks when I'm busy and now I have render files mixed up in various project folders. Â
Why can't you just set the scratch disks one time when you first set up the project and have the project always remember that location, instead of always having to reset them every time you reopen a project. I love Final Cut, but this is a product defect that should be addressed and corrected. If the project file can remember where it is putting all the render files, it should also be capable of remembering the scratch disk locations you originally selected when you first set up the project or better yet, save it to the project's root folder by default.

I have created a FCPX project with a frame rate that does not work well with the frame rate in the events I have taken clips from. I see that I cannot change the frame rate in this project. Can I copy the events on the timeline in this project to a new one with the correct frame rate?

So I'm running FCPX version 10.1.1. I just imported a lot of video (almost 1TB). All of it is in 1080p. I did not copy anything in and left it in its original folders. So I am having two problems:Â
1. I wanted to transcode all of the video to work better with FCPX. Part of the original media is ProRes 422, but part of it was AVCHD. So after converting the AVCHD to Quicktime (.MOV) files, I went to transcode all of the footage to optimized media during import, but it was painfully slow. It would take 15 minutes to transcode a 10 second clip. My computer would also get very hot during this process (90*C). After multiple attempts, I decided to forgo that and just transcode when I export.
Now problem #2.Â
2. I am just viewing the media in the events browser to put keywords on the videos. All I am doing is viewing the videos. I have not even created a project or anything. When I'm viewing it, a lot of the clips won't load or play back, and my computer gets really hot (90*C). I can't even scrub over the videos in the event browser because they will be blacked out or blank and won't load. And this fluctuates. Sometimes I will be able to view the media,I have reset the PRAM and the SMC and neither of those have worked.Â

I am unable to open a FCPX library (containing at least 10 projects and events).Â
Final Cut attempts to load the events and projects in the library but after about 5 minutes the program shuts down and I get an Apple message giving me the option to report the problem.
All other libraries appear to work fine. I am guessing that the last project created within the affected library is corrupt.
I have tried removing the render files in that last project and I have copied the library to another drive and neither worked.

Experiment Results: Temporarily removing Events and Projects from libraryÂ
REASON: I wanted to test removing events and especially ram-hungry projects from FCPX 10.1 to unclog the app a bit. I've been getting lots of spinning wheel time and dropdown windows saying projects unopened and unneeded were being loaded.Â
METHOD: I copied a library to another drive and experimented by manually removing some events made up entirely of projects. Why not remove them? There seems to be hysteria about manually touching the library but no one relates an actual incident that highlights how things can go wrong.Â
I copied a library to another drive and experimented by manually removing some events made up entirely of projects.  The projects are early versions of segments of feature length doc I most likely will never need to bring back in. After removing an Event that had only Projects, FCPX opened no problem and a lot quicker.Â
ODDITY: Removed Events names still appeared with the twirly triangle beside them tho the event icon didn't appear and the Events were empty. I tried trashing them but couldn’t. I then closed fcpx and removed media. Reopened no problem. Closed. Â
Returned Event folders and media to their proper place, reopened no problem. The projects were all there tho their icons were blank at first but then after a couple minutes pics started appearing in them and pretty soon all seemed normal. I opened projects, they worked, no problem.Â
Moving projects & media manually between events—This may be where things get dicey, but you could do this manually with earlier versions of FCPX. It's not something I would do normally since ti's too easy to do in FCPX. But since I have this copy I might try it just to see what happens. If you don't experiment it's not science it's religion.

I was editing a music video last night and finished the edit. I then began to do my color grading. I use Magic Bullet Looks and was using Neat Video Noise Reducer as well. Nothing out of the norm as far as my workflow goes. I got about half way finished with color and turned my computer off when i went to bed. This morning when i reopened fcpx the project loaded but showed a few spots of the timeline that needed to render (the orange bars). BUt once i clicked inside my timeline fcpx froze and i would have to force quit the program.. I have tried uplugging the drive that the events and projects are saved on and opening fcpx that way..it works and other projects from other drives are working fine but when i plug the drive with the corrupted project it loads the project in the timeline but still freezes every single time i click in the timeline and the render percentage is stuck at 0%....Every once in a while when i try it will render about 9 to 30 % then freeze again..

FCPX 10.1.2 gets stuck while loading a project: the status bar on top of the window saying "Loading xxx project" shows the task is completed with a full blue bar but nothing happens and the panel doesn't go away. Only a few commands are available (not greyed out) in the menus; the Quit Final Cut Pro is available but I get a beep and nothing happens when I select this command. Only way to exit is to Force quit (opt-cmd-esc).Â
The strange thing is that I did not try to open that xxx project in the timeline. I was just trying to copy a range from a compound clip in the timeline into another compound clip already open in (another level of) timeline: just after selecting the range (R) FCP X decided to load project xxx and it got stuck.
Another weird thing is that while the Loading panel was visible and I had no control on FCPX, FCPX started to render the compound clip in the timeline. So I waited hoping that at its end (not the usual behavior... but ok) I could continue working. No way: rendering finishes, but the Loading panel is still there.Â

I'm using Final Cut Pro X 10.1.3 and I can't find how to transfer my project. I want to do this because my laptop is slower than my Desktop iMac and I want to continue editing it on there. I recently got a new mac and had backed up all my saved data onto an external hard drive with my old one. When I was setting up my new mac I recovered it from an existing backup (my old computer) and everything seemed to be back to normal. On my old computer I was in the process of making a video with Final Cut Pro X and made sure that it was backed up onto the external hard drive. On my new mac when I tried to recover it, it appeared as a file that couldn't be opened with FCP. Within FCP it had the video but all of the files were missing. I started to relink all of the files but there has to be a faster way. How do I recover this file? Is there a way to just import the backup without having to ever relink files?Â
