A bit of an odd request, but here goes...
Is there any software out there other than Apple DVD Player that can play (non-commercial) HD DVDs? Apple's player is dropping frames on my system so I'd like to try something else if possible.
Otherwise, are there any tricks to get better performance out of DVD Player?
some really cool mac tricks or applications that can do cool stuff to my mac?

I would like to transfer some of my files from my PC to my new Mac. What would be the best way to do this? I have window backup files on the TC, but dont think I am able to "unzip" or "restore" them to the Mac.

I have a 15" MBP 3,1 (Sept 2007) Intel C2D 2.4GHz, 4MB Cache, Santa Rosa, 4GB Ram, 500GB Storage @5400RPM, GeForce 8600M GT 256MB VRAM) I am a student (returning to school) and so I qualify for the Adobe discount for the Creative suite. I already have CS3 (Master Collection) and am considering buying CS5 (Design Premium). I was wondering if I should notice any performance decrease/increase and any general thoughts if it's worth it or not.
View 2 Replies View RelatedRunning Fusion on my 2+ year old MBP has become a near hopeless frustration. When I first got the machine, it ran pretty well, but it hasn't for quite awhile now. It tends to be sluggish to the point of uselessness. Currently, I'm doing a trial of Fusion 3. I'm a licensed owner of the prior versions.
I don't need it much, but when I do, I really need it. I gave up on using it with Windows 7, which is fine, XP will do. Once in awhile, I'll run it and all will be well. Other times, most of the time, it's unusable. I see no pattern to what makes it run well or not. Earlier today, I rebooted and started Fusion all by itself and didn't run anything else. Didn't help much.
Anyone had these problems and found a solution? I see lots of people with problems and plenty of others without. But not many who've bridged the gap.
I can't seem to encode in any other format except for Best Performance. I switched the preferences, changed the encoding setting and then the box goes grey and I can't do anything. I've got plenty of space on my hard drive, and I'm just running out of idea. Any advice?

In browsing thru my Applications folder I noticed that I have an app called "Microsoft Silverlight".I never downloaded that app. Is that part of Snow Leopard? If not, why do I have it, what does it really do? I searched the internet but do not really understand it., do I need it? Will it degrade performance if I uninstall it? What is your advice? As you can probably tell, I am a relatively new Mac user and not a computer expert.
I have had this issue for a while. No matter what I try, Flash movies are SLOW on my 1.5GHz PowerBook G4. I have 1.5GB of RAM, Leopard, and the latest Flash (Flash 9). Every video and game that I run in Flash is choppy unless I set the quality to "low". This occurs in Safari, Camino, and the standalone Flash Player application itself.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have an octocore 2009 Mac Pro with 16G of RAM and it just crawls in iDVD encoding MP4s. CPU usage is very low considering all of the processor cores available. Handbrake, on the other hand, just flies when encoding because it lights up all eight cores. Is there some way to speed up iDVD so its encode performance is more reasonable? At the rate it's going now, it takes around an hour to encode 60 minutes of video.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI installed XP onto Boot Camp, so I can run some Windows games on it. At first, it didn't seem like it was that bad but after loading Sims 2, 2 expansion packs and 1 stuff pack it was a little... different. Windows still starts up pretty quick and everything, but in OS X... the performance has been decreasing slowly. Doesn't the things only affect the things in the Windows partition instead of OS X? Safari's performance wasn't as smooth as it used to be.

View 14 Replies View Relatedhave in the past few weeks uprgraded from tiger to leopard.Everything has been ok but i think i might have deleted some vital part of Quicktime player when i tried to clean up.I only realised this when i decided to get Quicktime player pro which i have paid for and have the key..I have tried to download quicktime from apple support website and just about any other website for that matter but zero.zilch.Installer takes me through the process but i get no player.
I have tried to remove all components of quicktime but to no avail.the download intalls but goes nowhere.Have tried to maybe 'jumpstart' it by double clicking quicktime time movies but there is just nothing going on.

Digital movies play just fine on my camera, a NIkon Coolpix but once I import them to either quicktime or windows media player they do not play smoothly. Any ideas why or what I can do to correct this?

I have used the mac the ripper (latest version) to copy some of my DVD movies (legally purchased) to an external HD as a back up because I'm always losing them and scratching them and lending them to people. Anyways, when playing the video-TS folder in VLC, I've noticed that some movies have a bit of a skip between scenes (very minor). This is not there when i play the same folder in Mac OSX DVD player. Also, in DVD player, the Lord of the Rings The Two Towers, has the name of the director, writer, producer popping up on the screen all the way through. Has any else noticed either of these occurring? Any suggestions?

One thing i did notice though is that the new version is about 130mb. thats nearly double the old one. I guess 130mb still isn't all that bad at all. Still kind of weird it is double the size. View 8 Replies View RelatedThe DVD player controller is trapped off screen. If I "open control door" from the menu i can see it just poking out but can't move it.
That's a screenshot of the bottom left corner of the screen with the control door open, with it closed you cannot see it at all.
No one else seems to have had this problem from my searching but is there a way to reset the position or something?
I tried to record the live TV on Filmon HDI Player 2.10.11 and I can see on top that said recording and everything but I can't find the recorded file after I stopped the recording. Is it a bug or is there anyway that I can fix it. I try using the PC and I can record and I can see the recorded file and playback no problem. So the problem is only when I use my MacBook Pro with Filmon HDI Player for Mac.
View 2 Replies View RelatedOne reason that Keynote doesn't have that much penetration is that there is no Keynote Viewer or Player (like PowerPoint has) for the PC.
I would love to use my Keynote to make a presentation, but most places I present have PCs. It is so much easier to plug a thumbdrive in, rather than bring a mac from home just to give a talk. So I end up using PowerPoint on my Mac.
Why can't Apple do what PowerPoint does and create a small Keynote Viewer for PCs? Then we could save the Keynote presentation, and its viewer onto a thumbdrive and play it anywhere there are only PCs (like 95% of the world)
Simply saving a Keynote file in Powerpoint mode doesn't work, since lots of slide transitions, animations, etc get messed up in the process.
I have recently bought an imac and would like to use my sony mp3 player (model: nwzs616f) with itunes to download music to and from it. When i connect the player via usb, itunes does not recognise it. Is there a way I can connect the player and get itunes to recognise it?

I assume this is the best/latest quicktime player but when I try watch some videos it wont play them, it just shows me a largish icon of the older Quicktime player icon. Anyone know why it doesn't play with QTX? I have tried downloading Quicktime 7 to just view these videos but half way through setting up it stops me putting it on my hard drive something about already there and to check software for updates.

I figure there would be two ways; it could just copy the Itunes directory which always has things sorted by artist, or it could try and duplicate my playlists as folders. I'd prefer the latter. Does anyone make software that does this?
