View 1 RepliesA bit of an odd request, but here goes...
Is there any software out there other than Apple DVD Player that can play (non-commercial) HD DVDs? Apple's player is dropping frames on my system so I'd like to try something else if possible.
Otherwise, are there any tricks to get better performance out of DVD Player?
I was just curious what little applications people are using to mac OS X that much cooler. Here's what i'm using...
I use Menu Meter. It puts a little upload/download meter in the menu bar so I can see what's going on with my network. It also has the ability to display cpu and ram usage, but I don't use those.
It's also use Delocalizer it goes through ever application and removes all of the foreign language documentation associated with them. Unless you are incredibly interested in learning how to use iTunes in Mandarin Chinese, I promise that there is about 200+ mb of space you can free up. (Ignore the website's warning, i've used it on 10.3 and it worked fine)
Finally I use Synergy for it's iTunes capabilities.
Any how, my new iMac is on order and I have a couple questions. First, any MUST KNOW Mac tips and tricks? Second, I am currently on a Vista Machine and I have the 1TB TC. I would like to transfer some of my files from my PC to my new Mac. What would be the best way to do this? I have window backup files on the TC, but dont think I am able to "unzip" or "restore" them to the Mac.

View 3 Replies View RelatedIs it bad for Macs to leave them on a long time when you're not using it?
My nephew once told me he puts his PC off when he goes to school for example, because it would be better for his pc.
Does this count for...
- My PowerBook, running on cable (not battery, whatever)?
- My (to buy) 24'' iMac?
Reason is I sometimes want to leave my stuff on to upload or download stuff...
You know the iMacs they have setup in the Apple Store with the cool kids game interface where you can select a game by clicking on it? No menus, no way to mess it up? Is that "program" available so I could use it at home for my kids? All they use their iMac for now is to play games.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI've not yet decided on iWork or Office Mac... is iWork now fully compatible with Office? If it is I'm gonna download the trial version ASAP. But beyond that what else should I be looking for? My brain has gone dead after all the file transfers, so I've literally just installed MSN Messenger, Football Manager and VLC player + codecs. Do I need any antivirus software as well?
View 11 Replies View RelatedI just bought final cut express about a week ago, and haven't used it yet. There's a youtuber: http://youtube.com/puttherecordon/ Who does insane editing. He uses Sony Vegas. Is it possible to do this kinda thing in Final Cut Express? Also, in Final cut you have to Render everytime you import or change something. It takes me hours trying to edit something. Is there anyway to fix that? Do you have to render with sony vegas?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI was uploading some video from my camera to iphoto when my computer crashed. I turn it back on and everything I had in itunes Apps, music, movies, etc. is now gone (over 120 movies and 15,000 songs and 300 playlists) the files are still on my computer thankfully but what is the fastest and easiest way to get that stuff back into itunes? Also where are my app files they are not in the "mobile applications" folder in my itunes file folders? I have everything backed up on time machine but this really pisses me off anyone know where I can start?
View 2 Replies View RelatedSo I've installed a few applications here and there that haven't really worked like I wanted them to. I recently installed Parallels and I hated it. I deleted everything I could find but when I search "Parallels" in my finder a bunch of other stuff appears. Is that all related to Parallels, is it okay to delete them all, or not? The only reason it bothers me is because my computer used to shut down literally 5 times faster than it has been since I install Parallels. I think maybe that was the problem and if I delete everything I can find related to Parallels it will shutdown faster.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am trying to make a DVD menu system and the footage I have is only 3.9 GB. The menu system works perfects only if I don't add chapters. The minute I add chapters the DVD jumps up to 8.1 GB. Is that normal? Why does DVD studio pro need two tracks to make this stuff work? Can't it just use the footage that "Play" is using? Perhaps I am doing something wrong?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI get most of my TV viewing done online these days. I watch a lot of hulu, [URL], etc. This has been great so far, but there is a looming problem. Many ISPs are moving toward bandwidth caps. Comcast allows 250GB, and I believe Charter will be rolling them out soon. My ISP (AT&T) doesn't have them yet, but I believe they will soon. Does anybody know of an app that will let me monitor just how much stuff I am downloading/streaming? I am really curious to see how big all this cool online video gets.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a long text document that has data in this exact format (it's a list of soccer players and their teams etc):
AUS1GKAndrew REDMAYNE - (Central Coast Mariners, AUS)
AUS2DDaniel MULLEN - (Adelaide Utd., AUS)
AUS3DLuke DEVERE - (Brisbane Roar, AUS)
The spaces between "AUS", "1", "GK", and "Andrew" are all Tabs. I need to get this document into this exact format:
AUS1 Andrew Redmayne
AUS2 Daniel Mullen
i.e. I need to delete the extra information, remove some of the tabs, and convert words in ALLCAPS to first letter in uppercase, rest of word lowercase. Does anyone know a text editor that can do this? With Apple's Text Edit I can't even seem to get rid of the tabs - is there even a way to search/replace a tab character?
How can I tell the audio quality of the music I'm downloading. Didn't they have higher quality stuff available earlier? Do they still? How do I know?

View 3 Replies View RelatedUp until yesterday, I had 8gb of RAM in my iMac; two 2gb sticks stock from Apple, and two 2gb cards that I added. With this current configuration, I would have an average temperature of 54 degrees, and never was really higher than 65 degrees. Last night, I removed all four sticks, and I went with four 4gb sticks. Ive noticed now with the 16gb of RAM, my temperature has been from 34-36 degrees. The iMac is faster on wake up as well. I never read anywhere that RAM cools a system down. Is that the case here? I noticed that I had the two stock Apple sticks on one side, and the two new ones on the other side prior to me upgrading to 16gb. Would that be an issue as well?
View 1 Replies View RelatedMine can get hot sometimes and then fans will kick in. Only way to get them to stop is to shut off the Mac for a while. Any other solutions you can do without turning off the Mac?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've been able to avoid using a hub till now, but I am in the market for a powered usb hub - anyone can recommend one that goes along with the look of the MBP or at least looks appropriately geeky
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am a big-time gamer and I recently bought a MacBook where I am doing most of my gaming. I play World of Warcraft on my machine pretty much every day. This was causing my MacBook to get incredibly HOT and also caused the fan to spin like crazy. I looked around a bit and decided to buy the Zefyr from Moshi since I already had their MacBook case, the Codex, and have been really happy with it. I have to say I am really impressed with the Zefyr MacBook cooler. My fan doesn't spin any longer when I'm gaming and you can honestly feel the difference in temperature. Any other hard-core gamers or video / photo editors out there might want to take a look at this!
View 2 Replies View Relatedso ive been hearing around the tubes that the macbook pro i7 and i5 have been over heating...
has the issue been fixed? if not does it overheat less on thev i5 then the i7? or are they about the same?
im thinking of getting a mbp 15" i7 as an alt comp to accompany me when i cant use my quad core pc. so ill mainly use the laptop on my lap and such and i dont want it over heating while on me.
I have spent the past two hours looking for a good review on a laptop cooling pad and haven't found much. I'm aware of where the MBP's vents are located and how that renders most options inefficient. However, I plan on doing some gaming on my 15" MBP and although not very effective I assume a cooling pad would have some effect if only in the 5-10 less degree category.
Any input on a device that is both ergonomically comfortable while lessening the temperature even moderately would be appreciated.
I plan on using 3rd party software to adjust my fan speeds before I begin gaming rather than waiting on the machine to notice the increased temps. SMC seems like the best option any input on this software or general manual adjustment of fan speeds would be appreciated.
I should note i'm not interested in the cooling crystal pads as it seems they only prodive cooling for 2-3 hours.
Post your favorite G5 & Mac Pro Accessories! I just came across this!

Ever see the clear replacement door for the G5? Not the clear air deflector, but an actual replacement door that is clear. Anyone know where to find it?
I have a 2.0 macbook with 2g ram 80gb harddrive with 29gb free. My problem is that my macbook runs idle at around 130-140 degrees fahrenheit. When I go to Youtube it goes up to around 160 degrees and when I go to Google Books and open up a page my macbook reaches around 180 degrees I also do a lot of audio production and temperatures reach a steady 165-180 if I have a fair bit of processing going on.
What the hell is going on? I need to use google books for school and don't think it is safe to use my MB at such high temps. Also with all of the audio work I do I imagine that the lifespan of this computer will not last very long.
I happen to have a Late 2007 MacBook Pro (The specs are in my signature). My model was also the one affected by the 8600Gt issue so I had taken to a nearby Apple Reseller in Dubai in 2008. It's been months since that happened.
However, I've been monitoring my CPU & GPU temperatures and I'm still confused about what is ideal and if I should be worried about anything.
(I took a screenshot of my iStat readings and there's a difference of atleast 11C between the GPU Diode and GPU Heatsink)
Is there anything alarming that I should be worried about?
