Jan 18, 2008Can anyone tell me how to correctly configure Apple Mail (Leopard) with Gmail IMAP so that you don�t have to keep a duplicate of all emails from the �All Mail� folder on my local drive? Basically, when Mail syncs, it downloads all messages, then it downloads them again because they reside in the �All Mail� folder in Gmail�s web interface. Any suggestions would be appreciated as this takes up twice the amount of space that it should.

Feb 4, 2009Is there anyway for me to get pop3 access to my Yahoo account without the need to pay for the yahoo plus service? I would preferably like a free solution as I only use my Yahoo account for personal use.
I am currently using Mac OS X and would like to set this feature up on the Mail app, however, if possible, would also like to set up on my Windows machine.
I have found a program called YPOPS, but cannot find a mac version downlaod. Also, i have read on a website that I am unable to send email using this software as it does not support SMTP ....

Jan 1, 2011I want to set my OH's Mail program to access her yahoo mail account, but it doesn't seem to want to play. I have set my own Hotmail account to work in Mail with no problem, but with Yahoo, when I enter the usual POP3 server info, it just rejects it. Will it make any difference that we are using a.uk Yahoo address instead of a .com one? Or is it impossible to set up a Yahoo email account in Mail on a Mac?

Sep 15, 2009I want to "sync" my yahoo account with the inbox in my Mail app. Basically, when I delete a message in Mail, I want it to automatically delete on the Yahoo server as well. I know I can do this manually by Right-clicking on Inbox -> Get Account Info -> Messages On Server, and then removing them manually, but is there anyway that this can be done automatically (say ... every time a message is removed or every time the Mail app is closed)?

Feb 11, 2009Is it possible to configure Mail.app to mark messages that have been read to be marked as read also on the Gmail server? I hate having 13 new messages in my mail.app, reading them all, and then being on my iphone and having to click on them all or delete them to apply them as read. Opening the messages on the IPhone's mail.app marks the messages as read on the gmail server also. Marking the messages as read using Gmail's native email site, the messages are also marked as read on the iphone mail.app. Why doesn't the native mail.app in OS X do this?

Jun 12, 2010just got a macbook pro and wanted to configure my hotmail accounts to be read in mail 4.2 in such a way any change I did in the webmail could be seen in mail and viceversa. When configuring it automatically (letting mail figure out all my account details) that didn�t happen; I was told that I need to set the account type to Imap for this sync to happen.
When I configure a new account in Mail 4.2 the account type (pop) appears automatically, and there�s no chance I can change it, not even afterwards when going to the account menu.

May 22, 2009I use gmail as my main email account. I have it synched to my iphone (IMAP) and mail.app (IMAP). This was all running smoothly until about a week ago when I turned on my mac and opened mail. It started downloading hundreds of emails.
I looked over them and it seems that all the mails that I have moved to sub folders have been copied to my inbox again and marked as unread.
I have not knowingly changed any settings on my iphone, mac or web based gmail.

Jan 6, 2009Pardon the screen name, new convert with mail issues. I cannot get my POP3 email to receive through Apple's mail client. Settings are correct and I can send a-ok; just not receive. And to make matters more screwy for me, I can get Entourage to work ok; just prefer Mail.

Feb 28, 2010Don't know if this was addressed yet, but "Spam" mail from my gmail (spam folder - duh!) keeps popping up in my "Sent Mail" folder in Mac mail. I found this post online, but am not tech savvy enough to know what they're talking about.

It tells me there is a username or password error. I know this isnt the case because I have tested it by logging into the web version of gmail. I have tried deleting and recreating the account - still the same problem. On my iphone the problem was fixed by using exchange.

I have to physically go to gmail.com to get my email. I have tried to take me account offline and then put it online again, i just dont know how to fix it.

Sep 29, 2010I had a question. Is there a way to use Gmail's IMAP with Apple Mail and configure it so that when the message is deleted on Gmail, It is not deleted in Apple Mail. I have wanted to convert to IMAP for a while but was always concerned with the possibility of Gmail servers accidentally deleting all of my emails and then would in turn delete all of them on my computer and I would have no backup copies of my emails anymore. I like to archive my emails but I like the performance of receiving emails thru IMAP over POP.

For example - when I search for a message, each message will appear two or more times (located in Inbox & All Mail, not inc. any labels), archiving messages isn't exactly easy, and deleting messages doesn't quite.. delete messages.

Apr 15, 2009 Is there anybody that has experience with gmail but accessing it through your mail app. I've read everywhere on google that imap has to be enabled and you have to set up the account correctly on my MBP. I've done all that and half the time I try to delete some e-mails they will look like they get deleted but in about 2-3 mins they come back up on my computer as it downloaded it again.. It never deleted it from gmail... I would rather use imap because it's easier to use with my iphone... Plus I want to have access like I have on my phone but on my computer.. Oct 17, 2009 I've been using Mail.app for my gmail account through IMAP since I upgraded to Snow Leopard just over a month ago, and its been working fine. I've found it to be pretty well integrated in general.But today it stopped working completely. Mail opens, but it's not picking up on any new messages I'm receiving in Gmail, and it won't send anything out.
I think this might have happened when I mistakenly tried to send a 125MB attachment. I tried to send that, it didn't go through (way too big obviously), and since then I haven't been able to send or receive anything. I've logged out, rebooted, taken my Mail.app accounts offline and back online.
