OS X :: Copy And Pasting Files Keeps Giving Insufficient Privileges Error?
Apr 13, 2009Hope someone might be able to help. I am attempting to copy files from a USB attached to my iMac external hard drive to my new NAS drive system, which is connected through my Airport Extreme by gigabit ethernet.I know the NAS is using a file system that I do not recognize (its a WD ShareSpace, 4TB/3TB Raid 5 NAS), which could be causing the problem. Basically I am attempting to transfer all the files stored on the USB external to the NAS. When I copy all the files and paste them to the NAS through Finder, I get an error saying it could not be completed cause I have Insufficient Privileges to do so. There are thousands of files to go through, but I have pinpointed two folders that are causing the problem, which themselves have thousand of files.

Jun 11, 2010I have a number of hard drives I have used over the years to back-up my photos from my memory cards and would now like to create a single ("master") drive with a single copy of each photo I have taken. Unfortunately there is a far bit of overlap on the multiple drives - that is, the same exact photo has been backed up to more then one drive and quite possibly in a different directory location. Is there a program for the Mac that will compare what is already on the "master" drive and just copy over the unique photos from each separate hard drive?

May 26, 2010I've just starting using Carbon Copy Cloner, and I'm running my first initial backup right now, and it's causing freezes everywhere on my Mac. Sep 4, 2010I just did a restoree and reformat of macbook. I have installed all the programs that were on before but do not have teh Mac Office disk and product key to reinstall it. I saved the officepid.plist file from system before refromat. I thought I could just install the trial version and then replace this file in the system. It is not working though.

Jun 19, 2014so i used to be able to copy a group of items or a folder and paste it and if it was a larger file, it would take a little while. well, while that was pasting in the new location i could then copy a new set of items and paste them in another location. it would then process the paste of both of these things at the same time. it no longer does this. when i paste the second group of items, it sits there "estimating" until the first group of items is done.

May 3, 2010Well, I am learning how important drag and drop is on OSX. There is no Cut/Paste of files and many tricks require dragging on top of an apps' icon. So, I hate the tap to click and I can't stand the unibody trackpad click and drag. I can't seem to keep it depressed and drag across the entire High Res screen. Is there any alternative? Say a key I can hold to lock the click so I don't have to keep the pad depressed?

Jun 3, 2008I downloaded MTR to rip some of the Region 1 DVDs I own. My MAC is set to Region 2, as I am in Belgium. At the end of the rips I receive a message saying that the disk has bad sectors and may not be played properly. Indeed, VLC refuses to play the ripped files... I know that this is most likely the Arccos protection. However, I thought that MTR 2.6.6 was able to remove it. You can even select this in under the "Mode" section, there are two options to strip off the Arccos protection.

Up until this afternoon I was able to copy the thai text and paste it into Google translate, obviously not the ideal but I can understand the jist of the document, that was all I needed. Stupidly I went and had a look at the languages settings as some characters were copying over as hollow squares. Now all that is copying over is the squares and if I copy it into word or pages I get either squares or an alien head inside a square!

Sep 10, 2014I've never noticed this previously but as I was moving files around this morning I noticed that I was not moving all the files in a folder, only 128 of them at a time.
The workflow is as follows: select folder in Finder, click on a file, cmd-A to select all, cmd-c to copy them, select other folder, cmd-v.
Instead of 374 files moving, only 128 do.

Jun 23, 2012I'm not sure when it started, though it was definitely after I updated to Lion, pasting into Textedit started taking longer and longer!
It doesn't seem to matter how much I'm pasting; I tested it by pasting one word, and pasting a paragraph, and they both took long enough that the spinning wheel came up for several seconds.

Aug 30, 2010I like to write a personal newsletter, then paste it into emails and send. It's easier for me to work on it in Word first. I can't figure out a format that I can use in Word so that when I copy and paste it in Apple Mail email, it keeps the same format. So far, it changes format when I paste it. what was in bold, is no longer (or the whole thing is in bold), line spacing changes, bullet points change. I tried saving it as pdf file first and the font became microscopic when I pasted it into the email...

I am NOT talking about adding it as an attachment, and am NOT talking about simply adding an icon within the message which the recipient must then click on in order to open up and see the screenshot. What I am talking about is PASTING the screenshot/picture directly into the body of the mail so that the recipient can see it right away the same way it can be done in Outlook. I have seen up to this point completely misses the mark by explaining how to add an icon (which needs to be clicked to be seen) within the mail rather than answering how the image can be shown in the message itself.

I have 4 x 500MB drives in my Mac Pro and 4 x 500MB external firewire drives.
Currently I use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone each internal drive to it's respective backup. ie Drive 1 > Backup 1, Drive 2 > Backup 2 etc
Is it possible to use Timemachine in a similar way? so that each internal drive has it's own corresponding Timemachine backup?
