Mar 1, 2009I downloaded Perian so I could view FLV files with quicktime. When I save as, it will save them as a .mov file. When i upload the video to my iweb portfolio, I get this message ( only with the those changed from FLV to .mov) all other videos are fine.

Dec 6, 2010I'm unable to update from 10.6.4 Snow Leopard to the 10.6.5 Security Update - either from built-in Software Update, the downloaded 10.6.5 Combo update, or the full 644MB OS X 10.6.5 Update. Using Disk Utility to Verify or Repair Disk Permissions I see the error - "Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreS. As been modified and will not be repaired". Also my Mac Mini 2.0Ghz 4GB RAM, 320GB HDD is pretty much on 24/7 and I've rebooted several times after each attempt listed above and running Disk Utility before each reboot and before each attempt.
An aside to this, I'm unable to use the numeric keys above the keypad on my Apple Keyboard Pro [aluminum] for the past 20days. Yes I've checked System Preferences:
Keyboard: Restore Defaults, Full keyboard access = All Controls, Modifier keys = [only Apple Keyboard is selectable], and I've restored defaults, Expose Fkeys have been removed [tried and set back to no avail]. Lastly, I'm unable to use the powered USB ports on my Dell monitor which worked just a few days ago before my wife moved around the desk - doubtful she would've damaged anything [she knows I'm anal about the Mac - I work with PCs]. I'm unsure if all are related and I DO recall having to do the 10.6.4 Combo update from the original shipping Snow Leopard. Have I missed anything to test?

Oct 17, 2009Has anyone else noticed their MBP running slightly hotter since the recent performance upgrade?
My MBP's CPU was previously idling at about 37C, and is suddenly idling at anything between 44-50C, seemingly for no reason (no extra processes running that I'm aware of, and no changes in general usage), and hasn't dropped below 42C in days. I realise this isn't hot, by a long shot, but it's a pretty noticeable increase from my previous idling temperatures, so I'm naturally a bit curious.
I've cleaned out the vent with compressed air (though the MBP is very new, so I wasn't expecting much effect), and that predictably did nothing to bring the temperature back down to its former average... so I'm wondering now if there's something in the performance upgrade that makes the CPU run a little hotter than it would've done before?

However, it doesn't seem to be able to play the same file formats as my older quicktime version. I used to be able to play mkv files with Quicktime 7 using perisan but with the new Quicktime it doesnt seem to be able to play it even though the new Perian release should play the same formats with the new QT.

OS X :: Cannot Install Perian - Permissions Denied
Jan 2, 2010So I decided to install Perian today on my SL 10.6.2. I ran it and it created an icon in the Pref Pane, but when I clicked on the icon and then hit the Install button, nothing happened. I tried it several times and even restarted my MBP, but still nothing. I then tried opening Console to see what happens when I hit the Install button in Perian, and I saw several msgs saying Permission Denied.
What the heck is this? I've already experienced some permissions issues lately when I tried to copy mp3s onto my USB key, so I ran the OnyX maintenance just yesterday - but to no avail. I still can't copy most of my mp3s onto USB. And I don't really see a reason why I should repair permissions once again today just because of Perian? I really don't get this Mac OS permissions crap. I am the only user on this computer and am therefore an Admin, so what is all the fuss about permissions?
OS X :: Unable To Updating Latest Security Update 2009-001 And Java 10.5 Update 3?
Feb 14, 2009I have problems since applying the latest security Update 2009-001 and Java 10.5 Update 3, I have 10.5.6 on the new unibody 2.4ghz and have completely lost the ability to connect to my wireless access point which is an apple airport extreme base station.
I can sometimes se the base station but cannot connect to it and sometimes cannot see it at all. I have three other apple computers at home all less then a year old running the same build of 10.5.6 but have not updated them and they all are fine.
This one was perfect untill I applied the update.
The machine I am having problems with is partitioned with windows 7 beta on it which has no problems connecting to the base station, which indicates that its not a hardware problem but more then likely the update which is causing the problem.
Is there a way to uninstall the last update or delete it? Any one with a similar problem or know how I can fix it, I have googled but cannot seem to find anyone with similar problems.

"A network error has occurred. Check your Internet connection, and then try again."
This has been happening for over a week now. Looking at the Console I get the error:
"4/10/12 8:03:54.398 AM Software Update: Error: The operation couldn’t be completed. (NSURLErrorDomain error -3001.) (NSURLErrorDomain code -3001)"
I've verified and repiared disk permissions a couple of times and restarted the system with no success.

Sep 24, 2009I have a student who put most of her project work for the past few semesters on an Western Digital hard drive which was in a I/O Magic shell. It was dropped and immediately started a grinding noise. She took it to the local mac guru who has been unable to recover any of the data. My gut tells me it's a goner but I wanted to run it by the gurus here to see if they might recommend anything that we might try before giving up.

Sep 27, 2009Since about the 3rd day after I got my macbook pro the computer has been making cracking sounds when I open it. When it first started it just simply made one clicking sound when the hinge is halfway open. Now however, When it is open it makes cracking sounds that don't stop ( open 15 cracking sounds per open). Is this a serious issue that I need to address with my local (and very mean) genius or is this issue not going to continue to get progressively worse. If this does continue to get worse will the hinge crack open? what is this worst that could happen?

I've tried a few of these programs on the Windows side, and find that they're usually so constricting that your covers look generic, or they require you to be an Adobe Illustrator expert just to get anything done. Mar 8, 2009I have loads of AVI files taken with our stillshot camera, and loads with our Panasonic semi professional 3 chip whatever they are called video camera.
It seems, or seemed perhaps that AVI's can't be loaded or edited in iMovie(I am also not interested in using quicktime etc, I want to try and stick with iMovie)
Can you import the AVI files as well as the "real" format clips into iMovie and then edit all together to make your home movie?
