Every time I pause something in iTunes ( usually a longer file, radio show, podcast ) theres this horrendous freeze that happens...
This started after I updated to 8.1.1
Anyone else have this issue ?
Recently iTunes has started randomly pausing, regardless of the song. Usually every few minutes. I have like 500 songs so it ain't the songs. What's going on?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been having a terrible issue for the past serveral months. I have a MacBookPro and I do bunch of app updates every week or buy apps and music. Howerver, it seems almost everytime I download apps, it gets stuck in the "Downloads" section. It starts downloading than just sits there stalled 1/2 way. I'll have to maybe pause the download and re-activate 4-10times before it goes all the way through. I have no Idea how to fix this. I thought maybe it was the wireless so I plugg directly into the switch and still same issue.
Anyone have thoughts on what I can do to reslove this?
Is anyone else having the problem with iTunes 8 where your iMac freezes completely (only the mouse will move but you can't click anything)? I started having this problem after upgrading to 10.5.5 and iTunes 8.0.1.

Most of the questions people had ever never answered (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=791337) or the posts where from 2+ years ago and not that relevant to the newer releases of iTunes.
Anyway, I decided to do a bit of song searching on iTunes today. I have a bunch of songs from the DDR series that I wanted to find the original, full versions of. So I opened up iTunes (which took about 30 seconds to load, mouse cursor pinwheeling the entire time) and opened up a playlist of said songs in a separate window. In the main window I opened up the iTunes store and started my search. To pass the time, I played the playlist in the background while switch between the two windows to check song tiles, artist names, and the like. While searching for songs, iTunes would randomly start pinwheeling for ~5 seconds, music still playing in the background. The same thing happened when I tired to change to a different song in the playlist. I tried to open TextEdit so I could copy down the songs I couldn't find in the iTunes store and the system pinwheeled yet again. It 5+ seconds to open TextEdit. Even when I'm running Firefox with multiple tabs and windows open, it opens instantly.
I know my machine is a bit old (Early 2008 MBP 2.4 C2D) but its not ancient. I'm running 4GB for crying out loud. I've had similar issues in the past that got so bad I stopped using iTunes all together for awhile. I've tried installing iTunes, uninstalling iTunes, even going so far as to remove most of the iTunes-related fumes from my Library. Nothing seems to help.
I'm at a loss to why this is happening. Originally I thought it was a corrupt library or something, but I've rebuilt my library and it was a temporary fix. Anyone here have ideas about what I can do?
I have converted my dvd's to .mp4's, and itunes just wont add some of them. I've tried dragging the file as well as importing, and itunes simply does nothing. Also, with the movies that I was able to add, when I try to alter the artwork, Itunes stops responding.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a new MBP 2.53+4gb and it constantly is pausing. Even as I type this after 10 words I have to wait a few seconds for the next 5 to show up. If I'm scrolling it'll just stop scrolling and then jump half the page. I'm not using up too many resources as I'm only using firefox/aim/email. But the pausing occurs whether I'm just reading the news or using photoshop.
(Also about a month ago my hard drive crashed and I returned my computer to apple where they installed a new hard drive and OS.)
So my question is: Is this a common issue that has been addressed and fixable? If so please direct me. If not, is there anything I can try before taking it back to the Apple store...again?
I've always had problems using my Canon MP560 with my MBP (13" early 2011).Â
The main problem I am currently having is that when I send multiple jobs to the printer, it enters pause mode between each job; I have to go into the printer queue and click Resume to print the next job.Â
I've removed and readded the printer countless times over the last six months and I worry that if I have to do the same again I'll just be confronted with yet another problem...Â

There has been an ongoing issue with new MacBook and MacBook Pro computers where the system will pause for a second or two and make a clicking sound, and then continue functioning normally. This problem has to do with models containing a 7200RPM 500GB hard drive from Seagate, where the drive randomly stalls and beeps, causing a pause in the active system processes that can last up to 10 seconds. As reported in this CNET article, Apple is looking into the problem and a fix should be out shortly.
Both brand-new and slightly older models of the Unibody MacBook computers may be affected, and currently there does not appear to be a fix; however, if you are experiencing this problem, the best course of action is to wait for a fix from Apple. Some people have recommended reinstalling the operating system and performing PRAM and SMC resets, but this issue appears to be a firmware incompatibility so changing the operating system setup or firmware settings will not help.
Keep in mind that this behavior is not the same as when a hard drive is dying, where regular clicks and pauses happen, followed by spinning beach balls when the system cannot access the storage media. This AppleInsider article links to a couple of YouTube videos that show how this behavior manifests itself, so check them out if you think your system has this problem. When the fix is released, it should be in the form of a firmware update so keep an eye out for one in the near future. In our higher education Mac computer lab, a printer may become paused (I am not sure why). But this requires an administrator password to unpause the printer, which only the admin in another building has. Is there a way to stop this type of activity? What causes a printer to become paused? Is there a way to not require admin status to continue?

A few days ago, my itunes began freezing shortly after startup. It would take forever to get through the "checking library" phase and then once it fully opened it would freeze. This may coincide with it beginning to download some itunes-u content in qeue, but i can't keep it running long enough to get into the store to cancel the downloads, if that's what it is. updating the software but everytime i try it says "software is up to date", even though it was just told me that one is available. I've tried removing and reinstalling and have got nowhere. I may have actually made it angrier. I have over 109 days of music that I can't listen to and and an iphone I can't add/remove files from.

Yesterday, iTunes installed an update to 10.6.3, and since then freezes less than a minute after launch. The beachball just spins and iTunes is completely unresponsive. It is usually downloading a new podcast at the time, but that is simply because that's the first thing iTunes does if I'm not syncing. Â
I tried restarting. I tried restarting in Safe Mode. I tried restarting without anything connected to any ports. I tried uninstalling iTunes, restarting, installing a new download from apple website, and restarting again. Â
I'm not sure what to do next..Everything was working fine up the the moment the upgrade finished. Â
I'm running a fairly new Macbook Air running OSX 10.7.4 with all software updated.

I have a new 13" MBP and recently a problem arose and it is annoying the hell out of me. Pretty often(i'd say once every 30 minutes of web browsing)while doing simple web browing, everything will lock up and I will get the beachball for a solid minute. If iTunes is open and playing when this is going to happen, the music pauses like 3 seconds before everything else freezes. Has anyone ever seen this, and if so do you have a solution?
View 8 Replies View RelatedMine is only a month old after being replaced due to a fault and now after the IOS 5.1 update it freezes when I try to unlock it and it has also frozen at the end of a call meaning I couldn't finish the call. I had to hold both buttons to reset it which doesn't always fix the freeze the first time.Also I have noticed that all my calendar notifications on the dashboard have gone too. No matter what I do with the notifications in the settings the calendar won't appear.

All I'm trying to do as add a few playlists to my iPad 2...When it's connected through either Wi-Fi or USB, while I'm trying to manage any of my iPads settings, iTunes completely freezes after EVERY mouse-click. Example:I click on my iPad in the iTunes sidebar ..."Spinning Beach-ball" for several seconds.I click on the "Music" tab at the top ..."Spinning Beach-ball" for another minute or two.I check one playlist ..."Spinning Beach-ball" for 5 minutes!!! It's being run on an Early 2008 Mac Pro running OS X 10.7.4 and is used to sync an iPhone 4 and iPad 1, both running iOS 5.1.1. I've rebooted my machine and even reinstalled iTunes 10.6.1 with no success.

Recently I've started creating and using Smart Playlists. And ever since I created a Smart Playlist - when I make any change to the metadata (artist, album title, anything at all - even just changing one letter) - iTunes freezes up for about 10 to 20 seconds as the wheel spins and iTunes processes the new information. But in the meantime iTunes is rendered completely frozen up for me. Same thing happens if I begin importing (whether from CD or just dragging) new music. Is this sort of thing normal? I assume it's the program processing the new information for the Smart Playlist, but for pete's sake, does it have to render the complete program useless? Smart Playlists are a nice idea, but they have made iTunes a nightmare to deal with!

My iTunes freezes a lot since last December and it's really annoying and frustrating when it happens now. I get the whole beach ball thingy and sometimes need to Force Quit applications and still sometimes that doesn't seem to alleviate the problem. So a friend suggested to create a whole new iTunes library and see if I get the same issues of freezing on this newly created library. I left my MBA over at my girlfriends house the past couple days so she could use it for some miscellaneous stuff. Well after renting a movie on Itunes last night, it started out fine and dandy but then started freezing and skipping. I tried most everything I could think of to no avail.
The movies will play fine for about 10 to 15 minutes at max and then will continue to start freezing and skipping again, everything else also runs pretty slow in general. I'm not sure if there is a heat problem as the AC at her place is on the crapper and she uses it mostly on her bed, though it looks like the CPU temp never really gets much hotter than 160F.
Im thinking about just doing a clean sweep and reinstalling OS X, I never know what she does sometimes and you never know if there is a hidden problem. Any other ideas? I'm very new to Macs in general and am not sure what the common problems are with MBAs

Mac is running latest OSX Mavericks software.... But lately, my Mac is crashing repeatedly when I attempt to use iTunes or iBooks, both also the latest releases. Syncing with either iTunes or iBooks is nearly impossible. No disk repair or verification errors. I am thinking that there is some rogue software glitch that has me. I am thinking that I need to do a factory reset followed by a time machine data recovery.Â
