I have a brand new i5 imac. I have rebuilt the library, fixed permissions, exported to aperature, reinstalled the latest iPhoto and osx updates. All with the same result of some of my pictures only showing thumbnails. As soon as I double click them the screen goes black.
View 1 RepliesWhen editing a photo, adjusting things in the Adjust pane sometimes makes the picture disappear and I have to click Done to go back to the main window to see anything. Anyone else had this problem and has anyone found a way to solve it? I'm running latest iPhoto and SL. I've trashed Prefs, of course.

I'm really trying to avoid paying 200 bucks for PhotoShop. If not in iPhoto, is there another program that comes with my mac, that I can use?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an iMac desktop computer, Intel based, with Snow Leopard running on it. When I am running iPhoto the small photos appear in the right pane as they should. However, when I double click on one of the photos to enlarge it, many of them will show a black screen with a white circle and a black exclamation point in the white circle. When I click it again, it returns to the smaller size and is visible. If I use the slider, the pictures will get bigger but when I double click on them the black screen with the exclamation point appears. Again, when I click the black screen, the smaller picture re-appears. This phenomenon does not happen on all of the pictures, just some. Also, the photos that this occurs on are not copies of the originals. When I highlite the photo to edit it and click on edit the screen also goes black. Does anyone have a clue as to what is causing this and how I might fix it?
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I import video from my Creative's Vado HD Pocket Video camcorder on a month old MacBook Pro the video files in each event are black. They have no image. When I click on them I can see the video but I would prefer to see an image which makes identifying each video much easier.
Is there anything I can do so that I can see an image?
I have added music from i tunes to my slideshow but cannot edit the length of the songs/ or edit in any way?or is it better to do in I DVD?? basically i dont want to play the entire song i select - but add in and out points.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have been working on a project in iMovie for a few days, and it has been working perfectly. Today, I opened up my project and I could not play the project (the red line would move, but no picture would show up in the upper right hand corner box) and ALL of the options in the "share" tab were gray and unable to click them. Many options in the "edit" and "file" tabs were unable to be clicked as well.
Another project i completed months ago is working perfectly. The clips in the events play/show up on the window in the upper right hand corner
Why is it when I view my photo's in iphoto some are blacked out ? If I dbl click on them they become visible and if I edit them and save they appear visible in the spot in iphoto where they came from . I have several like this . All photo's visible and blacked out are taken by the same camera .
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a desperate friend who created about an hour long slide show in iPhoto using "Vintage Prints" theme --it has a black background with photos getting dropped in. There are four segments she wants me to edit together for the whole show for her daughter's graduation party. Is there any way to get rid of that black background and replace it with a solid color background or texture? I have tons of animated textures and backgrounds but I can't figure out how to bring them to the rescue since the .mov is already created...I thought of keying but 'black' isn't the new chromakey blue or green thought of a garbage mask but the shapes of the photos and collages dropping in are not constant..
I didn't see a way in iPhoto to convert that black background to white or color either.

I have about 20 hours of low res digicam videos sitting in iphoto. When I launch Imovie, it loads all 20 hours without asking then proceeds to quit unexpectedly if I try to do anything. Is there a way to prevent iphoto from loading all of them without deleting the videos from my iPhoto library? I have about a 30 minute video I would like to edit I'm frustrated.How about removing all those clips except the ones I care about? Can I do that? (after waiting 20-30 minutes for them to load)
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just imported some photos into IPhoto 09 and shortly afterwards my IMac did a hard shut down. Now when I open IPhoto I get the following error:
The Photo Library nees to be upgraded to work with this version of IPhoto.
After that I click on upgrade and get the following msg:
Can't open current photo library using this version of Iphoto.
Thought I'd start this thread for people to discover/add any info they have on what iPhoto Faces is doing behind the scenes to help with troubleshooting, since Apple doesn't have any preferences for Faces in the iPhoto GUI. This is only for people who like to understand what is happening behind the scenes. Please note this is not for everyone and anytime you do anything to your iPhoto library you risk corruption and should have a backup copy. What I've noticed so far:
- iPhoto scans the library the first time it opens, and creates 2 faces .db files with the iPhoto Library:
face_blob.db
face.db
- iPhoto creates Faces thumbnails files and places them in the iPhoto Library/Data folder along with the other thumbnails it creates................
I am transferring info from an iBook G4 running Tiger to a MacBook running Snow Leopard. Everything is going well, except for my ability to transfer the iPhoto library. I have mounted the iBook to the MacBook via Firewire. When I transferred my iPhoto library from my MB to my new MBP, it was easy: all I had to do was drag over "iPhoto Library" from User>Pictures>iPhoto Library But it isn't set up the same way on the iBook: in User>Pictures, "iPhoto Library" is a folder instead of a small iPhoto icon (which you would need to right-click on to see its contents). When I copied the contents of the folder into "iPhoto Library" on the new MacBook, it didn't maintain all of the organization (eg. the albums). Is there any way to do this so that iPhoto will keep the organization of the photo library on the new MacBook, or am I destined to reorganize my thousands of photos into albums again? Please keep in mind that the MacBook is being set up as a new computer, and I am copying over the files/docs/music/photos that she wants to keep from the iBook. I am not using Migration Assistant.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a .mkv file on my iMac and when I rename it, it works but it also doesn't work.
I rename it by clicking on the .mkv file and clicking Get Info, then I can enter in the new file name there.
But then when I did open the file in VLC Player, it shows the original file name which is something stupid like "dizo".
I'm looking for a program which will let me edit this file name properly (hope that made sense).
I can not find where to edit the url and right now it is just sitting there.is there a account or something I can change so that I am able to MOVE ON dealing with godaddy as well.

It is from a DVD that was filmed during a church service. The format shows up as .VOB. But it will not let me import this into iMovie to edit. What format do I have to have to import it and be able to edit? Does it have to be .avi? mp4?
I made a short movie in iMovie 09. Into the project I imported a song from my iTunes. Then I wanted to fade the music because it lasted longer than the video. So I clicked on the little gear that brings up the clip trimmer. But rather than bring up the clip trimmer the software crashes. Again and again and again.

Because my Macbook doesn't have a firewire port, I'm planning to use my friend's iMac to import the footage onto my external hard drive (ie select the hard drive from the pop-up menu on the import sheet as recommended here. Once the footage is on my external hard drive will I have to do the editing on the iMac, or can I edit it in my Macbook? The 2nd option is preferable as I can then do the editing at home instead of at my friend's place. If that's possible, how do I import it into the macbook? And also, my friend's iMac has iMovie '08, I have '09 - does that matter?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI ahve just bought a Canon EOS 450D. I am hoping to start taking alot of photos with this camera in RAW format. I like how easy to use iPhoto is and I love all the other things iPhoto can do such as Books and Calendars etc.
I like using DPP (Canon's Digital Photo Proffesional), to edit the RAW photos as there are alot of settings in there for editing RAW's.
At the moment I use iPhoto to import my photos from my camera and then organise them using iPhoto. I have set iPhoto to edit the photo i click on in DPP when i want to edit and that is all fine and good until I make a change in DPP. The change dosnt appear in iPhoto. I am wondering if it is something to do with the fact that DPP can not see the iPhoto library.
Is there anyway to make my current setup work or dose anyone have any suggestions as to a better way to import, organise and edit my photos.
How would one go about editing a PDF. Also, if I edit it, I don't want anyone to be able to "undo" my changes and reveal the old content. It would also be nice if possible, if there is a way to "lock" the file such that it cannot be edited further.
View 1 Replies View RelatedLike most people i have a lot of music and need a decent program to catalogue it all. iTunes seems to be the best candidate though i really cannot stand it's organisation heirarchy.
I already have my music organised into genre folders of my own but some of it has the wrong ID3 data attached to it. I'd love to use iTunes as a tool to sort these tags out but i don't want iTunes to move or copy any of my music (around 230GB) as i can't afford to lose the space.
A big chunk of my music are wavs and all MP3's are 320 bitrate (i play professionally). Has anyone worked out a way to do this?
I also haven't found out a way to tag Wavs, i know that natively wavs dont support ID3 information and someone mentioned a good thing to do is to convert to FLAC which does... but im not sure of an automated way to do this...
I have a saved library file on my macbook pro (where all my music is catalogued and organised fully with iTunes) which i'd love to migrate over to my PC - (being used as a data backup source) so i dont have to sort all these tags out again. Of course i realise this is probably not possible cue to the differeing locations of data between my MBP and PC, but i wonder if there maybe a shortcut to save me from having to edit everything twice?
