Ever since upgrading to Firefox 3 on both my Mac Pro and my Mac Book Pro I am repeatedly getting a rainbow spinning pinwheel. Firefox will work for 2-5 minutes and then I get the rainbow spinning pinwheel for about a minute then Firefox will work for 2-5 minutes then the spinning wheel again. This is how its been since I upgraded to Firefox 3. I never had this problem with Firefox 2. This is very frustrating because Firefox is my preferred browser.
The extensions I have installed are:
AdBlock Plus
ColorfulTabs
CustomizeGoogle
Foxmarks Bookmark Synchronizer
Tab Mix Plus
PDF Download
TagSifter
1Password

New imac is running sweet. However, I see the pinwheel at times when I never do on my 13" MacBook Pro. I see it in two instances. First, when accessing the screen saver settings in system preferences. I do have over 9,000 photos and have the screen saver set to shuffle. Maybe that's the issue? I also see the pinwheel when waking up the computer from sleep. It could be the LED screen lights up so quickly now, the processor has to catch up? I have not done a reinstall of 10.6.2 and have installed Parallels and Windows 7. Anybody else having similar symptoms?

I have 512 mb of RAM on my ibook G4. Lately something is eating it up. I looked on the Activity Monitor and couldn't see anything different. Now when I open more than one page on a website, the RAM goes down to about 29 mb. and then the site freezes with the little rainbow pinwheel spinning. I can't get it to stop with the Apple/period technique.
Also, I have over 3 gigs of virtual memory but it's looks like it's not being tapped into so that I don't run out of RAM.

I just bought a 13 inch macbook pro about 2 days after the keynote, and it came in on the 15th. I opened it up and it worked pretty good. I noticed I saw the spinning pinwheel a little more than I think I should. My cousin's macbook did it less frequently than my new macbook pro. It was happening when I opened iTunes or Safari. So a few days ago I opened up iTunes and I saw the pinwheel, but then it kept going, and going, and itunes froze up and crashed. After that it has happened several times. The same with safari and iMovie. I am sort of angry because I spent a good amount of money on this and I don't think it should be happening. I can live with it, but I certainly hope this isn't the norm! I switched to mac so things would be easier.

Recently, iPhoto has completely stopped working. When I open the application, everything is blank and the rainbow pinwheel begins spinning and does not stop. I have to Forcequit the application. I tried removing iPhoto (placed in trash and emptied) and reloaded with my iLife disk but I am still having the same issue. Can anyone advise what the issue could be and how to fix? I have a Macbook Pro (intel) with Leopard installed.

iTunes 10.6.1 has started freezing after launch (just the pinwheel is seen spinning). The Activity Monitor indicates it's not responding and consuming 0% CPU. It's being run on an Early 2008 Mac Pro running OS X 10.7.4 and is used to sync an iPhone 4 and iPad 1, both running iOS 5.1.1. I've rebooted my machine and even reinstalled iTunes 10.6.1 with no success.

When I have documents open and I walk away for a few minutes, when I come back and resume working, my computer freezes up and the little pinwheel starts spinning. I literally have to unplug it to get out of this frozen state. This has been getting progressively worse over the past three months. They told me to add more memory, which I did. However, the problem persists. Do you know why my computer would freeze up after the screen has had no activity for just a few minutes? My screen saver is set for an hour so I know this is not the problem.

I don't know what my wife did to her 13" white MacBook, but Firefox is slow as molasses. Safari is working perfectly, but all of her bookmarks are in Firefox. I made sure she was on the correct network, than added opendns settings to DNS. I downloaded and installed the most recent Firefox and repaired permissions on the drive. I rebooted - same problem. Random beachballs causing the app to be useless. Safari works perfectly, so it's not an Internet issue. I haven't tried other apps to be sure but right now it seems confined to Firefox.

My 2 year old Macbook pro has started to run really slowly, with the multi coloured pinwheel appearing whenever I try to do something. I've taken this to the Apple store, and have been told that it's either the hard drive that has given up and will need to be replaced, or that it's the cable connecting the hard drive to the laptop.

Don't know whats going on but since about a month it takes about 30+ seconds between the moment i start Firefox and the moment it display my homepage (the browser window appear but stay blank all the time). Once it's started though it's all fine. Safari in comparison starts in a couple of seconds. I have tried vaious firewall settings but it doesn't seems to help. The only plug-in i have installed is Flip4Mac. My computer is the 2.0GHz aluminium MacBook.

My firefox is all up to date. Within the last few days, firefox has been running very slow for me. Whenever I click or do anything, it takes a while to respond. Very frustrating. This is happening on my iMac. My girlfriend's parents are having the same issue with Firefox in Windows. I am trying to move all my bookmarks to Safari, but when I highlight multiple bookmarks to drag and drop, it only copies one of them. Anyone know how to fix the slowness or the dragging bookmarks??

This has been ongoing since I upgraded to Safari 4.0 in my new uMBP 17" running 10.5. Since then I've upgraded Safari to the most recent 4.0.3 always hoping this issue will get fixed. Instead it is happening more and more frequently. Because it could be a number of things I've avoided posting here about it. Yesterday I upgraded to 10.6 (Snow Leopard) hoping that would resolve it but no. At this point I can't stand it and want to throw my machine out the window. Here's the specifics. The spinning pinwheel of frustration lasts anywhere from 15 seconds to a minute, expect after I upgraded to 10.6-- now sometimes after a minute I force quit from frustration. I run Little Snitch and always deny random things on Yahoo mail so perhaps denying some of these things cause it. I also run a lot of RAM intense software (AE, FCP) very often and thought this could take a toll, but this happens even after a fresh restart with only Safari being the only application running or even opened. I have 4Gb RAM. It's so frustrating I'll probably go back to Firefox but thought maybe this has come up before.

Yesterday morning during working on the mac, the system started to become extremely slow till the point that even the mouse didn't respond any longer and I only got the spinning ball showing. No webpages opened up any longer and closing the program I was working in (Sibelius 7), took a very long time. Â
I did a system clean with Onyx (for Lion), did a virus and trojan check and followed the advice on the Viruses page in this forum on checking the firewall. It wx After that everything seemed to be OK and the system was fast again. Now after about 1 hour working, again it styartys to show the same symtoms, getting slower and having the spinning ball showing up more ad more.Â

Running 10.3.9 on a G4 iBook, suddenly started getting a verrrrry slow start up. Everyting fine up to the log in screen, choose user, enter passw, go through bits of blue screen right up until the wallpaper loads then, bam, on with the brakes. Spinning beachball, plus date, time, battery, language, volume, intnet connect, applescript and network icons all appearing one by one, very lazily, with no menu bar behind them. Takes a good couple of minues, thereafter everything ok. This doesn't happen when I reboot in safe mode. I've got about 30pc hard drive available, run a few bits of basic maintenance, but so far nothing.

Today, I decided to reinstall Mac OS X Snow Leopard on my iMac, to have a fresh & new copy of Mac OS. I've done this before on my Macbook, and it worked perfectly. The iMac would not read the original Reinstall DVD that came with it. Instead, it would eject it, though it would work it on another Mac. But when I inserted my Snow Leopard disk that I bought separately, it worked.
However, when I entered the reinstall screen, it is extremely slow and I nearly can't use it. I did already use the Disk Utility to erase the hard disk files. So, it is extremely slow, and it wouldn't install either. All I get is the amour of time left, but it doesn't change, just gives me a waiting spinning wheel. It's been stuck on the screen for several hours.
The iMac was bought in January, I believe. What should I do?? This is very weird. Should I take it to the Apple Store, or is there a way to fix it?
