Is there any sort of "bridge" software that allows a terminal emulation program, say, Z-Term, to use Skype as a modem? It seems silly to pay for connections to BBS's when I've got SkypeOut, but I haven't been able to find a way to do this.

Is there anything out there that I could use so I can pop a xbox 360 disk into my mac and play the game? I have a loaded macbook pro so, the system pref are up there for speed and graphics. I'm aware that the xbox 360 is one powerful machine and that people had some trouble making a emulator work on a pc. I've done some research and what I've found is that some people use mac g5 for game servers running 360 games. I'm also noticed that they made guitar hero 3 for pc and a bunch of xbox 360 based games for it. Since you can play that on a pc, wouldn't one think that an xbox 360 emulator for a mac would work? I would like to find an xbox 360 emulator for the mac os x. Can anyone help me out? If there isn't a such thing right now, what would one have to do to make something like this become a reality?

I have been beating my head against a wall for weeks trying to boot into Windows. So after weeks of searching for a solution and many attempts of re-installing both Windows and OSX. I am at the mercy of some of the very MAC wise folks here. So I will try and be as brief as I can.
I have a first gen Mac Pro that has worked great since I bought it in 2006. I have bought a Gforce 8800GT 1st gen upgrade video card. Bought it the first day it shipped, like a lot of other people. I followed the the thread that pushed apple for a upgrade for us early adopters. And am glad that apple listened to their customers and made a compatible ROM for the card.
So now to my problem and why I think it maybe a EFI issue. While waiting and reading about the then rumored video card upgrade, I tried to use a PC version of the 8800 GT, same card with a PC ROM. Well If I would of read more first I would of known that it would not work, and was really just taking a chance and thought that somewhere someone would make this work. Boy was I wrong. So after taking out the card and putting back in my 7300 stock card, I can no longer boot into windows. I get a blue screen stop error 0X000000CA (0X0000002, 0X89A0B0C0, 0X00000000, 0X00000000). Didn't turn up much searching for that error. So the symptom I have is as follows: power on holding down the option key, click on my windows disk partition on a separate NTFS formated HD, the computer try's to boot into windows, but after just a quick flash of Windows XP splash screen then straight to the blue screen. Now fast forward a week. apple releases the upgrade, took the PC cad back, ordered the MAC upgrade hopping this would fix the problem, It didn't. So I do a total re-install. I totaly reinstall OSX on a fresh HD, run all updates for 10.5.2. I put in another fresh drive in and run Boot camp to install a fresh copy of XP. The CD installs the startup files to RAM, then enters the setup partition/format screen. I chose new partition select NTFS full option, the HD formats. Now windows loads the install files to the hard drive and reboots. Now I am back to where I started. OSX works perfect XP will not even install new, much less boot into the old partition that is on another HD that I have pulled out right now, I also went back to the 7300, no change. I can hit F8 and get the advanced menu, if I select safe mode it freezes and goes to blue screen. If I move either of the cards to another slot I get the same result but the Mac Pro reboots in an endless cycle after a quick blue flash. In the 16x slot it just freezes on the blue screen.
So after searching for someone with the same problem it seems I cannot find a solution other then what I have read about EFI and that it is basically emulating a BIOS so windows can boot up on the Intel hardware. So am I even thinking in the right area? Have I some how corrupted the EFI firmware? Any suggestions? I bought the Mac Pro to run Pro Tools in windows along with Windows only apps. I use final cut pro in OSX, but I spend most of my time in Windows using the awesome power of the machine. I like OSX but it is not a total OS solution for me, I really like having a hybrid, and VM's and such in OSX will not work with Pro Tools.

Anyone know a good, free emulator to emulate Windows on PPC? I know it wont be terribly fast, just want to experiment/try it out. Also, alot of sites suggest the use of Windows 98 over XP, I know Vista would be a train reck but Windows 7 is as fast as XP so i wonder how that would how fast that would be?

At some point I would like to use a Windows ONLY program called WillMaker by Nolo Press. But it is Windows only. If it is not graphics intensive would this be a good candidate to run in some Windows emulator window? Does OS X Lion by any chance have any Windows emulator built into it or are emulators the domain of 3rd parties?
1. Anyone successfully run WillMaker in OS X Lion?
2. Assuming a separate Windows emulator is necessary (either Apple or 3rd party) are there any consider most robust?
3. If a dedicated Windows 7 or 8 (when it comes out) is the only way to successfully use WillMaker do tell but I will certainly hold off longer.

I've just used my time machine to migrate my old macbook's contents to my brand new macbook air. While I was watching it restore 803,678 files to the new machine, I was wondering how many of them are unused applications. I've stupidly never set up separate user accounts before this, and I'm sure there are any number of applications that were placed on my old machine by my kids, my husband, and various visitors to our house. Since I'm using time machine instead of starting fresh, I know those have been transferred to the new machine. I've never worried too much about this situation before now, as about every three years I've bought a new machine, migrated the files I need to the new machine, wiped the old one clean, and handed it down to one or the other of my kids.
But now I'm realizing that with time machine, everything on my computer is now forever...everything anyone has ever put on it has been transferred to time machine and now to my new machine. I don't want to be operating with years-old versions of kid's games and apps on every machine I set up from now on for the rest of my life. Is there anything out there that specifically looks for stuff that hasn't been used for a specified number of years and asks something like, "Barney & Friends was installed 1/16/2003 and was last used 10/18/2005. Delete Barney & Friends and all associated files, yes or no?"

I'm looking for an advanced notepad for editing HTML/CSS. I'm also wondering whether there's a notepad that has good note-taking functionality as I'm going to use my MBP at University next year.
I also need a cleaner (CCleaner) type program that will keep my Mac in-tune. I'm wondering whether I actually need to keep it in-tune seeing as it's running probably the best operating system in the world which doesn't have all the crap entailed with it.
I'm going to maybe invest in Photoshop in the distant future but is there something that really has the power of PS in a nutshell? I really can't afford the prices they are charging so I'm wondering whether I can just nudge my way round it all and get another decent editor.

What are other programs I must have, or should get, or just whatever? Freeware or shareware, doesn't matter.

I'm currently using utorrent as my p2p application and was told by a friend that I should be using an IP blocker like PeerBlocker to block certain IP's that track what you are downloading.
He is actually a Windows user and after a quick google search I have found that PeerBlocker is not available to mac users. As a result I have downloaded Peer Guardian and have to say I'm totally confused as to how to use it and what "lists" I need to have setup.

For many years I have been using Turbo Tax for Windows, and it has been adequate for my needs. When I switched to the Mac I bought a copy of Quicken/Mac to replace my copy of Quicken/Windows. What a disappointment ! The Mac version seems to be about 3 years behind the Windows version.
Having said all that; I am considering Turbo Tax for the Mac with some reservations, based on my Quicken experience. I can afford to be annoyed with the outdated Quicken/Mac, but I cannot use a tax program that might be equally outdated.
