I was trying to find a way for items in a folder to get sorted by recently added. In other words, I would like a certain folder to sort everything in the order I throw them in. The problem is that all the items have different dates, names, size, etc., so the usual sorting methods don' achieve what I want and I would prefer not to have to modify the item names cause it gets confusing with all the items I have. The way the folder behaves by default also starts to fail when you reach the maximum window size, it starts to put some items on the right side and others on the bottom, in no particular order. I was thinking of using a Smart Folder or Automator, but nothing I've tried seems to work.

I subscribe to several podcast, most of them are news and I have a couple of them that are music that I'd like to add to the Recently Added Smart Playlist. By default the this playlist has the criteria Media Kind is not Podcast, so when I specify a podcast it'll not appear and if I remove this criteria, all the podcasts will appear which of course I don't want. I could just specify every single podcast I don't want but the problem would be that I'd have to keep editing the playlist everytime I subscribe to a new one; a thing I don't feel very comfortable with. I tried using subcriteria but the Media Kind is not Podcast just overrules everything I add afterwards.

I have downloaded a number of songs from iTunes (10.6.1) in which I only have I song for the artist. If I check the compilation box and ensured that the Album Artist field is blank, but I cannot get the songs to sort into the "Compilations" artist. This used to work.I have also noticied that some songs seem to have persistent fields in the Sorting pane. Deletion of the contents of these fields will not actually remove the data. The next time Song info is opened, the "deleted" value will reappear.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI didn't have a problem adding videos to iTunes for several months, but now videos are not appearing in the right places. For some reason, they appear in the Recently Added playlist, but they are not showing up in the Movies section (which is where they had all gone before). The video plays fine if I play the file from Recently Added. The files are mp4 format converted with Handbrake, which I have used for a long time without issue. 2011 iMac OSX 10.7.3 & iTunes 10.6.1 (7)Â My research into the issue has found that some users experience metadata info missing from files. I ran some of the recommended programs that automatically add metadata to videos, but still had no luck adding. The issue is with every single mp4 file I add, and it just suddenly started.

iTunes is showing me bizarre dates in the "Date Added" column. Examples are "6/29/14180", "1/5/145", and "12/29/12364". I should note that I'm running the latest version of iTunes and the latest version of Mavericks, but the iTunes library that I'm using is the library on my Snow Leopard drive (because I don't know a simple way of importing all of that music--25,000+ songs--into the Maverick side).Â
View 1 Replies View RelatedI purchased an album off the itunes store recently, and one of the songs does not play in full, it stops after about 30 seconds - any idea why, how I can fix it, or how I can complain about it?
View 1 Replies View RelatedOk, so for the past few weeks spotlight has not been working. It would not find things that I had recently put on my system. So I fiddled around with it by doing this:
sh-3.2# mdutil -E /
/:
No index.
It shot me a no index error. I kept trying different things including deleting the index file through the Finder. I finally turned off spotlight with mdutil -i off /. I restarted and tried to turn it back on and it would give me this error:
sh-3.2# mdutil -i on /
/:
Error: unable to perform operation. (-100)
No index.
Then I did rm /.Spotlight-V100 and deleted the spotlight index and restarted. Now it searches for files and it has all the files in the index, but it no longer does calculator or dictionary searches. Using mdutil -E / returns this:
sh-3.2# mdutil -E /
/:
No index.
mdutil -s / returns this:
sh-3.2# mdutil -s /
/:
No index.
But I can still use spotlight to find files. Typing something into the menubar gives back accurate results without calculator or dictionary results. So what do I do to fix it without a reinstall of 10.5? This is my 2.4 ghz Santa Rosa Macbook Pro. The drive is 160 GB.
recently I deleted some playlists off my iPhone in order to free up space for the time being and did not realize that Apple changed its iOS so that it deleted the playlists off my iTunes as well. When I did this before, it did not do that.Â
So in an attempt to recover my lost playlists I moved my iTunes Library.itl and iTunes Library.xml to the desktop and then when I reopened iTunes I clicked import playlist and imported the iTunes Library.xml on the desktop. Â
It reimported all my songs, but it didn't even recover the playlists I was trying to gain again. In addition now all my "date added" is today date's which is not very useful to me considering a lot of my playlists are organized by the date added feature.Â
Is there anyway to get the date added back for all my songs? I still have the itunes library.itl and itunes library.xml that I moved to the desktop in the first place on the desktop. Â

I have a bunch of episodes of The Office, but I want to sort them by Episode. Which is it? In Get Info there's "Episode Number" and "Episode ID" episode number seems to be the definite one for labeling which appears first in the season (what I want to do), but there's no option to display it in the normal showing screen. There is for Episode ID, but it doesn't seem to be the right one.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am having trouble sorting my itunes library. I have numerous different songs by different artists (i.e 700+ lil wayne songs). What I would like to do is sort my entire library alphabetically by artist. Then, I want each artists songs to be alphabetized. Its just way to hard to look through 700 shuffled songs from one artist.
View 1 Replies View RelatedFor some reason iTunes messes up my complaitions if I sort the albums by anything else than "album", such as year. It "breaks" the compilations up (you know what I mean) even if the year is the same. The weird thing is that some (up to 3 I've seen) tracks keep in bundles (even despite having different artists). Also, if the album stays "intact" by some wonder when I sort by year, the track order usually becomes totally random... (14, 4, 2, 13, 3, etc).
Yes, they are marked as compilations. Yes, album artist is the same (blank field). No, there are no typos.
As a disclaimer, I'm on a Windows machine. Can anyone tell me how to set the "sort by year" a default? It's pain to re-set it every time I launch iTunes.
Over the years, I have amassed GBs worth of music, spread over many different iTunes libraries, as a result of having desktops, laptops, replacement machines etc. When I first started my collection, I stupidly "let iTunes manage my library" which has resulted in all my tracks being put into thousands of different folders because iTunes likes to create a separate folder for each artist. I was wondering if there was any way of exporting all my music in the iTunes database to a new location, organized by album. eg. A State of Trance 2010 Yearmix being exported to a folder called that, not each of the 80 tracks going into a separate artist folder.
If this can be done, I'm hoping to consolidate my music collection into one library, once and for all! It's probably worth noting that I'm now on Windows, but I thought I would ask here as iTunes is an Apple product. I have access to a Mac should I need to do anything "Mac-specific" to make this happen. Tune up looks like a promising piece of software. However, it only seems to clean up the music files themselves, not their organization within my music folder. Does anyone have any experience with it? Sorted! I'm sure there are loads of people out there that would like me reorganize the file structure of their music after iTunes obliterates it...so here's what I did.
1) Downloaded Songbird. What a great application! It has addons!
2) Went into the applications options. (Tools >> Options)
3) Selected the 'Manage Files' tab.
4) Ticked the box to 'Allow Songbird to manage files'. In the 'Structure Folders' section underneath I changed it to 'Album/Song Files'.
5) Clicked OK at the bottom to save changes and Songbird then wizzed through my collection and put all my music into Album folders!
6) Uninstall iTunes.
Since installing iTunes 7, all of my Various Artists Soundtrack albums are now all broken up. For instance, 5 songs might be grouped together, and then another 4 songs grouped together elsewhere, even though all of them are labeled the same. Any idea on the proper way to label them to keep them all together?
View 17 Replies View RelatedAlright, so I have two songs by The Beatles, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band and With a Little Help from My Friends. If you don't already know, these songs cut into each other, so if you play With a Little Help right after Sgt. Pepper, it will sound like one song (this was intended). What my problem is is that the way that the songs are sorted (by Artist), With a Little Help from My Friends is before Sgt. Pepper, where it should be vice-versa. Is there any way I can fix this problem, without having to change the way the songs are sorted (I like them organized that way) or creating a playlist? Maybe an Applescript or application?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have several thousand songs organized with a certain Artist/Album/Song structure. I also have uncategorized folders in my music folder with a bunch of random songs inside. Is there a way to sort the music list in iTunes by location, so I can choose all the songs in that folder to add to a playlist, or can I make a smart playlist that takes all the songs in the folder (and scans for new ones whenever)? If not, is there something else I can do to accomplish this?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI use the Date Added column all the time in my iTunes, so I can see what was added last. Well, I just noticed that most of the 10,000 songs in my library have at some point lost the original 'date added' they used to have. Now, the earliest date is sometime in February of 2010. And some have been set to just a few days ago. How did this happen? Is this a bug of iTunes 10? I only just noticed this, so I'm not sure when it happened.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWith Itunes 9, every song I play gets added to the Itunes library, even if I don't want it there. I have Itunes as my default music player on a Windows 7 (64-bit) computer. For example, if in windows explorer, I click on an MP3 file that is not in the Itunes library, Itunes starts up and plays the song (which is fine), but also it adds the song to the itunes library (which I don't want). I don't see any options to change this behavior.
View 6 Replies View RelatedAs a DJ, I rely heavily on iTunes' file-viewing options "Date Added" and "Date Modified" in order to gauge how old files in my collection are. However, each time I move files from my computer to my external, 'date added' and 'modified' reset. Clearly 'moving' files to an external is really copying them to an external, but maybe there is a way to copy library content while retaining or freezing the iTunes library's DATA connected to the content....? Is there a way to get iTunes to realize that the identical files previously on my computer are on the external with respect to 'date added?'
View 10 Replies View RelatedI've just set up my new uMBP (I know, I should have waited for the new chips, but hey - I got impatient!) I have moved my itunes media to the new machine but it is lacking all ratings, the original 'date added' as well as play counts. In fact, I have left all the old metadata behind, but these are the only three parts I'd like back. What I'd like to know is if there is a utility or mini app that can extract this kind of data from my old library file and add it to my new one.
I would have just moved the original library file but I have done that since iTunes 1 and the library file has become a bit messed up. I am rather enjoying my shiny new library file - I just want my ratings, 'date added' and play count metadata injected back in!
I love the playlist trick for the ratings but this is no good for 'date added' or play count obviously.
How come this feature has never been released? How many times have you been listening to music with friends through a stereo, or simply enjoying a good shuffle list, and all of a sudden you're struck with an urging to hear a different song. Problem is, you don't want to leave the one you're on, you only want to listen to it next. And even after you finish listening to it, you want to be able to resume your previous shuffle list. Seems common enough right?
Then why has Apple never released this feature? I understand the ability to make customizable playlists, but we're not talking about lots of songs. Just one single song. And it could be designed to only allow one song to be qued. Not too challenging I would think.
And it would be so easy to implement. Add a button next to the genius button on the bottom of iTunes with a big Q on it. Highlight the song you want, press that button, and BAM. Done. On an iPod touch/iPhone, just swipe over the song you want to que up (like in email), and a red button will pop up saying "que" and done. And on an iPod with a click wheel, maybe hold down the center button and the fast-foward button when you're highlighted over the song you want to que and done.
