When I download a Word or Powerpoint file, Safari adds a second extension to the files - .dot and .pot. What does this mean? Word and PPT 2008 recognize the format and it opens fine on my computer, but if I send this back to someone with that extra extension, I can imagine I'd run into problems.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI started having an issue with Safari this afternoon with the Downloads windows not showing the files that are downloading. The Downloads window will show the number of files downloading at the bottom of the screen, but the window is completely empty of files. The files do download, but I would like to be able to see the status of the downloads.
Any ideas on how to get the downloads to display again? I have tried resetting Safari and rebooting, but no luck so far.
Many extensions on extensions.apple.com cannot be installed.However, extensions that I installed before, no problem, such as AdBlock, Bing, Echofon. Others, will not install, it will be stuck at installing. And Safari may lose response after a while. I initially noticed that if I try to install YouTube5 which I downloaded myself, Safari will immediately lose response.
Tried solutions:
- Reset Safari
- Run OnyX
- Repair disk permissions
- Deleting all the extensions; extensions I installed before will install, others won't
- Deleting Clicktoflash and Glims

1) Does anyone know when, in particular, the extensions gallery will go live? Later this summer is a bit vague. I'm waiting on a few crucial extensions (e.g., AdBlock, WOT, Xmarks).
2) Concerning the Search Bar (Bing, Google, Yahoo!), will I be able to add additional search fields via the extensions gallery (provided someone creates them, of course)?
I presently use firefox and found the 'MyCroft Project' to be absolutely invaluable. It allows me to search common websites without having to navigate to them directly (url). If I can get this added capability, I will switch over for good!
I am having an odd problem. I have safari extension enabled, and I even have a few installed. Today though, when I went to double click on and install a new extension, instead of installing it re-downloads the extension. The extension is definitely .safariextz.

Just run into Glims today - how do you like it compared to Saft? Obviously, it runs with WebKit nightlies which Saft does not, that's a point. Am I the only one who was expecting a bit more selection, especially given the additional wait time after the launch of Safari 5? How does Apple expect Safari 5 to compete with Firefox when it has so few (approved) extensions? Since the launch of the extensions gallery, I haven't seen much change in the available offerings, even though there is still a wealth of non-approved extensions out there. So what gives? Is it a lack of developers? Is Apple being too stringent in its method of approving extensions?

I can't fix that as the web page is not under my control. Is there a way I can tell Safari not to do that, or how to handle these files?

We recently got macs at work which I am accustom to working on at home, however, my workflow has kind of changed at work in regards to the way I do things now. One thing that irritates me is that Safari seems to automatically download files instead of displaying them all in another tab or something. I don't want to have to have 20-100 downloaded files in my download folder!

I am also using Safari Speed and Safari Stand as accessory apps. Everything was working GREAT until a program called � GLIMS � sent a notice while online that the program had been updated. I clicked on Update and then all the problems Started. I removed � GLIMS � from my computer but I still can't download ANYTHING as I did before. In my Safari bookmarks bar the system puts a number in brackets after the title. This is not present on any other title and if I delete it, the system puts it back. Why is this and how do I get rid of the number permanently?

View 2 Replies View Relatedit's a little trick that most people know, but you can download flv's and other things directly from the safari browser just by accessing the activities window. however, after the first few flvs i've downloaded, all the rest are out of sync by a few seconds. does anyone know the problem or have a solution? i am using quicktime armed with perian to watch the flv's. i dont think the quicktime player is the issue for the first two flv's i've downloaded from facebook work finr, it's the just ones i download recently that are messing up. anyone have a clue?

I have been facing a downloading issue on my safari app recently. Before, I could download by jus clicking on the download link. But just recently when I click on the downlink, safari brings me to the link instead of downloading the file from the link.
