I was thinking that once I saw a guy who said something about an application that reset the RAM while you are using the computer. That means that you can reset the RAM without restarting your computer.
View 5 RepliesI use Skype a lot, with a Sony Ericson HBH-602 bluetooth headset on my powerbook G4 1.25GHz with built in bluetooth and airport. I also use an isight. Anyways, sometimes the Skype connection dies and the call terminates. About 60% of the time, the bluetooth icon in OSX doesn't 'free up' and it still thinks there's a connection to the bluetooth headset. The BT icon still has the dotted line through it as if there's a connection even after the call has terminated. This might be a Skype bug, but it means I can't use the bluetooth headset again and continue the call again until I restart OS X. Is there any way of doing this without restarting the computer? Sometimes i can talk for 3 hours with no problems, sometimes the call drops after 5 mins, and messes up the bluetooth connection.

I install the updates and some programs (Plex, uTorrent, Chrome) only to realize that when I restart, some preferences completely ignored.. All programs added to the Dock are gone again, the assigned log-in items don't start up, iCloud was logged out again, mail settings were reset.I reinstalled the whole thing, except for Lion, and it all worked fine. So anyway, I thought it was the laptop. Some sort of hardware problem or something, right? So I just got this new Mac mini, with Lion, and it does the same exact thing.It doesn't remember some changes I made. I tried to repair permissions, but it doesn't do anything.
View 1 Replies View RelatedBasically I bought an iMac last October, 21", 4GB standard manufactured settings ram etc. After a few weeks every time I quit an application and go back on it, it returns to its old settings. Whenever I remove a bookmark from the toolbar on Safari and restart it, it returns to the old settings, when ever I restart the computer the dock and background changes towards its original settings. This is starting to get really annoying, and I don't know what to do and I have installed all available updates.

I've been having this problem for a little over a month now, I've spent countless hours researching, and every possible solution that I've come across hasn't worked for me. I've reset my PRAM, I've repaired my disk and permissions multiple times, even by using the Disk Utility on my Recovery Partition. Â
Basically, about two months ago I (regretfully) changed my account shortname by going to System Preferences>Users & Groups, right clicking on my account and changing the shortname in the advanced options. Everything was fine, but now when I restart my iMac, my desktop wallpaper changes back to what it was on the day I changed my shortname, any apps that I add to my dock are removed after i restart, Safari opens up the guide that I was using to show me how to change the shortname, the "Users & groups" window even appears as soon as I log in to my account. Basically, my iMac seems to be booting back to the day I changed the shortname, now any changes I make aren't saved.Â
Everything keeps restting back to the way it was on the day that I changed my shortname. Since then, I've changed the shortname BACK to what it was the first time, hoping that would fix the issue. Â
Also, I'm not sure if this is normal, but if I go to "~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist", and check the permissions, "everyone" is on there twice:
It also does this for every other .plist file in my preferences folder.Â

I'm running OS X 10.10.1 on a 2010 Mac Pro with a Bose Companion 5 USB sound system. Everything works great and as expected except when I restart the Mac Pro. The sound settings switch off the Bose speakers and reverts back to the internal speakers of the computer. I have to go in everytime and reset it back to the Bose sound system. I never had this problem using Mavericks.Â

After years of using Sony hdr500 video cam, iMovie stopped recognizing it and then stopped recognizing the built in iSight cam as well. Now photo booth does not see it either. I have restarted the computer to reset SMC and that did not resolve the problem.

I installed Leopard about 3 weeks ago and have been very pleased with it; however, since then every so often and when booting up my G5, it shuts off again. I boot again and a small window appears asking me to reset the date and time. Each time this happens I am able to reset the time and date correctly in System Preferences. The computer is about 3 years old so it may be the internal battery and nothing to do with Leopard. Or, could it be a bug in Leopard?

Should I be concerned about this, and has this happened to anybody else?
I have a problem that safari uses adobe acrobat to display pdf files. I would like to change this setting back and use the standard viewer that comes with the system.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI decided it'd be nice to have my computer sync contacts with my iPhone over the air, so I decided to use Google's exchange sync with both. Once in a while it'll hiccup and duplicate entries or change someone's name, but it's worked well for the most part.
There is one thing that has been really bugging me though... I set up my parents contacts so their first name was either 'Mom' or 'Dad'. For some reason, my mom's last name changed to reflect her actual last name. I'm not sure what caused this, but I've managed to fix the name across the board. Despite this, when I compose a new message and type in "mom," the first address it autofills is Mom James (with her last name). My address book doesn't show this contact name anymore, neither does Google or my iPhone.
Like close every window you see with one button? Without restarting/shutting down the computer.

View 10 Replies View RelatedThe left edge of my excel formula bar is not showing-almost as if it was pushed off the left side of the desktop (see picture). Unfortunately, the only part of the formula bar that allows it to move is now hidden, so I can no longer move the formula bar. I have tried switching the formula bar on and of in "View" and also tried re-loading excel, but it is stuck. Does anybody know how to reset the formula bar position?

Similar to the functionality that FireFox has where you can clean up automatically after your session using "Clear Private Data." In FireFox there is a preference for it but I didn't see anything like that in Safari - leading me to believe there might be a hack or add-on that will do it.

I use it to monitor my internet usage since they cap it at my school to a couple gigabytes a day. Since I went over once and was given a warning, my second offense would be no internets from anywhere from a week to a year.
I would use the application Lingon to automatically run the applescript every day at midnight.
Right now the only way to reset the counter is to restart my computer which is bothersome and time consuming
If anyone could point me in the right direction as to the file it uses to store network usage info I could probably figure out how to write the applescript myself.
I accidentally renamed the home directory on my macbook! its a mid 2007 model running 10.4.11 Tiger and I don't normally restart or log off my computer. I accidentally changed it the other day with a track pad misclick while I was multitabling on pokerstars and went back and changed it back later once I realized what I had done. I didn't think it was that severe of an issue until I started experiencing problems with apps.
I have found the folder with all the old stuff in the users file but I don't know how to apply all the old settings to my account. ALL my applications have restarted and my itunes is completely wiped. All the music files are on the computer but every time I log off all apps are again reset. How do I get everything back to normal?
I've been having a problem with Snow Leopard since I installed it, and it's been bugging me like mad, but I haven't been able to find a solution or anyone with a similar case anywhere. Today, however, I tried again, and I ran across this news article, which perfectly described my problem:

Every time I close and re-open itunes it erases everything. I have to keep adding the itunes folder to itunes to get my music and most of my settings back. Why does it do this? How can I fix this. I am using the most current version of itunes

Whenever my iMac crashes (and that's been happening a little too frequently since I installed Yosemite) and I have to either restart or force-restart, every application that was open at the time automatically restarts as well. I guess some people might value this but, call me crazy, I don't. I usually have Chrome running with 3 or four windows and multiple tabs open; Mail with multiple windows open with emails I need to address; and any number of apps including Lightroom that is so processor intensive causing the startup to take a very long time. Not only that, but I use multiple desktops and when this happens EVERYTHING opens in the same desktop creating a miserable time-suck separating everything.Â
Is there any way to prevent this? I just want the computer to relaunch and then open whatever app I want when and where I want. Is that so wrong?Â

I make the icons bigger, and I put a photo in the background. The window looks fine until I do a reboot (I don't know about logging out - I only have one user). Then when I open the Applications window I find it has reset to smaller icons on a white background. Doesn't matter what I do when I edit the options. It always looks the same after I restart. I can't say for certain, but I think this problem has been going on since before Mavericks. I thought the cause might be a 3rd party app but I just bought a brand new iMac and the same thing happens.Â
