I need to create an index for the new book I am going to have published this spring. Is there software which is compatible with Pages '09 which will search for words and show me what page they appear on, and enable me to make an index?
View 1 RepliesI've searched extensively on this topic, and I'm pretty sure I am out of luck.However, my perfectly fine pages document from yesterday will not open today. The .xml file seems to be the problem; when I view the package, the index.xml.gz file won't "unzip" to an xml file, and if I just change the file extension, I get a garbled mess. Is there any way I can get the xml.gz file recovered? I am very sad. I will no longer be using pages because I can't trust it. What I have read on the 'net is very discouraging. Yes, yes, backup yes yes all that stuff. However, unless someone has instant simultaneous backup, this kind of thing could still happen - it was just one day, and I don't backup my files every day.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm surprising my girlfriend with a 2 week holiday to Cancun in Mexico for her christmas present and I thought it would be a nice idea to get loads of pictures of the resort and cancun itself and make a hard back book in iPhoto to give to her. There are 20 pages in the standard book. I'm looking to get an extra large book. Is there a way for me to delete some of the pages or do I have to use 20? Don't think I'll find 20 pages worth of photos of Cancun!

I created a logo in Pages using a few text box, some text and various shapes and colors. I created it at the largest size I think I'll be using it at (quite large, a few feet across) and now I want to use it in several other, smaller instances. I grouped it all together, but when I resize the box, the type stays the same size and so everything gets out of place. Is there a way in Pages to save an object such as I've created here, and be able to resize it in correct proportions etc, so that I can use it in various sizes etc?

Just bought a new MacBook Pro. I set up my old Mac as a drive, hooked it to the new laptop and dragged most stuff over. However, it claims my old version of Address Book (4.1.2) isn't compatible. How can I transfer my contacts over? I tried syncing my iPhone and the contacts didn't migrate. I tried the same thing unsuccessfully with my iCal (3.0.8).

Copied my folders into htdocs and it says to change to the wamp path file for index.php. I looked it up copied what I thought was the code needed and now all is broken.
Before I upgraded to Lion I was able to edit my .pdf files with Preview. I just needed to rotate and crop scanned book pages. Now I can't do that. What can I use or do instead.

When copying a table from say a webpage or even a RTF file, Pages does not retain its table formatting. Instead it separates the rows and columns and puts them on separate lines.
See it for yourself, try copying one of the tables on this page into Pages [URL]
The only way I can get the table into Pages is to paste into NeoOffice (which retains the correct formating), save the file with the .doc extension then open in Pages.
I need to open a few Pages files but I don't have Pages installed on this computer. I understand you can convert Pages files to .doc or .pdf within the application, but unfortunately I won't have access to the computer with the program installed for a while.
Is there some sort of (free) converter that can convert .pages files to .doc or .pdf or even .rtf?
Or even better, a document creator/viewer than can open .pages files?
I'm wondering if there's a way to eliminate the visual break in-between pages in Pages '09 (see screenshot). I'd prefer maybe a subtle dotted line indicating a different page, not a 5-inch gap.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to create pages that have all black backgrounds. I've been doing this by using the Shapes tool, choosing a rectangle, filling in the entire white space for the page, which is 8x11, and then filling in with black.
The problem is that when I do this, Pages seems to think that I want this page and the following page to be connected, in some way. When I look at the two pages in the thumnail view, the yellow outline is around both pages, rather than each individually.
Anybody know how to keep this from happening. Or the right way to create full black backgrounds for pages in Pages?
I am in the process of setting up iChat on my spousal unit's iMac. I've already created a Jabber account, using her gmail address. That seems to work fine. Now I'd like to add an AIM account. When I click on "Get an iChat Account..." in the Account Setup window,It was my understanding that this signup gets you an AIM account, but it from the first line on the page, it seems to assume that you're using .Mac (even more oddly, since .Mac doesn't actually exist any longer).What am I missing here? Aren't AIM, MobileMe and .Mac accounts the same for purposes of iChat?

They told me that they can install Windows for me but its going to take a week. IM NOT WILLING TO GIVE MY MACBOOK UP FOR A WEEK!!!! View 5 Replies View RelatedI just have a quick question about Numbers (iWork '09). I need to graph some supply and demand graphs for school. How would I go about doing this? Whenever I create a graph based on a chart, it just plots each row as it's own line. I can only edit the values in the Y-axis, and obviously I need to be able to work with the X-axis as well.
Update: I played around with it more and figured it out. I guess you have to graph it as a scatter plot and then choose to connect the dots, and remove the dots, rather than choose the line graph, whose icon looks just like a graph of supply and demand.
I'm trying create 200 MB rar files out of a 700 + MB directory. When I check "split archive" and select "user defined" under the volume size dropdown and click create rar, it creates 500+ rar archives! Nowhere does it ask me how big I want the volume size for "user defined". Does anyone know how to use this app? I mean, I know how to alternatively archive into 200 mb parts (zip them, split & concat the zip file) but that requires the user to unarchive twice.

I want the main menu to contain an image with the front and rear musculature of the human body, and you can then choose a muscle by going up and down. When you click the muscle you enter a submenu where a small list of videos are available where you train that particular muscle.
I have made a .psd with the images of the body in black and white, and about 10-12 layers where the same muscles are cut out and coloured red (highlighted areas which will light up while navigating in the menu). [URL]. There is the .psd file if you want to see what it looks like.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI would like a little more information on create a split rar archive in OS X 10.4.11. At the moment I have downloaded winrar and copied the rar file to /bin/ and I can execute the command

rar a -v50000 testfile
to create a split archive, each part 50mb each.
But the only problem with this is that it will create files using the extension .part#.rar and I would like it to use .r00 .r01 .r02 etc.
this is kind of an annoyance and I can't seem to find any answers online. My left column on Mail usually has 3 folders (inbox, sent, trash). That's how I like it. Every once in a while though, it creates a new folder under my email address. Why does this happen, and can I stop it? In case it helps, I only have 1 email address and it's a .me account. Also, I do send emails from my Mac, iPhone and occasionally [URL] from a work PC. I don't know if that's relevant, I just wanted to get as many facts out there as I can.
