I just downloaded a couuple .avi movies and niether have any sound when I play them. I've used both quicktime and DivX to play them, but no luck. I figure I need to find another coded but don't know which one.

These are old-school ones that you double-click and they play. The file extension is missing on them, so I'm not sure exactly what they are, but I've had them for ages!
I need a basic app (not some amazingly expensive app with a million functions) that lets me edit an .MP3 file and cut out part of the middle, the ends, and export it. Quicktime X would be perfect, but you can't edit out the middle.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have 12 Videos in .mov format that I saved from .wmv format using quicktime and flip4mac. I have also tried saving them as AVI and same result.
Here's the problem, when I put them into iDVD and save as disk image to check, the videos are there, but no sound. I tried also burning them to DVD, using a maxell DVD-R 16x, and all the will come up on the dvd is the title menu. Movies will not play on my macbook or in the dvd player on TV. I tried using the .avi format but there still was no sound, and the movies were really choppy.
if i try to use iMovie, it will not even import these .mov files (doesn't let me click on them to import)
is there another format i need to export to, or change some setting to get the sound in my project, and get the movies to play have i burn them?
All the movies are approx 1hr long except one, and I was using the best performance setting putting 2 movies per dvd.

I am new to this forum and have only just brought a MacBook. I transferred video from my mini dv camcorder to my pc using firewire. The data was recorded as an avi. These avi videos play fine my on pc (in windows media player and real player-with sound). However, on my mac, the video is displayed but no sound. The video is played, but there is no sound (just crackling). I have tried realplayer, quicktime, divx and vlc. I have downloaded perian, but this has made no difference. In quicktime, the video is displayed, but no sound. In VLC, there is video, with crackling sound. I have about eight videos and none of them have sound on the mac.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have had my Mac for almost a year! However, this morning when I went to go on it, the itunes music files I normally play aren't playing with sound. It shows that they are running their time but no sound is coming out. The speakers are not on mute, the volume is turned up and I know the speakers aren't blown or anything because I can hear the "bleep's" telling me I am changing the volume up and down.
View 2 Replies View RelatedIf any of you recall, in System 7, you could double-click a sound file and it would just play without launching an app. The OS itself was capable of playing sounds, like system sounds or even music files (you could also use QuickTime). This was pre-iTunes. I miss those days. The other day, I was trying out some sound effects, and double-clicking them launched the behemoth bloatware app, iTunes. Of course, I could pick another app, but I would prefer no app at all, i.e., system-level, ready-to-eat sounds; just click and it plays. Does anyone know of a system-level plug-in or background app that works in this way? An analogous system function would be clippings. Double-click one of those and it just pops up; no app launches. This is how System 7 worked, and I sorely miss it. I use sampled sounds a lot, and I just want to click on them to quickly hear what they sound like in that same simple way we once could.

have been making movies with imovie for the past few years. Today I imported from my camera, could see the clips moving in imovie when being transported, but when I tried to edit the clips, all I could get was a screen frozen with a picture, no movement, but could hear the sound. Then when I tried to open an already saved imovie (that had already been burned to iDVD successfully), the same thing happened.
I have tried moving them to the trash, as well as using the move to trash button. They seam to go to the trash can but when I delete the trash they are still in the file. I am trying to clear out some old files so that I can have room on my start up disk. My Disk is full and it is making it hard for me to open more then one file. I am getting an external hard drive soon but don't want these files on it.

However, other .avi files are working and give both video and audio.

I listen to iiTunes a lot while surfing the web. It's very annoying when I come across a website which has it's own music and it suddenly overlaps the music I'm playing on iTunes. Is there anyway to turn off the sound from all other applications while using iTunes?

So if you have I apologize in advance, I've been hacking away at this for weeks off and on and haven't been able to find an answer. Also wasn't able to find a solution through searching. So... here we go. Issue is, no sound from .mov files on my PC. On my MacBook, the .mov files play just fine, and play just fine on the AppleTV. This is my main media computer, so I store all my movies here (I like VisualHub and ffmpegx much better than anything on Windows I've seen. If anyone has suggestions for Windows, I'm all ears). All my new movies and TV shows are stored on the MacBook, and every now and then I do a move of all that I've watched to here on the Windows desktop where I archive my favorites and keepers. The only problem, is that all my .mov files have zero sound when playing on the PC, though fine on my Mac. So far, I've tried:
- Re-installing everything Apple (even Bonjour)
- Installing all Quicktime components suggested on the site (link)
- installed CoreAAC-1.2.0.573
- installedK-Lite Codec Pack 4.4.2.0
- I also extracted the .aac to .wav to try another format.. the result was 2 hours of dead air
- I also tried the trick with the new update for the AppleTV in inserting a sub 1 sec clip if an .ac3 file into the .mov
- also no sound playing them through VLC
I have seen a couple posts about Quicktime for Windows unable to play HD vids, but a) not all my .mov are HD b) sounded like all the issues were video related.
i've got some clips i've put into imovie and i want to remove the sound from them or maybe just make it lower so i can have music playing during it. is it possible to do this in imovie? what about qt pro?

On sunday, I saw that you could now downlead messenger 8.0 beta, i did and it removed the previous version that I had, however I couldnt change the image on the 8.0 so I decided to re-downlad messenger 7.
The problem is, that with this version, it no longer jumps or sounds, so i don't know when someone is talking to me, and since the messenger that I liked came with the office installer and I don't have it I don't know what to do!
Is there any way to apply the ''sound'' in messenger 7.0?

I am trying to copy large .vob files from my video camera. My camera uses mini dvds. occasionally the movie file will fail to copy perperly because the data is damaged. Is there an application i can download that will fix the files so i can have a copy to edit in my movie software?

I have since upgraded to snow leopard and now it won't even play the sound. It shows me a status bar telling me that it is processing the file and then I get an error message telling me "additional software may be required to play this file" Anyone know how can I get these files to work?

I purchased a nice microphone, but I am getting a problem where it is picking up the sound of my nasal breathing. I am doing a meditation instruction recording so there is a fair amount of space where I'm not speaking, and it picks up this nasal breathing sound. I have been experimenting with the filters to filter this out but so far no success. Is there someone here familiar with garageband and has some suggestions?

I have gone through and looked at all input settings on the mac and in the application. when I pull up the settings box, I can even see the sound "bars" go up when I make noise. But no noise in the recordings.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI used Handbrake to rip the movie My Best Friend's Girl like I do all my movies. The problem is the sound is off by about 5 seconds on playback. I tried messing around with it but didn't get too far. Does anyone know the best way to help set the audio right? Is there a feature I'm not seeing, or will I have to export the sound from the whole movie and add it back in as an audio track to the movie?
