Applications :: Legit Copy Of Mac Office - CANNOT Uninstall Pirated Version
Nov 24, 2008
and yes i know, i shouldn't download illegal versions of software...but i did and now it's going to haunt me forever =( anyways.
1. i downloaded microsoft office for mac 2008. (pirated)
2. i recently purchased a legit copy of microsoft office for mac 2008
when i uninstall the pirated version
- i drag the application from the source to "app zapper"
- i find all the microsoft files and folders and i trash them
- i finally empty trash
When i try to install the LEGIT version, it installs no problem but never asks me to input the serial of the Legit serial key. and when i connect to my network when office is open it say's "blah blah this office is already registered to xxx blah blah" this is because there was myself and this other guy using the same serial from the pirated version and it never lets us use office at the same time. anyways, now that i have a legit (never been used, brand new) serial... i can't even use it...(ie. it doesn't tell me to input the legit serial)

Followed all instructions, trail version detected but after a few minutes the message "cannot uninstall: you are probably not logged in as administrator" Fact is that I AM the administrator, actually I am the only user of this iMac... Can anyone help? I just bought a full boxed business version of Office and I cannot install it before removing the trial version.

I am running Mac OS 10.5.8 on a 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4 GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM. When I first got this machine, I basically transferred everything from my old computer to the new. One product which I accidentally included was an ancient version of Microsoft Office v.X. Yeah, it is so old that Microsoft doesn't even support it.
Anyway, my thought was that I would use Apple's iWork since I'm not really using it for a business application anymore. But recently my husband bought me Office:mac 2008 and I would like to install it.
First though, I would like to get rid of the old Office program and all its component parts. I looked to see if the install disk had an uninstall program with it; but, guess what? Not. So, I'm hoping somebody here can suggest a way to clean my computer of all the Microsoft Office components.

With some minor exceptions, primarily for game playing for a few years in the late 90s, I haven't used Windows, well, basically ever (ok, I used DOS some until the mid-90s), mostly using various forms of Unix/Linux and Mac OS X. I have never purchased a Microsoft product directly (I've obtained licenses indirectly though).

I have the most recent versions of iLife, iWorks, and Office for mac.The new versions are expected to come at at some point. I am plan to get the most recent versions of these programs when they become available. My question is, do I need to uninstall the previous versions before I install the lastest ones or can I just install the lastest ones immediately without uninstalling the old versions. If I do need to uninstall old versions what happens when I don't do that? I would like to know what happens to the old version after I install the newest version.

I have just purchased a copy of iWork and received the disks today. Previously I had downloaded the trial version from Apple and was wondering should I uninstall the trial version before I install the new disk based version.

I don't know why, but iTunes entirely too often on my computer. I use a 15" MBP running 10.6.4 (The latest version of SL). I'm using iTunes 10, but I was having this issue prior to the update. It crashes seemingly randomly sometimes when I finish an album, sometimes between songs, and sometimes just mid-song. Restarting seemed to help once, but it eventually started crashing again, and all subsequent reboots have had no effect. I have about 21 GB of music, mostly pirated (though let's not get into that debate); I listen to music by the album. My library is completely music (no TV shows, podcasts, etc.). Am I the only one sending them 20 enraged error messages a day?

I've got Office 2008 already on Mac. Is it better to uninstall 2008, then install 2011? Or is it better to install 2011 on top of 2008?

With disk space being at a premium on the new MacBook Air, and with myself being a very basic user when it comes to office applications, I was wondering what Microsoft office version takes up the least space. Over the years I have accumulated 2004, 2008 and was considering the new version. Only interested in excel and word installations.

I think that it is only one as there is nothing that I can find to the contrary. Is this the case? with office for pc home and student version you can use it on up to three computers.
Also how many macs can you use iworks on, once again I believe that it is just one but wanted clarification.

Does the new office have the same 1 time use code as the windows version of office?
I'd like to install office 08 on my PB, but don't want to risk having to buy a new version once I get a new MBP later this year.

I'm not sure if this is the right place for my question, but I wanted to get opinions from you guys. I use Microsoft Word, Excel and sometimes, Power Point quite often at college. They have PCs of course... and I have an iMac. And I wanted to get Microsoft Office at home.
Now, I was looking on the web for different prices and all that. I wasn't sure between buying Windows XP (because I work with XP at college, not Vista) and downloading Bootcamp, or Microsoft Office for Mac. Also, I wasn't sure if the Mac version was similar to the one for Windows... and also if I could transfer files from the PC to Mac versions without problems.
Basically, money wise, if I buy one or the other, there isn't too much of a difference. But I haven't looked everywhere for the best prices available, although I'm guessing it's pretty much the same most places (internet).

So I got Office 2011; it's pretty good stuff. Unlike Windows based systems, it did not remove Office 2008 which is different. I am wondering if there is any reason that I should or should not remove 2008 since I have 2011 (exact same programs).

My parents used on of the three license as me to install Office on their MBP. Now I cannot use Office if my parent are since we have both our MBPs using the same network.
I have uninstalled Office on my MBP but when I went to reinstall it it did not ask for a license. How do I fully uninstall Office so that I can use a different license?

I am new to Macs, my MBA being my first.
I LOVE the concept of a program being contained in a single 'file' that you install by dragging into the applications folder.
Now that I am used to this setup of one file per program... Office 11 and Photoshop are driving me nuts... EVERY other program has a single icon in the applications folder... Office has like 12, I hate it!
I've uninstalled, I think... but I still see icons and crap everywhere (documents, etc) any help REMOVING all of it?

Does anybody know when Microsoft plans on releasing a newer version of Microsoft Office for Mac? One of my co-workers currently own the 2008 version and he's really unhappy with it. He has an excel file that's around 4MB in filesize, containing some 11,000 rows and a bunch of columns too and it's really slow to work with (he has a 1 year old MacBook Pro) and some times excel also "runs out of memory" it says and the application just freezes. It should be updated properly etc, but I wonder if maybe a newer version more suited for Snow Leopard, might be released soon?

I have MS Office 2008 for Mac installed and have no use for the other apps, but would like, to have my Mac clean and the ~ 1GB of hdd space more. Is there a solution, to uninstall ALL MS software except Excel? Unfortunately, Excel still is a few nose lengths ahead of numbers.app, which neglects some functions and the sheer speed of Excel.

I'm planning my upgrade to Lion. I need the non-Web Services Edition of Office for Mac 2008 so that I can connect to my employer's MS Exchange Server 2003 via Entourage 2008. I can only find the Web Services Edition on Microsoft's website- but that won't work for me.
My understanding is that I need Office for Mac 2008 version 13.3 or earlier. When I shop online, the products offered do not specify the version they are selling.
Does anybody know a sure-fire way or place to get the right version?

My copy of Office for Mac 2004 Entourage 11.4.0 was corrupted today when downloading mail. Accessing mail via Blackberry 8330 showed that physical gaps were email messages that weren't in Entourage Inbox.
When I attempted to do anything--click in gaps to get missing messages, delete messages, etc., I got a screen saying Unknown Error (4362).
