Oct 2, 2009Does anybody know when Microsoft plans on releasing a newer version of Microsoft Office for Mac? One of my co-workers currently own the 2008 version and he's really unhappy with it. He has an excel file that's around 4MB in filesize, containing some 11,000 rows and a bunch of columns too and it's really slow to work with (he has a 1 year old MacBook Pro) and some times excel also "runs out of memory" it says and the application just freezes. It should be updated properly etc, but I wonder if maybe a newer version more suited for Snow Leopard, might be released soon?

Sep 5, 2008I'm not sure if this is the right place for my question, but I wanted to get opinions from you guys. I use Microsoft Word, Excel and sometimes, Power Point quite often at college. They have PCs of course... and I have an iMac. And I wanted to get Microsoft Office at home.
Now, I was looking on the web for different prices and all that. I wasn't sure between buying Windows XP (because I work with XP at college, not Vista) and downloading Bootcamp, or Microsoft Office for Mac. Also, I wasn't sure if the Mac version was similar to the one for Windows... and also if I could transfer files from the PC to Mac versions without problems.
Basically, money wise, if I buy one or the other, there isn't too much of a difference. But I haven't looked everywhere for the best prices available, although I'm guessing it's pretty much the same most places (internet).

Jul 4, 2010I am running Mac OS 10.5.8 on a 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4 GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM. When I first got this machine, I basically transferred everything from my old computer to the new. One product which I accidentally included was an ancient version of Microsoft Office v.X. Yeah, it is so old that Microsoft doesn't even support it.
Anyway, my thought was that I would use Apple's iWork since I'm not really using it for a business application anymore. But recently my husband bought me Office:mac 2008 and I would like to install it.
First though, I would like to get rid of the old Office program and all its component parts. I looked to see if the install disk had an uninstall program with it; but, guess what? Not. So, I'm hoping somebody here can suggest a way to clean my computer of all the Microsoft Office components.

Apr 21, 2012I updated to Lion on my desktop a few months ago and I swear now I can't read older Microsoft word and Excel documents correctly on this computer using Office 2011. The document opens and you can see all of the data in a preview window (from finder) but once it opens fully the data/words are not there. I have Lion on a brand new Macbook Pro I just purchased and installed the Microsoft Office 2011 and it opened the excel document I was having trouble with fine.I can't find many links for Office for Mac issues.

Apr 25, 2012Has anyone had any compatibily issues with Microsoft Office 11? I frequently make word and powerpoint documents on campus, sometimes on windows computers, sometimes Mac's. I either email the files to myself, or store them on a flash drive. However, when I try to open the files, I simply see a blank document. What's even more frustrating is that these files open in pages on my computer. I suspect I have something enabled on my preferences that is blocking this, but I have no idea what this is. Essentially, any file that I create on my computer works, and also works when opened on another computer. However, any file I create on a different computer(be it mac or windows) is not visible when opened on my computer. I simply see a blank document/blank powerpoint slides.
I am running 10.7 Lion, with Microsoft office 11.

Feb 24, 2012I am using a totally legal Microsoft office for Mac. I do not set to share any thing from my Mac to anyone. I got this warning in the log and I do not know whether there is any problem with it. I am a bit paranoid if any spyware/trojan that is trying to open backdoord connection to steal data from my Mac. I also sometimes found some strange files in the recycle bin that named something like "recovery" but it turned into something else when clicked on the files.

Mar 30, 2012I updated to Lion os x and now can not use Microsft Office 2004, I cant open it or uninstall it, it just says powerPC applications are no longer supported.I have lost all emails on Entourage and can only retrieve emails via hostway that have been delivered today.
Trying to get help from Apple care is a nightmare as they need a serial number, which Lion being a digital download does not have one only web order number, which does not work when I put in serial box.

Apr 3, 2012I'm sure there is a work around to this. I recently upgraded to a new iMac and when I insert my Microsoft program CD, it doesn't autorun. You can browse the file set but there isn't an apparent autorun launch that I can figure out. There is an autorun.inf file.

Jun 19, 2012My Tdisk failed and was replaced under AppleCare. I then restored from my Time Machine Backup. I used the (Command R Power keys to initiate this). It completed without errors (eventually). All Apps that I tried seemed to have been recovered successfully except when I attempted toload my MS Office for MAC Apps, I was asked for my product key.Unfortunately this was saved in an email on my system and I cannot retrieve it since I cannot open my MS Outlook.

Mar 15, 2012I'm planning my upgrade to Lion. I need the non-Web Services Edition of Office for Mac 2008 so that I can connect to my employer's MS Exchange Server 2003 via Entourage 2008. I can only find the Web Services Edition on Microsoft's website- but that won't work for me.
My understanding is that I need Office for Mac 2008 version 13.3 or earlier. When I shop online, the products offered do not specify the version they are selling.
Does anybody know a sure-fire way or place to get the right version?

Aside from the security fix, Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac 11.5.1 Update [14.5MB] also updates the Japanese postal code dictionary in Entourage and fixes an issue that causes Word 2004 to close unexpectedly when opening a document that contains a numbered list.
Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac 12.1.2 Update
The 12.1.2 update for Office 2008 for Mac [159.6MB] is more substantial, repairing a global issue that prevented all Office 2008 applications from running AppleScript scripts from the Script menu, while also delivering a number of individual fixes for Word, Excel and Entourage.
More specifically, Microsoft said Word should now launch more quickly and tables will no longer included random instances of bold text. Other changes improve the display of form fields and the reliability of headers & footers in the word processing application.
Meanwhile, Excel should now open spreadsheet files that contain invalid characters and see improvements to the overall performance of calculations. Number formatting for some international languages and stability when saving workbooks that contain PivotTable reports has also been improved.
One of the major focus areas for Entourage was to improve stability when using Microsoft Sync Services, Microsoft said. In particular, Tuesday's update fixes an issue that where all contacts in Entourage or in the Apple Address Book would be deleted and re-created when you use Microsoft Sync Services. It should also prevent duplication of events and other items in Entourage or in iCal.
Other changes to Entourage focused on improving junk mail filtering, recurring calendar events, time zone information, embedded images, and the reliability when Entourage establishes a encrypted channel.

Jun 20, 2009I recently installed Office on my macbook. When using Excel, it quits unexpectedly and a window pops up asking me to relaunch. I relaunch and it takes me back to the last spreadsheet I had open but sometimes it doesn't save the last changes. I uninstalled and reinstalled the Office files and it still continues to happen. When I first used it I had no problem at all. But then I don't know what happened but all of sudden the letters I type in would be on top of a line instead of writing between lines like as writing on a notebook.
I opened my previous notebook layout documents and compared it to the new one but couldn't find what was different.
