Applications :: HTTP File Server (HFS) For Mac OS X?

Anyone know of an app similar to HFS [URL] that lets you drag and drop files into the program and then hosts the files that people can then download from your IP?

OS X :: Cannot (Specify HTTP URL) Print From Mac To Linux Server

Mar 29, 2009

I'm new to Mac OS X, but have been working with Linux for almost 9 yrs now. I have set up a Linux box with CUPS 1.3.9. I can print from the server, and from other Linux stations to that remote server. However, I can't print from a client MacBook. I set up CUPS on the client Mac via
http://localhost:631
and created a printer associated with the remote queue / printer on Linux (the URL I use on OS X is
http://mylinuxserver:631/printers/hpprinter
and the driver is RAW).

I have no problems sending a test page from the CUPS web interface on Mac OS X to the Linux server -- the test page gets printed OK. However, I can't see the printer I just defined from other Mac OS X apps, and neither can I see it from the Add Printer Dialog on System Preferences (it's empty). I tried creating the printer at the Add Printer dialog, but it would neither let me specify an HTTP URL (as far as I know, I had to use the IP icon on the toolbar) nor specify "RAW". So I tried creating a "dummy" printer in the Add Printer dialog, with a basic config, and then changing it from the CUPS web GUI. This didn't work either, since when I went back to the Add Printer dialog, the printer was gone.

Safari :: Firefox, Chrome All Crash Whenever Attempt To Upload A File Via HTTP

Apr 2, 2012

It doesn't seem to matter what browser I'm using, but whenever I attempt to upload a file via a browser it crashes.

It doesn't matter what site it is,  but whenever I click an "upload" link that would normally result in a Finder window popping up to allow me to browse for a file, then the browser crashes on me.

I'm running Safari 5.1.5 (7534.55.3), Firefox 12.0, and Chrome 18.01. . .

Below is the gobbledy-good that gets spat out after Safari dies:

Process:         Safari [45066]

Applications :: Won't Set Up Encrypted File Server

Oct 24, 2010

my roommate and I want to put together a Mac- or Linux-based file server. I have an old iBook lying around, so it can either run Mac OS X 10.3, or some version of Yellow Dog Linux. (I'd prefer to keep it a Mac system.) I can set up our router to push requests on a certain port to that laptop, with a static IP, but we're concerned with file safety. We're going to be keeping all our personal information on there including any code projects, pictures, homework, etc. My roommate attends university, and will be accessing the server from the uni. wireless network. As such, privacy/encryption is a big concern for us. (We don't want people packet sniffing and getting any personal information or data.)

Does anyone have any suggestions for setting up this kind of server? Hopefully it will be a fun project.

Applications :: Accessing Http Sites On Safari And Firefox - Can't Establish Secure Connection?

May 23, 2009

I have been having this problem for a while. It happens every now and then, sometimes more often too. Sometimes at random times, when I try to access https websites in Safari such as Internet banking, signing in into eBay etc, it has an error.

It says "Safari can't open the page because Safari can't establish a secure connection to the server signin.ebay.com.au". To resolve this problem I always have to turn off my Airport and then turn it back on. See screenshot - [URL]

I've also tried opening it in Firefox and it also doesn't work. In Firefox, the error is "Data Transfer Interrupted: The connection to signin.ebay.com.au has terminated unexpectedly. Some data may have been transferred." See screenshot - [URL]

Mac OS X Lion Server :: Web-mail Not Working Since Installing File-maker Server 12?

Apr 18, 2012

Since installing Filemaker Server 12 on our Lion Server 10.7.3, the Webmail is no longer working. I know with previous installations of Filemaker Server I have been asked whether I wanted to keep the system version of PHP or install PHP which comes with Filemaker Server, but I don't recall being prompted about it on this occasion. Previously I had always opted to retain the system PHP.

[code]...

And from the WAN I get just a screen saying webmail is turned off and that I can turn it on by using the Server app on the server (It is already checked in the server app).

Mac OS X Lion Server :: Small Office File Server Options?

May 31, 2012

We are a small business with 2 mac mini's, 2 macbook laptops and another macbook pro laptop who is remote. (the remote laptop is not a deal breaker) We are beginning to have a nightmare with file storage, everyone is saving their own work to their own workstation and it's becoming difficult to share files etc. Basically, our requirements for a solution are:

- Sensible file server, allowing all on-site computers to use the server as a main file storage

- Something I can back all computers up with from time machine

- Useful to restrict certain users to certain files

- Useful to have external access to files when off site and via the likes of iPad etc.

I've looked in a NAS Raid drive and the OsX Lion Server and also the Time capsule and am just so confused at what to buy. Although the calendar sharing options etc. on the server would be useful, we can also do this via icloud. It's mainly the file access that is such a problem.  I wonder whether a time capsule would be good enough as a file server - which we then back up to the cloud to secure the data.

Applications :: "@ Http" Folder / Icon At The Bottom On Desktop

Apr 4, 2010

I am new to this site, and I'm not very computer savvy as this is my first mac. Today I noticed a folder/icon at the bottom of my desktop that had the "@" symbol on it, and the letters "http" below it. My concern is, I don't know how it got there. When I clicked it, it went to a band website I go to. I guess I'm concerned with security and want to know if this is anything I should worry about being as I've never seen that little icon before. ty.

Mac OS X Lion Server :: Server File Sharing Crashes?

Jun 2, 2012

We have a brand new Mac Pro (12 core with 64GB of RAM) running OS X Lion Server in a corporate environment. The server is running only file sharing and software update servers, and we have around 40 users who need to be connected over AFP at all times. This company runs 24/7 and we have an XSan environment using an ATTO Celerity 8GB 4 channel fiber card (84EN) along with a 6 port 10GB Ethernet card. The Ethernet card is configured in a link aggregation bond using ports 1-4. The idea is that clients who do not have fiber cards installed on their machines can still connect to the SAN via Ethernet and this file server. They AFP connect to the share, and of course the share is the SAN. It's a single mount point and everyone has read/write access.

The issue is that this machine keeps crashing (multiple times per day) and I cannot find any reason why. Syslog shows nothing of value and I've called into Apple Enterprise Support who also brought nothing to the table.

We initially had SMB and AFP file sharing activated but as soon as a Windows 7 client connected the machine was brought down. So, I disabled SMB via terminal (sudo serveradmin stop smb) and deactivated it via the Server app for the share point). That at least allows the machine to be up for 4-6 hours before crashing again.

This is seemingly the simplest of setups for file sharing and I would've thought that this beast of a machine would be able to handle being a file server without issue for far more than 40 clients. I'm seeing high CPU usage, which Apple support told me was perfectly normal (around 60% on the kernel_task process and around 55% on the AppleFileServer process). It also seems to consume all 64GB of memory, though it shows 60GB as inactive, but at the same time it's paging in and out.

Virtually all of the clients are running Lion (10.7.4), the server itself is running 10.7.4. There are a few ethernet connected clients running 10.6 along with two running 10.5. As I mentioned I disabled SMB so there are no Windows computers connecting to this machine at this time (though it would be nice to get that functionality back if AFP can be stabilized).

This company simply cannot be down, especially not multiple times per day. The only way to bring things back and running from a crash is to hard boot the machine via the power button as you cannot perform a restart or a shutdown. Once the machine comes back up everything is back to working order for a few more hours until it happens again.

OS X :: Can't Get To HTTP But Can Get To HTTPS

Sep 30, 2009

I have a client who has a MacBook Pro and yesterday the computer wasn't able to get to http sites. Only https. He has VMWare Fusion installed also and even the windows side in IE does the same thing.

The weird thing is he can ping [URL] and it pings (so we know it's not DNS), he can "[URL] 80" and it connects to the webserver and shows the HTML code (so we know it's not something with port 80). We checked the proxies setting in Network and there is nothing checked. Compared all the settings from another MacBook that is working and all settings are the same.

OS X :: Replace Http Icon From Weblocs With Correct Favicon?

Aug 24, 2008

I am enjoying bookmarking my favorite web sites on my iPhone by storing a webloc on the home screen. I am trying to do that on my Mac, and that works well by dragging the web address from Safari on the desktop. However, what I get is a webloc with the correct URL (link works perfect), but always the same HTTP@ icon. Why Safari does not get the favicon automatically as the iPhone is doing? Recoverig the favicon from a web site is easy by just adding favicon.ico after the website address and the favicon is automatically downloaded. But how to replace the HTTP@ icon by the correct one?

Does anyone know of a Safari extension that allows you to define referrers for different URLs? I can't even connect to a local address without an error in the browser.

I have tried this on multiple lion computers with the same outcome.

The error im getting is:

Firefox is the default connection was reset error

And safari dosen't even give an error just a white screen. And external programs don't seem to work. The computer is 100% uptodate.

PowerPC :: Setting Up G4 As File Server?

a) Didn't have a Mac
b) wanted to set up a file server

So, how would this work? What I want it to do is serve music, pictures, movies, and documents throughout my house, and I actually need it to work with a few operating systems:

- Jaguar

- XP
- Vista

Mac Pro :: File Server - 6TB Of Space To Share

May 10, 2010

I am planning on getting the new 2010 MP's whenever they come out, its been a long time coming, and I need a monster desktop for my work so I decided what the hell. Here is the setup I would like to have.
Bay 1: SSD -System Disk (super fast application opening etc.)
Bay 2: Normal 2TB
Bay 3: Normal 2TB
Bay 4: Normal 2TB
Giving me 6TB of file space to share.

My question is two fold:
1. I want most of my space on the drives so its either RAID 0 or 5 for me, is it possible to do a RAID 5 without paying $750 for a RAID controller?
2. Is it possible to move your home folder to the 6TB RAID? I know you can move it to other drives, never seen a RAID discussed though. Not only would this give me access to all my files on the go, but it gives it pretty limitless space versus the SSD.

OS X Server :: How To Disable File Permissions In Mac

Dec 31, 2008

I recently started working for a web design company, we use a Mac G5 Tower with Leopard Server installed. What I need to do is, if at all possible, disable file permissions so that anyone on the network can make changes to a file without having to change the permissions first. Right now, after a file is created the permissions have to be changed to allow everyone else to make changes if needed. Is there a way to disable file permissions in order to avoid this problem altogether? I personally run Linux, as such I am not a Mac guru so any help will most likely need to be in basic terms so I don't get lost.
