Applications :: Can't Seem To Play H.264 Movies Ripped Using Handbrake
Jun 18, 2010
i can't playback any movies i have ripped. Ripped them using the H.264 codec and MP4 format at 100% constant quality. The end result is a .m4v file on my desktop which can't be played using vlc or quicktime. Anyone got any idea what i am doing wrong? - I know it's probably something stupid
I have a wedding dvd (about 3 hours long) which i'd like to share with the family on my Apple TV/Mac (don't have a dvd player) etc... results in a file which cannot be played.
I've ripped using the Regular and also AppleTV presets. Both generate a m4v file (about 10gb file)... but it just won't play in OS X... doesn't work with Preview, iTunes, Quicktime, VLC.. nada...
Searching the forums, I found a post which suggested renaming the m4v to mp4, but this didn't have any effect either.
Is the filesize too big? The icon of the generated file says "MPEG4 M4V, OPEN WITH ITUNES".
At first I thought the file was corrupt, but I have ripped it a few times now, all with the same outcome.
All my media works well (songs, podcasts, new films), but my collection of old films which I ripped, don't seem to produce any sound. I ripped 2 new films, which produce sound so I am confused why the older films will not. Just installed the new iTunes update this morning.
can anyone tell me if you can rip an original dvd using handbrake and then burn to a dvd to play on a dvd player, if so what would be the corrrect way to do this, as i have only used a video ts folder and handbrake does not seem to offer this option. i have tried to convert using mtr 13m and fairmount to dvd2one but the resulting files do not burn in toast or just crashes. I am trying to backup: open season and bee movie
I have hundreds of .avi movies on my computer and play them through vlc. I would like to put them in itunes to organize them but handbraking them would take years, and I have them on an external drive and putting them in itunes would add them to my computer's hd.
I just want to organize all my movies (mp4's, .avi's, etc..) even if it means just seeing a poster of each in a thumbnail instead of just seeing a title with the same .avi icon. I would love to change a thumbnail in finder to a movie poster but I don't think it is possible.
I have seen apps like yFlicks and Movie Jukebox but they don't play .avi's and they aren't what I'm looking for.
I use handbrake to rip movies to TV files (.m4v). Is there a way to reverse this process? Say I don't have the DVD anymore, just the .m4v file, and want it to be able to play in any DVD player. Does anyone know a way to convert the .m4v back into video_ts/audio_ts files?
I've setup an iTunes server on a machine running OS X 10.5.5 but for some reason some of the movies play across the network and some don't. Playing the content locally off that machine works fine but as soon as the network is involved some don't work. And the same is true from all my networked machines and it's the same movies that don't work. About 1/3 to 1/2 don't work.
What happens when I double click the movies that don't work is that the "loading" window comes up and then nothing happens. This doesn't make any sense to me...
I used handbrake to rip a DVD to an external hard drive on my old MacBook running Tiger. Handbrake gave it a .mp4 extension. When I try to play it, either on my old MacBook running Tiger or on my Air running Lion, an error message says that 'QuickTime Player can't open "DVD_VIDEO.mp4 because the movie's file format isn't recognised.' A 'tell me more' button directs to this page [URL] which annoyingly assures me that mp4 format is suported!
Is this something to do with ripping the DVD on an old Tiger compatible version of handbrake...?
I would like to put a whole season of a tv show on my ipod, i used handbrake to rip the 4 DVD's to my hard drive but is there a way to split them so that each episode is a file by it self?
Just purchased the new Springsteen CD/DVD. iTunes won't find artwork for it after I ripped it to iTunes (loaded it into optical media player and automatically went to iTunes) I have tried to have it search for artwork etc., but nothing.
I recently bought a new 15" MacBook Pro and it is my first ever mac. I have to say i love it completely and cant wait to start school in the fall with it.
I have lots of movies on my hard drive and they are .avi and .wmv I downloaded a codec which said I would be able to play both types of files, but I can only play the .wmv ones.
Can i play 3d movies on my macbook pro? I was considering buying a 3d tv which i would like to plug into the macbook pro as a second screen. I have an hd tv as my secondary screen at present with the connection for that purchased from the mac store.
I have a BluRay rip in an MPG format.. Whenever I load it into Handbrake, Handbrake crashes. Is there any other application I can use to convert it to MP4?
I love AirPlay. I use it on my iPod Touch the moment I get home to play music to my speakers connected via AirPort Express. I use it on my iPad too when i'm watching a movie..
Even on my MBP when listening to music from iTunes. But Movies in iTunes don't work. The AirPlay icon in a movie playing in iTunes only shows "computer" and doesn't show any other options.
I have quite a lot of movies that will play off my hard drive and through my MBP. However, most will not play on my iPhone or via my TV even though as far as I can see they're in the same format. Wall-E will play, 27 dresses wont
I just purchased an Apple ATI Radeon 5770 Graphic Card Upgrade and installed on my Mac Pro (Early 2008) system with a 30" Cinema Display. I had no problems installing the card and there appears to be no problems with the graphics except I can no longer view any of the HD movies that I purchased from iTunes over the last few years. I receive an error that my monitor does not support HDCP. All of the ITunes HD movies and TV programs were viewed without problems with the nVidia 8800GT that came with the system was installed. Apple provided no notice that purchasing a graphic card upgrade would also need to replace my 30" Cinema Display to view the HD movies that I had purchased through iTunes. I had planned to purchase a new display later this year.

Some of my movies ordered over iTunes store can not be played while it recognises that it has been played part way through and offers resume. Ordered a new one and it plays but two movies won;t play...Message says the computer assciated with the movie needs to be authorised again. when I authorise it says it is already althorised. one of the movies plays on the iMac but not on the ATV. the other plays on neither.
I'm converting from a PC to a iMac and am having trouble with movies playing that I've transferred. My MPEG movies show on the Mac as File Type "MPEG Movie" and my WMV files show as File Type "Plain Text". When I click either of these on it gives me an error that says the files are not movie files and they cannot be played.
What do I have to do to get these movies to play on the Mac?
I was wondering if such software exist. I have a mac pro in my home office and would like to also plug a second monitor (HD TV) in the living room. Is there a way for me to see what is showing on the TV? I want to use that instead of streaming to my apple TV in the living room which is unable to play 1080p movies. Of course I don't want to mirror both monitors, I would like to be able to look at my emails in the office while my girlfriend watch a movie.
I just recently got my mac. Its been s struggle but I love it! Few problems though. Firstly, how do I put movies from my computer onto a dvd? Make up a dvd that can play in a dvd player. Its a blu ray player, im not sure if that makes a diff, think I just have to check what types of files it plays and change them accordingly. So how do i burn a movie onto a dvd?
Other question, Im having a problem with my wireless internet. My macbook works fine everywhere else and nobody else i live with have any problems. Just my computer in my house. The internets REALLY slow. I rang NTL and they said its your computer, so rang apple and they did some tests and said its your network so I rang NTL again and they gave me a number for netgear, the people who make the router. They were NO help, you can't call them from a mobile phone and I dont have a housephone. Is there anything I can do?
When I try to play some episodes that previously worked (I havent played them for a year or so) they fail to open in Quicktime X (with perian 1.2 installed)
When I open the files in VLC they play as an mp3 would and I can hear tracks from my library that I recognise...
PS: my music and video libraries are on different physical disks and the videos are not in iTunes.
The one i would use is an episode of Robot Chicken, but I have at least 100 episodes doing this thing, although not all of my collection.
I recently got a Macbook pro OS X Lion and for the past few months have had problems with trying to run movies on Quicktime 10.1. My videos files are usually .AVI but when I try to click on it quick time opens and then tells me that it can't read the file. I've search the internet for answer and have tried a lot of different solutions that others have had success on (including updating Perian and trying to convert the .AVI file to .MOV) yet I still have had no such luck.
Info: MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.3), Quicktime 10.1
Don't know why can't play my movies on iTunes or quicktime, because a requierd codec isn't available. I already downloaded several things and also bought QuickTime 7 Pro and Mpeg-2 and still not working. What should I Do?
