it seems like I have a serious problem with my terminal application. Nothing happens when I try to open it. Moreover, the icon has changed (see attached screenshot). Almost looks like I have deleted it...can't remember having done anything like that. Is there any way to fix it or to download the app from somewhere?
View 7 RepliesI have used CandyBar to change the icon for my iDisk. However I have run into some strangeness On the desktop, if I quit and then reconnect to the iDisk it will show the new icon for a moment and then change it back to the default purple drive with the cloud picture. yet, in the finder on the left hand side it shows the new icon. But at the top of the finder window it shows the default icon. WTF?
I have tried changing it in CandyBar several times but this is always the behaviour after the changes
I am at a loss with Google. What I want to know is how do I open a webpage using Terminal? I am doing a lot with Terminal at the moment and was wondering if it is possible. A Ubuntu forums website listed the command as: Insert browser of choice here "URL". I have tried this and I simply get the message: bash: safari: command not found. Am I missing a command before the browser?

View 2 Replies View RelatedAnybody see this before? I opened up Terminal.app and the window is completely blank. There is nothing in it whatsoever. Looks as if bash never started. The title bar simply says "Terminal — login — 80x24". I can type whatever I want in the Terminal window like it's a text document and nothing happens. If I restart the computer, this seems to fix the problem, but it seems to only be a temporary fix as the issue happens again soon after.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI really need your help with this one. I was changing all of my folder icons and for some strange reason the Downloads icon will not change and now wont even appear. Please see attached screenshot.I have done the following to try and fix this problem:
1. Used LiteIcon and Candybar but both weren't able to fix the problem.
2. I went to /system/Library/coresevices/coretypes.bundle/contents/resources and the correct downloads icon does appear. It just wont appear in the Finder Window.
3. I have rebooted, logged in and even did a system cache clear and still nothing.
4. Tried to change it manually with the Command I and copy and paste with changing permissions. Nothing worked.
I used my hotmail email address as my Apple ID. But I am in the process of getting rid of this address as it receives too much mucky spam.Â
I have therefore changed my Apple ID to a new hotmail email address. I did not have any problems for a wk or so, but now when I click on the Mail icon, nothing happens. It is dead. Due to the time lapse, I don't even know if the two are related. Â
I have read that once you use an Apple ID, you can't use the new one for certain things. This is daft. Do I have to revert to my spammy old email address? But why after a wk is Mail acting dead? I have tried to change my Apple ID to my new one for my iCloud email address, which I now want to use for everyday use, but I can't see how I do it.Â
This problem only relates to my MacBook Pro. I can send and receive emails on my iPhone; and I have not even tried to change anything on it.Â
When I get into managing my Apple ID, Apple want to send me emails, but Mail isn't working. Now really fed up. Hackers must be really good, cos I can't get into my own emails!Â

Terminal Split Pane: Why does split pane it merely duplicate what I type in the second pane? Why can I only type within the second pane? Is there a way to change the orientation of the split panes? I'm either missing something or this feature is totally useless/broken.

I've use a terminal command to create a SOCKS proxy through my ssh server (ex. ssh -D 2008 -l user server.here), to which I am then prompted to enter a password, and everything is connected. For the sake of ease of use (as I need to do this frequently), is there any way I can make a dock icon, or something along those lines, so I can just click it, it runs the command, I enter a password (or maybe even not?) and it's all set? I have tried setting up a workflow in automator to run a shell script, but it is unsuccessful, leaving me with "Run Shell Script failed: Pseudo-terminal will not be allocated because stdin is not a terminal."
View 5 Replies View Related I'm trying to change my icons in mac. I've been using Liteicon for this, but since (apparently) you can't change the iTunes icon using it, I tried doing it by going to the applications folder, selecting iTunes, going to "get info" and then dragging the new icon to the top left corner where the iTunes icon is.
Problem is, it won't change. The cursor will change into a cursor with a little green ball with a + in it, but there is no effect. I tried unlocking the lock on the bottom right side of the window, made no difference.
I've googled this and searched this forum for a couple of hours, got nothing.
By the way, I changed the Firefox icon the same exact way, no problem. I'm running as an admin as well.

While messing around with iPhoto and Time Machine, I ended up in the following situation. When trying to open Pictures on the sidebar of Finder, a Terminal shell pops up on the screen. Similarly, if I try to open Pictures on a Time Machine screen, I get the message "Open with Terminal" Now, I don't know how to use Terminal. How can I come back to the anterior situation where I could open Picture jut by a click?

I inadvertently changed the Library name of an FCP X file in the Finder Window and now FCP X won't open. I immediately changed it back to the original name, and FCP X still won't open. The FCP X logo comes up, and then the app seems to freeze and not open.Â

I am trying to do research on how to fix my current problem of not being able to open my terminal window. When attempting to do so I get the following error message:Â

I looked at some previous posts and some people said download iterm2 and put the following command: sudo chsh -s /bin/bash my_username. After this enter password and it should be fixed. However when doing that I get the following response: SC is not in the sudoers file. This incident will be reported.Â
Couple of things, firstly SC (which is me) is the administrator to this computer (this is my computer and there are no other users on it).Â

I can't open my downloads folder. It shows in Finder as a folder. When I click on it, terminal opens. That makes retrieving something from the folder quite tedius.
View 1 Replies View RelatedAll of a sudden when I open Safari, it opens to the full screen and the tool bar on top doesn't show unless i click somewhere around the google search box. Then it appears and I can click on diagonal arrows that shrink it to about a quarter of the size vertically. Then I can click out of it by clicking on the red x on the left hand corner.
