For some reason, whenever I connect with Adium it has my name as "David" even though in my preferences I have it as something else (Trinimini). David was just some random name I picked when I made my email and I don't want my username to be it. However, it seems as though I am constantly having to switch my name to Trinimini whenever I log in, even though my preferences says that my display name is Trinimini. Does anyone know how I can fix this?
Is Adium a good application?... I don't want to have wierd things going around in my computer so I want to know how Adium works for those who have it installed...
I've had no issues with adium every since i downloaded it (5 months long?) but suddenly, i cannot connect to it. I've tried msn messenger and aMsn and neither does those 2 work. The only thing that is working for me now is msn's webmessenger.
A friend of mine recieved her Macbook this morning, and is alrady having some isues with it. She's unable to get a connection with Adium or MSN over her wireless network. In Adium she's tried both an MSN and GoogleTalk account, both of which try and connect for a bit, then give a error that there is no connection. Safari and Skype work flawlessly over the same wireless connection. And when plugged straight in with the ethernet, Adium can connect.
The internet is running through a Zoom ADSL wired moden, to a iMac G4 (running 10.4, I believe) with an Airport wireless card. And the problem isnt specific to her Macbook. Her father's Macbook is also unable to connect to MSN over the wireless network.Since it works wired, it must be something with the wireless. Any ideas on what specifically might be causing the issue? Any ideas on solutions?
Adium keeps getting rid of my custom away messages and putting in the "away" default. I have to become available and put up a custom message every time I want a custom message to stay up. Then after i go idle and come back to my computer Adium has the damn default away message up again. Is there some preference where once you go idle for a certain time it automatically defaults the away message? I know this might be a silly problem but it's very annoying. my custom messages are all saved and appear on the list they just dont stay up after a while.
I can't display my username as I would like.Up to the status(Available, Away, etc) it shows the name I want, but, on the contact list, it keeps showing my e-mail! I've already changed:Adium > Preferences > MSN account > Edit > 'Personal' tab > Display name. (it has the name I want).Adium > Preferences > Personal > Name. (it has the name I want).Adium > Advanced > Messages > Checked 'Custom name format' > Choose user name.What could be wrong?
This has been happening recently. I get an error message from Adium, saying I have been "Signed on at another location". First thing I do is change my password. 2 days later, i get the same message!! I have again changed my password. The strength of the passwords are "strong". My original one was "Strong" in the first place. I honestly hope this is a bug or something, because I don't want a hacker on my hands...I haven't signed on MSN on anyone else's computer recently either.

I have been wondering this for awhile. I know that I can join someone else's group chat in Adium, but I can't seem to figure out how to make one. Is it possible?
I've been using Adium for the past month or so for IM, and as of the past couple of days, no matter what I do, I can not make the contact list visible. I've tried deactivating and reactivating it via the Window menu, I've tried changing the settings on when it's supposed to appear, and I've even tried reinstalling the application once, but nothing is working. Does anybody have an idea how to fix this, or should I just stick with iChat for now?
i have manually set Privacy Level to: All Accounts; Allow only contacts on my contact list. but every now and then, i recieve some kinda spam with a website from some e-mail that even a 6 years old knows it is fake. when then recheck the privacy level. it reverts to: Block certain contacts. any spamming software being naughty?
I'm going to be moving to a new computer soon. Iv got a hackintosh now so I can't just straight up do a full migration. For apps like adium and firefox, how do you transfer all their settings over?
Ive always used FireFox but recently changed to Safari. When Im using Adium and I click a Link some one sends me it is opening in FF, how do I change my "default browser" in Adium to Safari?
Is there a way to remove adium's dock icon? It seems rather repetitive to have it both in the status bar and dock. I know I can remove the status bar icon, but I'm pressed for space on the dock. Any ideas? Thanks!
I have a contact that is present in two separate accounts. However, the contact only shows up in ONE account. This makes me wonder if Adium combines the contact from two accounts. *note* both contacts are in groups in separate accounts. But the weird thing is, I have another contact thats present in both accounts, but he shows up as 2 contacts in adium.
I'm using adium, and its great. But, sometimes when i add a new contact it doesn't seem to send an invitation and neither do i get an invitation when some people add me. I mean everything goes normal when adding a contact. but they never come online, while in real they are.
I added someone the other day, and now every time I log in it says "XXX@hotmail.com on the local list is inside the group "Friends" but not on the server list. Do you want this buddy to be added?" It doesn't say this on IM+ on my iPod Touch, and the contact doesn't show up until I click add. Is there any reason for this? Is there any way I can permanently add them or something?
Is there a solution to sending pictures between iChat and Adium?
I really just use AIM and I don't use it that much, so I just use iChat...but whenever I talk to people who are using Adium and i drag a picture into the window and try to send it, it never ever goes through nor do any messages after that. I have to close the chat window and re-send a message to them before they get anything and the picture never goes.
I've had Adium since I got my first mac (since Windows Messenger doesn't work properly). Lately I've been getting messages from my contacts that I'm spamming them with messages like this: "I just found the coolest site, free and full of the best movies to watch [URL] Why is this happening? I'm pretty sure I don't have virus on my mac, is it something with the Adium/MSN? How do I remove it? A few months ago I also got a lot of friend requests from totally strangers (with really weird email addresses), does it have something to do with this? I never accepted any of them, I blocked all of them.
I use Adium for two reasons: 1. My work clients are scattered across AIM, Yahoo, and MSN, so it's nice to have one application that can communicate with all of them. 2. I like being able to customize the look and feel of the interface
That being said, lately I've become very frustrated because I can't seem to get Adium to play nicely with Leopard's Spaces. I have Adium set (both in Spaces and in Adium) to be visible on all spaces. Yet if a chat is opened, for instance, in Space 3 and mid-chat I decide to switch to Space 4, the chat window doesn't come along for the ride. Likewise, if during a lull in the chat, I switch between several different spaces and lose track of where the chat window was last seen, I can't locate it by hitting F8 and showing all spaces. The chat window doesn't appear on any of them. The only way I can find the chat window is by methodically going to each space until I discover the truant.
I've been using adium for some time now, and suddenly I can't use the contact bubbles buddy list style because it will go through the dock, instead of stopping above it like a window. Anyone knows a solution to this?
