Using Mail, Is there any way to filter or block my Mac (and iPhone) from sending delivery reports or read receipts to senders that imbed this request into their emails that are sent to me?
If not available within Mail or OSX , are there 3rd party filters/pgms available to give me this capability?

I remember seeing something similar back when I had a 6100 Performa, but nothing for OS X? Also if anyone can tell me a mac-compatible scanner like the paperport at a reasonable price it would help tremendously.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm going paperless, scanning old documents, papers, tax returns, the whole works, all into PDFs. What's the best way to store it with Dropbox? I have Paperless which is a Mac App, but I want to sync everything with DropBox so I can use it with both Win and Mac Platforms, which means I can't use paperless. What is the best way to organize my digital collection of PDFs, that can be seen and used across multiple platforms?

I've never had to do a return receipt before. I needed one today and could not find a place on the menu system to allow this.
I also checked down through several layers here and could find nothing on this topic.
I'm using MacMail 2.1 on a Mac OS 10.4.9. Is there a way to get a receipt from an outgoing e-mail to make sure that it has been recieved.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI know a lot of people say never to delete anything from the folder Library/Receipts, but how about: printer brands you don't own/use applications you've deleted also: I have about ten receipts for NeoOffice updates--would it be ok to delete all but the last? and a system package for 10.3.9--i know normally not to touch apple system stuff but if you've been using tiger from day one practically and plan to upgrade to leopard soon is it ok to throw out a panther-related receipt?
i know i need to delete other things (movies basically) because i'm down to a couple gigs of free space on my HD
I restored from backup OS X 10.5.8 Leopard using Time Machine to a brand new drive. After manually migrating some data to the newly restored boot drive I accidentally replaced the /Library/receipts folder with an out dated receipts folder. The problem is there is no way to get the proper receipts folder back so I'm stuck with a receipts folder filled with permissions that are not in sync with the list. I'm assuming this blunder is causing the error: The underlying task reported failure on exit, every time I try to repair permissions. I need this boot drive to be stable and want to avoid installing from DVD the OS from scratch. The drive checks out ok with every test accept repair permissions. The system is running VERY stable now on this brand new WD Caviar Black 1 TB drive. Do you think it's safe to clone this drive even though repair permissions won't work anymore?
View 2 Replies View RelatedThe drive in my G5 tower will read/write commercial or blank CDs and will read/write blank DVDs, however, it will not read most commercial DVDs. When I insert them it tries to read it then after a few seconds it just spits them back out. Occasionally commercial DVDs will read and mount fine, but this seems to be rare.

I just switched from Snow leopard to Lion and i don't like the way that Lion has the mail preview set up as a 3 column vertical format. I thought in Snow Leopard you could change the set-up so it's either horizontal or vertical, but I can't seem to find that option in Lion. I want to have the list of my email messages in the top, horizontal window and the preview of the selected message in a horizontal window below. Am I missing this option to change the view format from vertical to horizontal somewhere?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI know this is lame, but I searched and can't find a solution. When I click on a day in ical it says it is a Read-only calendar. I repaired permissions, but it still says read only. The strange part is, in the Get Info screen, it says Read-Write for all the users.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm buying an external hard drive to use as a backup for my MacBook but also as a network drive that all the computers connected to my router (Airport Extreme) can use. There are two MacBooks and two PCs that connect to the network. I only need my MacBook to be able to write to the hard drive but I need the two PCs to be able to access and use the files on the hard drive. I was going to get a 1TB external and give it two partitions. The first partition is going to be the Time Machine backup for my MacBook and the other will be accessed by all computers on the network. What format will the second partition need to be so that both MacBooks and both PCs can view and use the files? Also what external hard drive would you recommend?

I have a ".iso" installation file and I just can't read it in my Mac (Mac OS X). When I double-click on the file, it doesn't work. The message I get says it's "not recognized". That ".iso" file installs properly in my PC. I searched this forum and learned that normally, ISO files should automatically work with Mac OS X. Well, it's not the case for me! I have a 4 years old Mac book with Mac OS X.

View 2 Replies View RelatedIs there any application to read a forum in the desktop? I mean, outside a browser.
I think that a desktop app could offer some advantages that online read doesn't offer.
For example, you could skip ads or you could save useful threads regarding the forum type.
This kind of app would very useful if it syncs with a iphone one
My hard drive was filling up, so I decided to try and move my music over onto my external. I thought I could do it without reading any guides and I ended up in a royal mess. I now have the folder Music/iTunes/(Album Artwork, iTunes Library, etc) copied over onto my external.
I have completely uninstalled iTunes from my computer, and my internal hard drive has the user/music folder clear.
What is the easiest way to have my iTunes reading my music from my external? I would like to keep playlists and playcounts if possible.
I am on a computer with Mac OSX 10.5.8.
what do all the numbers/graphs mean?
View 2 Replies View RelatedBasically i've had a HD which refused to read some data off it (only about 5 files out of 1Tb files) and I suspect it was only a sector or two that wasn't able to be read. Now is there an app or something that would read the entire disk to make sure it can be read properly? These files arn't backed up as they in relative terms are not important, however if more and more files become unreadable then clearly it's on it's way out.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI own a Macbook Pro and today I realised that it wasn't reading any DVDs. It has read them before in the past but it won't now.
Whenever I put the DVD in it waits for a while making it's regular sounds and after about a minute it ejects it, doesn't even read the disc or anything.
I have an external drive that is still formatted for OSX journaled and I need to read it on my XP system. I used macdrive in the past but the demo expired and it will not let me try it again. Is there any free software out there that will let me do this? I do not want to pay $50 for software I will only use once.
