I had a fairly extensive music collection and recently i had to get a new hard drive. I didn't think it would be a big deal because i had always updated itunes Match. But iTunes match isn't showing me my library to download my music again.
Did i completely misunderstand iTunes Match? Do i have to start over?
All the music properly downloads on my iphone but not my mac.
My hard drive crashed and could not be recovered without spending about $1500. (according to the guys at the local Apple certified store) We had quite a bit of music on it but not enough to justify spending that kind of money. Is there a record of the music we purchased and some way to re-download that music to our new hard drive without re-buying all of it?

Had everything conolsodated on an external drive which crashed. I have it stored on another system so I can easily get a new drive and put it on there. My questions are: I have around 200gbs of music, the extensions or whatnot are on the iMac drive, but the bulk of the music itself was on the crashed drive. I'd like to clean up the huge selection of songs when I copy to the new drive. So say I copy half of it to the new drive...obviously all the extra extensions and whatnot will still be on the iTunes on iMac.
Is there an easy way around this, meaning to get all the extra/old itunes extensions out of iTunes without wiping iTunes completely? Or will I have to manually delete all unwanted extensions and so forth? Also, maybe 100 sings were purchased through the iTunes Store (the rest was from years of CD collecting), those were on the crashed drive as well. I think I can, but want to double check...am I able to redownloaded those directly from the iTunes store? All software and such are up to date running Snow Leopard.

I had selected a whole bunch of music from my iTunes to sync onto my iPhone using my USB cable. Now I've signed up for iTunes Match and none of that music is on my iPhone anymore except by streaming. How do I get those tunes and podcasts back on my iPhone so I can listen to them when streaming is not available (like downstairs in my gym where there's no signal) WHILE ALSO being able to access the other non-sync'd tunes if I want whenever I've got a good signal. I spent some time choosing which tunes to keep on my iPhone and which not to sync.

My itunes says i have 100gb of music, but when I look in Finder it says i have 130gb. I have no movies or TV shows in my itunes. I need to find and delete the extra 30gb as my hard drive is full.

I know that I can use iTunes/File/Add to Library menu item to get iTunes to locate the new Music Library; however, this is going to leave me with two entries for every track, one good and one broken after I remove the old drive. I think I should junk the old library and then have iTunes rebuild it from the Add To command...

This morning I went to find a band I haven't listened to in a while and it was not in the iTunes library. Did a quick search for the folder on the hard-drive and its not there either. The only thing I can think is maybe the upgrade to Lion did something I hadn't expected. But not sure. Has anyone else had this problem? I THINK I might have it stored on an external...but what a pain to find all the possibly missing music.

My hard drive on my iMac died. However, I saved my music on my back-up Seagate Drive. Now my iMac has a nice new drive and a freshly downloaded copy of iTunes. I found the music on the back-up drive. So far, so good. Now, all I gotta do is get the music files from the back-up to iTunes.So:
(a) How do I do that, since my efforts so far have been unsuccessful.
(b) Can I assume all my original lists and albums are kaput and will have to be recreated and reorganized?
(c) When I sync my iPod to the new library, can I assume it will scramble my existing iPod configuration to meet the new lists and album configuration?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have 100gigs of music so I successfully transferred my iTunes media to an external hard drive, and identified this new location within iTunes/Preferences/Advanced/Location. Everything worked great until I had to shut down and start up.
Now, it no longer recognizes the media library. When I try to play a track in iTunes, iTunes says the original file could not be found. It prompts me to locate this one track, which I do, and that one track will play. All of the other tracks have the (!) sign next to them in my iTunes library.
I have double checked the settings in my iTunes preferences, everything appears to be configured as when I first made the successful transfer (identifying the external hard drive as the location).
I've made sure to restart once the external hard drive is connected.
So I checked the threads on here and tried multiple ways and cant figure this out.
I have a MBP, itunes 10.1.1, and a western digital passport essential.
I loaded pictures and my old itunes library off a HP pavilion desktop.
On my Mac, when I try and open my external hard drive off the desktop and click my itunes library file I stored from my old HP it simply wont open. I right click it and click open with itunes and the file icon fades off my screen very quickly like its trying to import it but wont. I have tried dragging it and holding option when opening itunes, which actually does display the playlist but only with explanation points because the files cannot be found.
I just want to be able to plug my external in and listen to my playlist I have stored on the western digital, on my mac book without erasing my current itunes playlist on my MBP.
I did a search for this problem but all the solutions seemed to involve using your iPod or old hard drive to recover. I recently had two tragedies in a short period of time. First, my iPod broke - a tragedy, but one I could get past. The second was the horrible death of my laptop's hard drive. I had some backups of important school and work related files, as well as a few other things like old tax documents, and much of my older files, but I did not have my iTunes folders backed up, because I was under the impression that I could download these songs again through iTunes should the need arise, since I had purchased them in the past.
Now, on my new computer, I have downloaded iTunes, and have been trying to recover my old songs. I authorized this computer, but when I "check for available downloads" it says everything has been downloaded, and that I should try to transfer the songs from the other computer. This is of course, impossible at this point. I can still see my purchases in my history, and if I try to purchase a song I had before, it warns me that this will create a duplicate. Will I have to purchase these songs again? I can see how I should have backed up my music, but I thought that iTunes would allow me to acquire them again.

Everything worked for a while but now when I open itunes it is not able to find all the files. Bizarrely for a lot of albums it can find one or two of the songs but the rest all get the "Unable to locate original music file" error message. The music is all there on the hard drive but I don't want to have to manually locate each one. Does anyone know what is causing this or have a script to locate the rest of the music automatically?

I have two desktop macs, a macbook air, two iPads, and two iPhones. I have one Apple account that I use for all music - including music my college aged kids download. My problem is that I would like to get all the music into one library, delete the duplicates, then have the external drive store all the music. Is there a practical way to do this? This way I can set up my devices so that they all have the same music and playlists.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI swapped out my stock 160GB HDD for a 500GB WD HDD a year ago and put the old HDD into an enclosure. I guess I didn't screw it in tight enough and after jostling around a move or two, I just plugged it in to clear the clicking sound of a crashed drive. I can't even mount it onto my computer, so I pretty sure it's gone. My question is: I was about to take it to Best Buy to put in their electronic recycling bin, when I wondered if whatever data that was on there is secure, and if there's another step I should be taking before disposing of it properly.
