i have my itunes on a PC and have just bought a macbook. i want to transfer the files etc from one to the other. can i copy them onto a passport hard drive and then download them to the macbook?

I'm having the most difficult time transferring projects and events from a 13" MacBook Pro (Late 2011) to an iMac (late 2013) I have moved the projects and referenced events to an external "WD my Passport for Mac" Hard drive. It holds 1TB.Â
In Final Cut Pro X 10.1.1 on the new iMac, the device is not recognized. I tried updating Mavericks and Final Cut. I've tried repairing the permissions, repairing both disk(s) deleting render files, restarting the disk, disconnecting the hard drive, restarting the computer. etc to no avail.
i am using WD Passport external hard drive and my Macbook Pro can not read. way to detect it so that i can extract files from the drive?

Just bought a Retina Imac with Yosemite and now the WD My Passport external hard drive won't work with it anymore.Â
At first it started to copy files, very slowly though, and then would just get stuck despite updating the firmware on the drive.Â
It works fine on my Mac Book Pro running Mavericks so it must have something to do with Yosemite ....
So a couple of days ago it was fine and today it does not show up in finder, or utility diskÂ
I am about to upgrade to Mavericks now
I can't find the data I saved onto a WD Passport for Mac external hard drive. I know there is something on the external drive, but I can't see it when I open up the icon for it. I didn't save it using time machine

I have a 3TB USB 2.0 "media" external hard drive attached to my iMac. I use it to store all itunes media only, since I have over 300 movies. I also have tv shows, music etc. I just got a new 2TB thunderbolt LaCie Big Disk external drive. I want to transfer all stuff in "media" USB hard drive to new thunderbolt drive. Reason for doing this, sometimes current USB "media" drive lags on responding when I come back to use itunes from sleep or inactivity. I'm thinking about just dragging all content from old drive to new drive, eject old drive, name new thunderbolt drive "media", and relaunch itunes. Would that work successfully? I'd like my itunes to remember my play count. If my content play count is lost, does iMatch remembers play count and once I update my iMatch with new thunderbolt drive installed, will my play count be updated to my itunes?

I have just bought my first iMac after my old windows PC blue screened and died this week. I have been using itunes for years an have 2 ipods and an ipad. I managed to extract my old hard drive from the tower unit and have managed to get it working using a caddy. I have transferred my iTunes folder to an external hard drive. I have set up my Mac in the basic manner and now want to transfer my itunes to the new itunes on my new Mac. I have tried using the Setup Assistant but when I plug in the hard drive it is not recognised and nothing happens except the spinning wheel.

My 2011 macbook pro kept overheating and shutting off so I brought it to the Genius Bar at my local Apple store. They said it was not a hardware issue it was a software issue, so they wiped everything clean and instructed me to restore everything when I got home from my Passport for Mac. I did that and my data is there but not many of my Apps. I followed the instructions that they guy gave me but I can't seem to figure this out. Shouldn't the Passport have saved my apps as well?

I recently purchased a new 13 inch MacBook Pro, and would like to put the Western Digital hard drive in the new MacBook Pro. A friend of mine has a brand new Intel Mac Pro. I want to install my G5's hard drive as a second hard drive on his Mac Pro.

so im kinda still new to mac, i bought an Alu. Macbook and im thinking of upgrading the 160 stock harddrive with a 7200.3 seagate soon. I'm just wondering how i can back up everything to the hard drive coz i have no external drive right now. I will buy an enclosure for the 160GB drive if that helps me. Also, i only want to back up the mac portion and i will just do a clean bootcamp setup when i install the new drive.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI recently had to upgrade the graphics card in my Mac Pro, however it won't boot up because the OS isn't update which is what is required. I have a G5 which I have put the MacPro hard drive into so that I could boot it up, update the software and put it back in the MacPro. The G5 recognises the hard drive when it is acting as a 2nd Hard drive to the G5's original but it doesn't show it as a startup option. I have tried having just the MacPro drive in the G5 without the original hardrive but then it doesn't boot at all. Both are running 10.5 and I can't understand it won't find it.
I have tried it the other way around, the G5 hard drive in the MacPro and it works fine and when I put the MacPro hard drive in as second Hard Drive it shows up as an option for startup but doesn't work as it isn't uptodate.
I am looking for an application to help me backup the contents of one smaller external HDD into a folder on another external HDD (both are formatted FAT32, FYI). Why not just drag the contents from one to the other, you ask? Well I tried that. It's a 300 GB transfer, and after about 50 GB's worth it came across a file Finder was having trouble copying for whatever reason. Who knows why - permissions issues is the most likely bet IMO. In any case, hitting that snag caused the entire transfer to abort. In fact, I believe Finder is in the process of deleting the files it transfered already, as the transfer window is hanging and refuses to respond to me clicking the "x" button to cancel it.
So I am basically looking for some software that is more apt at handling large data transfers across drives than Finder. Something that won't abort and freak-out if it hits a snag, but report an error and calmly continue forwards. Freeware preferably, but I'm willing to pay if I have to. I don't think Time Machine is what I'm looking for - I'm not looking to backup my Hard Drive, or even mirror one Hard Drive onto another. I'm just looking to transfer the contents of one Hard Drive to a folder in another. SuperDuper! similar to Time Machine is focused on mirroring the contents of my main Hard Drive over to an external Hard Drive / Disk Image.
I erased and reinstalled my entire system but beforehand I backed-up on a hard drive using time machine. I have FCS 2 academic version and no longer have the discs and want to bring it back on.Instead of migrating all the apps from my hard drive, is there a way to transfer just my FCS applications?

Is it possible to move all programs and setting I have on this hard drive so I don't have to re-install everything? First thought was time machine, but will this work? I mean, if it worked with time machine on a new hard drive it would be very easy to share shareware program with friends. Is it possible somehow?
